If your looking for some light BL with good dialogue and drama, then these two compliment each other. Although both seem shallow from the surface, you soon realise that the characters aren't just some horny stupid boys but are men who have had broke hearts, have lived life with pain, tragedy and love but above all are only human. Both series are light but also serious and can pack a punch. For anyone who and loved, lost or just lived can enjoy this and come to like both series equally.
The romances are very similar. Both are categorized as 'Shounen-Ai' which have very light Boys Love scenes involving high school boys that started as friends. Most of the chapters are just random scenarios and events that the characters go through. Nothing terribly exciting but still entrancing just the same.
Both from the same mangaka; which straight away has similarities in the art and story process/results. Both are heart warming romances which make you blush and smile as the characters fall in love. I personally like 'Senobi no Housoku' better as i love the characters and their personalities. Both are a joy to read and i have read them both many times over.
The only real similarities is how they 'heal' each other. In both mangas one of the characters must be healed from 'something'. One character in each manga has the ability to suck out black substance from their bodies.
The main reason i think these 2 are similar is because of the Neko/Cat's attitude. Both are rude, pushy and a pain towards the other character. They both have that 'Love-Hate' type of relationships as well.
I thought the drama was the main reason these are similar. The build up drama is delivered nicely with conflict, indifference and common high-school-romance problems, that can be some what disheartening at times. This also has wonderful art - as i like both mangakas equally. If you like yaois with some good drama you will enjoy both.
> The ukes are similar where they are only good at one thing - art. They can't cook, clean or look after themselves and rely on the seme to do everything for them. They are also both social outcasts and can only talk/associate with the seme. > Both semes are loyal and like the uke (even though the uke is unaware). The seme's complain about the uke's behaviour but in the end does everything for them. Besides the characters there are no more similarities. 'Breathe' is more light hearted where 'Mottomo' has some dark twists and plot. 'Breathe Without You' is much better in my opinion.
> both are set in historical setting/times.
I find the plots are similar in the areas of drama and tragedy. Both are dark and twisted with sexual abuse, as one of the points. There are light elements of comedy but overall i would say both are very serious. I find both characters very likable and the mangaka knows how to make you love them straight away. The art is soft and light though which lightens the moods. Overall i found Kiki more depressing and enjoyed Silence much more but both are worthy titles.
The pairings are with a rich Seme novelist who is socially awkward and rude - at times - but cares deeply for the Uke, and a tsundere Uke who moves in with the Seme and in time form a relationship. I found the art is similar with exaggerated limbs, facial features and spiky hair. In my opinion i like Pure Romance more as YK was too short and with characters who were not as likeable.
Both these titles are at par with me because both are amazing! They both involve good drama and plot twists that keep you hooked. The pairings are some-what uncomfortable, at first, as the characters develop and open up as the story unravels and by the end i found myself totally in love with all of them. Also, i like how the characters are mysterious until their secrets are revealed peaking the drama and making my heart skip a beat. Plus the romance is tragic but breathtaking. The only differences would be the art (KnT is much more detailed and realitic) and genres (supernatural against slice-of-life).
The plots are complete different - besides sharing genres. ZE is longer and more in-depth about love, relationships, hardships, family issues and jealously. Where KP is lighter and more of a quick-fix vampire themed yaoi. Both have very similar art though. I would recommend ZE over KP personally.
The plots are similar where friends who liked each other while in school didn't insinuate a relationship until years later due to not expressing their true feelings. Everything else about each manga is complete different though.
The art is almost identical. The details towards the backgrounds, the character design and colourings are beautiful. The characters were some what similar as well as they shared quiet natures with disturbed backgrounds that doesn't get explained until later. I personally like 'Only the Flower Knows' better.
I instantly thought of 'Papa★I Love You' after reading 'I'm The Big Brother'. Both are light hearted rom/coms that made me laugh out loud on more than one occasion. The art is detailed yet very 'shoujo' and could almost be called fluffy romantic settings and scenes. Light dramas which both tugged at my heart and made me weep for the characters and their problems only to be overcome with a satisfying ending. The main similarity is the 'incest' romance between the families though.
> Both have groups of 'warriors' with different skills - that being either magical or talent based. > Both have medieval themes in costume design, weapons, architecture, landscapes, etc > Both have a large character platform introducing new characters nearly every chapter. > Both have good fighting scenes and art - where each panel is a pure joy to view and i find myself taking my time with each scene to take it all in. > Both have simple plots constructed to deliver action upon action, heros fighting vilians and victories & defeats. > Both have mild ecchi - big boobies, spray-painted costumes, etc
Both have slow paced romances with a one-sided love developing over time. In my opinion SL is much, much slowly in the romance department and still on-going, where HjN is wrapped up nicely and short. I feel the art and themes of dialogue are similar and at times made me 'awe' over the panels.
> They are both Manhwa's & webtoons. > Style of art is similar with dark tones and shades - brilliant works of art! > Plots are similar in that they are both dark and have detailed dialogue. Makes you think about the feelings of the characters and their purpose. Also it doesn't shy away from death and destruction. Both manhwa's made my heart ache as they deal with some depressing issues.
Both are about relationships between Uncle x Nephew. The art is also similar but the drama is different. Both Uncles however are cold towards the nephew at first because he got dumped on them without a choice. Also 'Ore ni Koi Shite Dousunda' has more humour. If you like one you'll like the other :3
Loveless & Soukai Kessen both are about cute cat-boys. Besides that, no real similarities in plot or themes.
Both are about a boy trying to adjust into a new school/surroundings. Ghost 07 has more drama, tragedy and supernatural themes where Soukai Kessen is about a cat-boy being accepted into the human world. They remind me of each other because of what each character went through when joining the new school: bullying, indifference, etc
In 1/2 Prince the romance centers around guys falling for a girl disgusted as a guy. In 'Love Stage' a guy falls for another guy who was dressed as a girl. Both mangas are really funny and thrive on the comedy. Both have great art ranging from Chibis to very detailed. I found both stories gripping that kept me hooked. Even if you don't normally read Yaoi Love Stage has nice romance and i well worth the time.
Basically i recommend the two because they are both incest yaoi's with good art. 'Not Equal' has more drama and is a little more taboo being father & son where 'OnKSD' is more fan service and a pairing between a uncle & nephew.
Madness is dark/goth theme with fighting, lots of blood spillage, yaoi and some light comedy. Only real difference from Vassalord is no vampires. Also lots of eye candy in Madness, as the main guy never wears a shirt tehee
The plots aren't the same, not even close, but the 'feeling' you get while watching them is the same. Dark drama, sadness, fighting, blood spillage, deaths and fighting to survive in a broken down civilisation with only 'hope' as your guide. Also that both animes have secrets about the world that keep you guessing to the very end.
The only things that i can really compare between these 2 are the illustrations towards the scenes angles/action shots and the fighting scenes. The stories are completely different with a completely different cast of characters BUT between fighting demons with powerful magic and the journey that the lead character must go on...i can see similarities. Both very enjoyable :D |
