just an ordinary man, who loves to watch anime.
if you're asking me what kind of genre that i likes, i am gonna said that i love ALL GENRES except Homo Stuff (Shounen-ai, etc) and personally, i love the story which have a deep story with the romance on it, well it doesnt must have romance story on it.
Current Status : "Playing Maji de Watashi ni Koi Shinasai Visual Novel right now, Wuhuuuu!"
Underrated Anime
1. Maji de Watashi koi Shinasai
Many people giving this series such a low score, they arguing because the anime didnt really present the VN, but HELLO? we're talking the anime in here, i have playing the VN too but i still quite enjoy this whole series, yet maybe its not the best but at least it keeps me entertaining until the last episode. If you love a harem anime, then definitely you will love this one!
Its so underrated (for me, atleast), The drama that happen in this anime was suprisingly good. Yet, the drama is so mature. If usually harem focussing on some jokes that something isnt funny or giving some unnecessary fanservices then this one is not something like that. Its more serious yet its quite enjoyable, thats why i giving this series 9.
MYTOP10 ANIME 1. Mushishi 2. Space Brother 3. Usagi Drop 4. Aoi Bungaku Series 5. Maji de Watashi ni Koi Shinasai 6. Steins;Gate 7. Gintama 8. Monogatari Series 9. Papa no Iukoto wo Kikinasai! 10. Amagami SS Plus
HOW I RATE ANIME
10 = This anime is superb, have a flawless story, character, sound, and even though the twist is incredibly amazing, absolutely the anime that gonna makes you said "WOW, Thats was freakin awesome!" Unforgetable anime!
9 = Its actually very good, nor just the story but also the character and the twist on it. This anime is actually will attract you, even you're really dont like the genre. its just near to the perfect anime.
8 = Good anime, the balances of story/plot, character, artwork, ending is really nice. this anime is usually really know how to make good scenes. but sometimes its just forgettable.
7 - 6 = an average anime.but it still has an interesting scenes that makes me keep to watch it.
5 - 0 = a so-so anime. i am not saying this is a bad anime. since for me all anime is good. its juts a perspective matters
*Oh, my rate is based too on how excited i watching anime, like Amagami SS plus, it doesnt have any good twist. but really i enjoyed that anime so much. so i give it 10.
Haha well that's where our opinions differs. The story more than made up for that one annoying character for me.
Papakiki:
Again, presentation matters. Fan service is a part of plenty of animes, but it rarely reinforces the central theme except perhaps comedy. And in something supposed serious, it can comes off as a slap in the face.
Despite the unnecessary fan service, I enjoyed it. The story is a well-setup triumph-from-despair type of story, which I am usually a sucker for.
Natsume:
Yeah, Ginko is alone because he attracts Mushi IIRC. Again, it's more or less uncontrollable as opposed to Natsume's avoidance behavior. I suppose it's natural at first given his past experiences, but you'd think that he'd be more open by S4. He still doesn't fully trust/rely on the two friends who know his secret.
I always like beautiful scenery. I hardly update my profile pic though, and I've had characters before (IIRC Lelouch x C.C., Alice from Pandora Hearts, Yuuko from e.f., and the main cast of KoreZom). I only change my pic when I have the urge to Google for beautiful art/characters from the series I've seen. I wanted an Usagi Drop one but sadly most HD ones are merely screenshots (i.e. compressed 1080P); very few good, high res, clean art.
Just got done with college (well, mostly), so I've got more time now. But I've had really bad luck with winter 2013 so far so I am kinda avoiding anime right now. Definitely not as prolific as I used to be. It's not a good feeling when 2 out of 3 animes I watch bore me to death.
Uchuu Kyoudai is definitely on my PTW list. Holding off on it because I generally avoid watching anything currently airing. I might take up on your offer though and start on it since it's much longer than the usual seasonal anime.
A little of both although so far by the look of things, TTGL has a lot more action than Suisei no Gargantia. Seeing how the latter hasn't finished airing yet though, it's hard to tell if they have the same weight in terms of pure action.
One of my favorite mecha series in terms of action, drama, and the developments involved. The animation is a bit strange but I wouldn't mind it much. The OST is top notch and there's great dialogue usage and humor. Some of the main characters are likeable while others may not be depending on your style. It's definitely something to invest time into watching though imo as when I watched it, I marathoned the entire thing in less than 2 days.
The movies also has some new animation (although it's mainly recap)
Tsuritama:
The alien is bit annoying, but otherwise the character interactions are well done. Better than average, that's for sure. At least it didn't make me go, "I have to watch 6 more episodes of this crap?"
Papakiki is more for male teenagers. Usagi Drop is more aimed toward adults. Usagi Drop handled the story extremely well without resorting to fan service, and the art kinda reminds me of a kid's drawing, which hints that it might have been from Rin's POV. I won't comment on the propriety of the art, but IMO it was pleasingly different from that in typical animes. Papakiki is more shocking/tragic at first and can pull on people's heart in that regard (similar to Kotoura-san), but it lacks some of the more natural interactions present in Usagi Drop and seemed to have swapped them for fan service.
I watched Mushishi before Natsume, so I think Mushishi spoiled me. Mushishi is far more solemn and philosophical in its presentation than Natsume. I never did get the same feeling from Natsume either. I think part of the reason is also that Natsume deals with yokai whereas Mushishi deals with mushi. The yokais are often anthropomorphized, and the "tragedies" aren't tragic in the sense that they originate from chance/coincidence. On the other hand, mushi is very much unhuman/uncontrollable/random, so the tragedies in Mushishi bring out a sense of inevitability/fatalism.
Another big gripe I have with Natsume is Natsume himself. He's portrayed as a lonely kid looking for friends and what not, but he always seem to reject his new friends' efforts to become more than just school buddies. He appears to be the same man at the end of S4 as he was in the beginning of S1, which would be forgivable (no character development in Mushishi, that's for sure) but for all the "he was a lonely kid" stories that made me expect more.
Oh definitely. I ended up dropping KnT because I just couldn't care about any of the characters. Each of us find different characters interesting/relatable.
KtB:
Given that you didn't enjoy Tsuritama, I guess it's no surprise you dropped KtB. I will agree that the characters aren't the most exciting people, but I find them more interesting than, say, the girls in Yuru Yuri. There are some external developments among the five friends, and the romances are somewhat bitter sweet.
Seitokai:
That actually happens a lot in harems, what with tsunderes and all. Seitokai is IMO much more "respectable" towards the MC than many other harems, not the least because teasing is a believable reaction to Sugisaki's flamboyant actions. And those parodies....
Off the top of my head, Usagi Drop vs. Papakiki. To a lesser extent, Mushishi vs. Natsume Yuujinchou. Contents are similar, but portrayals are vastly different.
By hard for you to watch, do you mean logistically or story-wise?
Cuticle:
Well, TBH few animes are Gintama caliber.
Comedy takes many forms, and exaggeration is one of the more common types. I prefer parody and satire, but exaggerations/hyperboles are passable.
KtB:
I see them merely as a group of high school friends hanging out with each other. There's nothing shounen ai about it. There's barely anything hinting at sexual/romantic relationships.
It's probably the atmosphere that you didn't like. It's a lot more, for lack of better word, reserved than harems.
Seitokai:
That's interesting. I ended up dropping GJ-Bu. IIRC the girls in GJ-Bu don't fall in love with the MC either, so I am not sure why you like it more.
Biggest reason why I like Seitokai is that the MC actually has some character depth.
What makes an anime good in my opinion?
I think by far it's character. Good characters are those who I can sympathize with, and better yet, relate to.
Next most important is presentation. Even an average story can become good if it is presented well.
Beyond those two it's more or less purely based on enjoyment. Fan servicy animes, philosophical animes, shounen, shoujo, so long as they are enjoyable I will bite.
I see that you dropped Hanasaku Iroha. Can I ask what you didn't like about it?
And going through your dropped list tags (just ranting/reflecting here):
1. Cuticle Tantei Inaba - cross gender? meh --- The anime is not focused on cross gender at all. It's merely a source of comedy. The anime is, however, average in that respect. Nothing special or memorable, but passable for quick and cheap entertainment.
2. Kimi to Boku. - looks like a shounen ai anime... --- I am not even sure how it looks like a shounen ai anime. If you keep watching it'll become obvious that
the boys aren't homosexual; they have crushes on girls, and a lot of episodes focus around a character(s) trying to confess to his crush.
3. Seitokai no Ichizon - didnt meet my "harem" expectation. --- I am interested in your "harem" expectation. I personally found Seitokai no Ichizon to be one of the better harems, but Seitokai is definitely different from run-of-the-mill harems.
Hey, I noticed that you nominated Bakemonogatari. First off, it's already been spotlighted and rejected (meaning that an admin will post here soon telling you that your nomination is invalid and to nominate it in a resurrection thread instead) but I'm not really here to talk about that. I'm here to discourage you from nominating it for a resurrection as I see absolutely no chance of it succeeding right now and would prefer not to see one of my favourite shows permanently barred from induction into the club as that is what happens when something is rejected twice.
