When you get an impression, that every anime you watch or choose is something that you have seen already and are tired of it, try watching Mermaid Forest. For all those who do not hesitate to watch a kind of older animation art, it might be an interesting experience. If you are fond of romance, mystery and fantasy in anime, you will definitely like it.

Starting with the STORY:
I love ancient legends and especially Japanese ones. Mermaid Forest is first of all an eye catching title and second of all has a great concept. The story circles around immortality, loneliness, love and deception, death. All this is located often in an ancient scenery etc. Each episode tells a different tale linked with the main characters quite long past (500 years) his search for mermaids and humanity.
I believe it wouldn’t be an exaggeration, if I give it a 9.

Moving on to ART and SOUND:
You will begin to wonder, while watching this anime, why is the art so old style, considering the fact that is was made in 2003. Hope, it will not disturb the anime fans, which are already accustomed to modern animation. I’d wish the monsters would look more terrifying – so 7.
Referring to the sound, I enjoyed the opening and ending theme. There is nothing to complain about.

About CHARACTERs in short:
We learn about the main male character from his past memories and situations he has been in and about Mana, his companion, when she steps into his life. With each episode we learn something more about Yuta and get to feel his loneliness quite clearly. There are also other interesting characters that appear in Mermaid Forest, every one of them has his own tragic past – this is also what makes this anime this fantastic, that is why I would give it an 7,5.

ENJOYMENT:
The plot of Mermaid Forest is great and I am satisfied with that. It is good to watch something else and I was looking for something like that.
Overall, as I see, I have given it a 7 and I think it is fair enough.

Positively surprised by the pleasant opening and ending music, I must admit the anime has really charmed me. Right from the start you get drawn into it and sing along :) a… a a a… kamisama…

The plot has it all: beautiful animation, interesting story, spiritual world of youkai, deities, shrines, current world and school life as well as different handsome male characters. Everything is perfectly combined and thus great romance and comedy has been created.

Nanami may call herself super lucky considering her life before meeting Mikage. Now, treated like a goddess (which she became), her familiar cooks, cleans, makes appointments, has great manners, takes care about lots of things and is extremely handsome and powerful – how not to fall in love?

The romance grows with each episode. You can’t wait to see what will happen next. There are a lot of obstacles on the way. We do not get to know or see everything of the characters past, but it is still enough to understand it in the context and wish for more… 
I highly recommend it to all who like to watch romance genre from time to time. read more

It is all about the looks? Is your appearance really all that matters?
This anime brings a serious problem to our attention in a modern way taking a quite complicated school life as an example. Not becoming an outsider or being bullied means being nice to everybody, wearing designer clothes, accessories, make-up, as well as keeping your mouth shut, when someone gets hurt. So much effort to survive in school.

Do I really need to be like everybody else?
It’s difficult to be an individual in this school. Having fake friends is better than having none, you would think. None of us likes to be betrayed, but at the same time you cannot rely on yourself only. Some might prefer not having friends like that, others cannot understand it at all. I can quite correspond to the main character’s choice. Opening up after being hurt is always difficult.

Why did the best looking guy at school choose this particular girl? Why not me, when I sacrificed everything to look that great now?
Expectations. It may be painful, but love at a first sight is possible, which most of the people do not understand. Its above all these things like looks, money or having many friends. It saddens me, that because of a peer pressure at school some of the students fight over boys or girls, just to have sex with her/ him. And having sex with someone popular or handsome at school means I will become popular too.

At some point, many do not understand or will never experience what is like to be loved, so why not try and ruin other people’s luck? Will our first love and relationship overcome all these obstacles? Am I strong enough to cope with all that? I am impatiently waiting for another episode to find out.
