I like animes that successfully veer away from the overly used cliched characters and story lines. That being said, I rarely ever give an anime a ranking of a 9 or a 10. Most animes end up falling in the 8 or below range for me.
When it comes to anime genres, I really enjoy action adventure and romantic comedies--even if they happen to possess obvious themes and characters. Usually, when looking for a new anime, I check to make sure there is at least some romance in it even if it is not central to the story. For some reason i am a sucker for romance in animes.
I am also kind of picky. You might notice if you look at my anime list that I have dropped a lot of animes. Many of which are popular. I don't know why, but sometime these shows just bother me.

@Metroid_Ex: I have always been of the impression that mediocre is below average. For me it would be around a 4. I think it's a matter of connotation.

@ gasparov Mediocre means not good yet not bad, so I fail to see whats wrong with saying mediocre and giving it a 5.

It is good policy comment ONLY what we know. If you want to comment at least try to see all episodes. By the way "Sound - Ehh... very laid back and mediocre" and you give a 5, which is very contradictory because 5 means "AVERAGE". If you say it is mediocre, you should give a 3, maybe a 2...but a 5??? It makes no sense.

I appreciated that your review of Aria was clean even though you disliked the series a lot. I always hate when I read a review for a series I like and the person doesn't really have valid claims, they just have silly name calling for it. So, you get some respect for not just trashing it, but coming to terms with the fact that it just isn't your type of series. =]

Although I disagree with your review about Aria, I do like the fact that you bring in the view of the other side.
Like Excelsior said, Aria the Origination is not the first of the series, if you want to do a proper review of it, you should watch the first(Aria the Animation) and the second(Aria the Natural) season first before you comment on the third of the series.
You're probably not a slice of life fan, that's cool, but that's what Aria is all about, I guess if you don't like slice of life, then there's no way you're going to like Aria period. Like I said in the beginning, although I disagree with your views, it is good to hear what the people on the other side has to say, so by all means keep writing the reviews :)

Interesting style of reviewing you have, though I disagree with the majority of what you're saying. Your Aria review read more like one of the Slice of Life genre in general. By all means, keep writing them - they're more fun to read than most.

The reason there's no "story" in Aria is because it's a Slice of Life anime. That's the whole point of it. Maybe you shouldn't do reviews about genres you don't understand.
