I'm still pretty new to the anime world, but I also already know that I absolutely love it. There's so much to love after all :D
If you're in the mood to chat I'm always up for a good anime discussion, whether it's a debate or just a rant.
Speaking of ranting, I have a blog where I write about anime. I'm also new to blogging (but certainly not new to writing) but my blog is slowly growing and I must say I'm proud of it. Check it out ;)

Summer Time.
Been gone a while. Work work and more work. How you been?
|
|
I understand.
I liked it because it dealt with meaningful themes, the tragedies of everyday life. And above all, the atmosphere, the mood, of the anime is top notch. The lack of a plot doesn't quite bother me since I love seeing characters in everyday life and meaningful situations.

I didn't mind the sis, but the new girl in the first episode? Meh. Kinda surprised to find that his troubles in middle school were due to his sis and childhood friend.
It went down to a 4 by the end. But you might like it given I have very picky taste.
Really? Yeah if you aren't into episodic animes then there's not much Mushishi can do to improve itself. The story line drags? I'd argue that it doesn't have a story line at all. It is kinda repetitive, but I love the atmosphere. Very.... solemn.

The lack of parodies definitely killed it. I wonder if they changed the writers from S1. I am pretty sure the quality of source material is the same as before, so the difference is likely due to different script writers.
The layout is completely different. Kurimu's seat was near the door in S1, now it's on the other side. There is no more stage at the back of the room, and lot more attention to detail (i.e., clock, water warmer(?), etc.). The entrance to the school is different too. We do get to see more scenes outside of the meeting room (classrooms, onsen, Kii's parents' house, stores, restaurants), more in line with regular school animes.
The introduction of new characters took time away from the harem four; no wonder Mafuyu feels like a side character now.
I forgot that it is ONA instead of TV, though at this point I am just nitpicking since it (and Ebiten) is practically a TV series, while some "TV" series I have seen are the 4-koma adaptations that are more like ONA than TV.
Right now my 150th is likely Mondaiji, and so far it's 5-ish. Slightly disappointed since I was expecting something like KoreZom. Ah well, it's not easy to find series like Mushishi, my 100th...
Incidentally, how do you like Mushishi so far? It's really, really, really, special, something that continues to grow on me (gave it a 7 at first, now it's a favorite). I plan to rewatch it some time; definitely an anime that I am willing to recommend to anyone old enough to appreciate its great theme and visuals.

Just finished LV2, and I have to completely agree with your review.
No/few parodies, flat characters, much greater emphasis on harem comedy, (new) girls that fall in love with Kii with little/no development. While not as bad as some other harems, it's a shame that the prequel is in every aspect its superior.
The setting/personality changes didn't help either. The girls are more or less the same now, less unique personality and more typical harem fluff. Kii is more and more the butt of jokes and serve essentially as the straight man in comedy. And the adviser is like a different human being from the way she acts.
I got over the new VAs pretty fast (Chizuru lost her sadist tinge though), but the art reminds me of the Manglobe-adapted Hayate seasons. Not necessarily bad, but nonetheless different enough to be noticeable.
Since LV2 is tagged as ONA instead of TV on MAL, my 150th TV will have to be some thing else now. Probably a winter 2013 series, now that the season is over.

I hardly rewatch animes either; only KoreZom and Seitokai so far.
The execution is also good. The concept of friends slacking off after school is done in Haganai (and probably quite a few others I can't remember right now) as well, but no where near as funny or, for lack of better word, meaningful.
Both. I am a computer science major, so I am pretty much your typical geek :)

I rarely rewatch animes, but I wanted something light-hearted that is not completely stupid/disrespectable; it's also a good time to rewatch it and refresh my memory before I start LV2.
After 11 episodes, I still love seitokai. A lot more character depth than what I get from generic harems, and the girls don't jump on him or want to beat him up. In other words, a lot more reasonable. And the parodies, hyperboles, and understatements....
150 is actually not a lot considering the vast majority of animes I watch are ~12 episodes. I only started watching in earnest about a year ago (seen a few animes before that, but not into it like now). Used to go through about 2-3 series a week, but been cutting back lately due to job hunting and class work.
Yeah, I am getting ready to graduate this semester. Still got quite a lot of work left though.

Now that the entire LV2 is up on Crunchyroll, I'll start Seitokai by rewatching S1 before starting the new season. Looks like LV2 will be, quite unexpectedly, the 150th milestone for me. It was either Erin or Fate Zero at first, but with midterm coming up I just want something light-hearted and does not require much thinking.

Same here. There's just so many other things vying for attention that even a week is a long time...
I am definitely feeling more illiterate now that the only things I read are academic material and news.
|
|
I used to read Rosario + Vampire on MangaFox like 5 year ago. Nowadays I am more into anime since they take up less time (and less brain haha) comparatively. Hate having to wait a week or even a month just for one new chapter.
|
|
Manga?
TBH the only mangas I read are whatever VIZ Media puts out as free previews (hence why I have so many 1-chapter drops) and whatever they have in their weekly SJ serials.
I'll add Watashitachi no Shiawase na Jikan to my list though. It is rated really high on MAL.
I don't really wanna be depressed though :(

|
I'll try :) My memory is not as good as I would like it to be.
Humor depends on the viewer. I found Gintama hilarious, but I don't expect everyone else to do the same. There is one downside, that jokes get recycled quite often, especially in a long series like Gintama. IIRC there were quite a few episodes where they just sit around the kotatsu and talk for the whole episode.

Fate/Zero has been on my list for at least 9 months now. I'll get around to it eventually....
I like humor, just not in supposedly serious animes. Humor in rom com/harem is fine and expected. Only anime I've seen so far that handled both comedy and serious plot well is Gintama. Toradora is perhaps another exception, but I am glad it emphasized more on romance and less on comedy.
It's much harder to take the serious parts seriously if the series is filled with comedy. Often the comic acts undercut the impact of serious plot developments.
Well it's just my personal opinion. Near the end it felt rather.....incomplete, lacking in sufficient explanation. Granted, the LN/LN spinoff is still ongoing, but I question the abrupt plot development. The end is not necessarily bad, but it left more questions than answers.

|
LOL it's like me and Angel Beats/Ano Hana/Natsume. Sounds like you really tried to find someone with similar opinions...
Yeah I've read that LoLH is humorous at first then not so much later (not a downer for me since I find it hard to mix comedy and serious plot well in general). Pretty accurate from my experience. I like the fact that it's has a serious atmosphere, unlike a lot of shonen/action/adventure series. The only ding I have is IMO the plot went down hill in the last 3-4 episodes. Other than that it's definitely an above average action series. Would love another season since the LN is still ongoing.

Glad I can be of help :)
Really? I've read mostly good things about the Fate franchise, especially Fate/Zero. I haven't seen it yet, but am kinda looking forward to it.
A lot of talking? Sounds like Durarara. It could go either way for me.
BTW I see that you are watching Densetsu (LoLH). What do you think of it so far?
