hey, sorry i didn't reply sooner i haven't been that active on MAL the last few months. the blanket twilight (name should probably be changed to 'the twilight blanket') isn't out yet. i am just fortunate enough to have access to the drafts and found it really refreshing to say the least.

as for my writing... utter disappointment. nearly killed myself (and my grades) spending last semester trying to finish a novel... which i never even finished. when i was most active and coincidentally most lucky was when i started writing a year and a half, maybe two years ago winning a few local awards with my poems and later shorts and prose. i have been reviewed and published several times but that's when i started to give up on the idea of wanting to write for a living and writing is solely a hobby for me at this point. furthermore i think i am a better reader than a writer :P.

but back to the main topic of the blankets twilight... (i'll just abbreviate blankets twilight as BT from on)

it's a good read (from what i've seen) and hopefully it'll be published within a few months (from my expectations). the author himself is not even known outside of akihabara i think and for the most part he's a young guy (probably only a few years older than i am)

mm i'll tell you some about the plot and include what's been written on the description potion here at MAL for BT.

so the main character (soicihiro) leaves his home and the remnants of his social identity to wander from mini story to mini story within tokyo. BT is setup in 3 "chapters" or segments so to speak (i've only read the first).the prologue includes the MAL description, and soichiro's first encounters with principle characters relevant to the main plot. the first chapter skips a large period of time where the same soichiro depicted in the prologue has transformed into a very pessimistic, fragile, nerve-wrecked unemployed (he was fired from his salary job) morally flexible, alcoholic that finds himself working odd jobs for an old lady that runs a private courier service. it's not that his jobs are in anyway violent, or excessive, but the types of jobs he services for the lady are in reality collecting debt from poor families and so on. despite this he very helpful to these people to the point of often paying their debt for them himself, and so on. at one point he encounters a girl he had met before which is where the main story of the second chapter emerges. she happens to be in the same business as he is and in his third encounter with her he eventually almost dies to one of her underlings while trying to warn a couple that this woman is sending someone to kill them (they die) leading into the third segment of the BT.

i know my bad description kind of gives the impression of a depressing story but aside from the murder it is actually a very optimistic and fleeting. there are several supernatural elements through beautiful dream sequences which sort of metaphor a certain philosophy depicted through the series of events present in the story.

as far as the second segment goes, it merely continues where the prologue had left off for the most part.

anyway please let me know if you're interested in reading it as i am working on the official webpage for this story.

Sadly, I feel that Blade of the Immortal is going to end up being a mediocre anime. I'm a fan of the manga and I feel that the anime version failed to represent some key elements that made the manga good. I like the music though ^_^

I haven't seen the third episode yet and I hope it can change my impression so far.

Heh, I get that question a lot. The pic is of Dr. Kenzo Tenma from Monster, a great psychological thriller. It's very suspenseful and highly addictive.
I got the pic from here; they have lots of beautiful Monster artwork.

As for Nijigahara Holograph, it's one big mindf*ck. I actually had to read it a few times until I could completely understand it (not sure if I even do yet). I love how it explores the human psyche and the obscure reasoning behind the characters' actions. Don't be turned off by the "terrible events" as they aren't just random violence or anything like that. Don't get me wrong there are violent parts (including a rape scene) but those are just used to portray the desperation of the characters and help you understand their feelings to a greater extent.
Overall, it's a beautiful portrayal of the human psyche and the fragility of our souls.

Anyway, it's only a single volume so you should definitely give it a chance; it seems like something you'd like. If you want a DL link just ask. ;)

Thanks. Gilgamesh has beautiful visuals and it really drew me in. It's pretty intense and somewhat dark. I hope you like it.

Cool. Yeah I think Ebert has a pretty good understanding of anime for someone who doesn't watch much of it.

I have, but to be honest, I had no idea Avatar aired on television until after it finished! Oh by the way, Looking at your list, it looks like you enjoyed Mushishi. Judging from your other reviews--all those prawns--you are a strict grader, so I have a hunch Musishi is god-like.

skyaero | 08-05-08, 2:54 PM
Hi, thanks for the comment on my profile earlier ^_^
It's nice to see someone who appreciates Mushishi and H&C as well =)

dabazzinator | 08-05-08, 2:42 PM
Oh well I'm sure you'll like most on my list. I try to watch anime with a stronger sense of direction rather than the pointless and idiotic ones. As for Avatar, I don't really consider it an anime. And you are right, it isn't one, but I have it on my list for others to see when they browse my profile. Its one of those shows where I absolutely love to discuss with others, so I'm hoping many will see that and discuss about it with me.

I don't want it to die either, but if anime dies from lack of creativity then maybe it needs to die so it can be reborn even better!

Well, Nausicaa invented fantasy animes basically, and inspired many plots in other animes and games. It's very inspirational, because most animes before it were just super robots. It also helped popularize the process of created animes off of manga.

Astroboy is the first anime to become a major success, and many animes have been inspired by its themes. It's the first anime with a robot character, even before Gigantor. Most sci-fi animes borrow the themes from this show, as well as some of the directional styles. It invented the super robot genre.

By the way, I just wrote a new blog entry, so that's there if you want to read it :)

RangFlash | 08-04-08, 5:38 PM
Thanks! I'm glad that someone else supports what I believe about anime. I do think anime is dying, but just slightly, and slowly. I don't like the fact, I just think it's true.

The industry needs to innovate, just as Miyazaki did in 1984 with Nausicaa, and Tezuka did in 1960's with Astroboy.
