The magic lore is correct.

The stuff about the grail wars are entirely new since they have nothing to do with the wars of Fuyuki.

His book only gives mana to his summoning.It doesnt supply him with any mana.

Not really.
It selects people that will represent the 3 families(Rin,Tokiomi,Sakura,Ilya,Kiritsugu,Kariya).Then priority goes to people people that know about it and want to participate or those chosen by Angra Mainyu itself(Kirei,Bazett,Waver,Kayneth,FSN Caster's original Master and others).And at the end, people that can fill in missing seats(Ryuunosuke,Shirou).

Ryuunosuke was a descendant for a line of magi but he didnt know.The book he was using in ep2 was from them.

As for the others only Tokiomi and Kiritsugu wanted the grail.

i see you plan to watch F-zero GP legend, if your a big fan of the F-zero games or want to know more about were captain falcon etc. came from.. i recomend watching the anime !. even tho it is an old anime, its very enjoyable. youll get more knowledge about the racers and their relationships. gaming after watching these series enrich the expirience in a kind of way hahaha
