About maarika
O HAI THAR! :D
I usually watch anime when I should be doing something else. Although I mostly follow recommendations, sometimes I pick random series and sometimes I also marathon random series. Which is particularly bad when I should be doing something else. Oh, and sometimes I watch certain series because I love the music. This usually involves Kajiura Yuki and KOTOKO (I'm a fangirl, if you couldn't tell).

What I normally DON'T watch are series with over 50 episodes. Hundreds of episodes of a single series is a bit too much for me. Of course, I might make some exceptions every now and then.

Anyway, my top 5 list is pretty consistent and I don't see it changing very easily. Utena is and will most likely remain the best thing I've ever seen. The follows-up are all lovely series too. :] But like I said, I'd watch nearly anything.

Oh, and the ratings in my list are not very objective any more even by my own standards. The more series I watch, the more I should re-evaluate the stuff I had seen before but truth be told, I'm too lazy to do that.

Also: please don't add me randomly, unless I know you of course.

While it lags at the end Kaiba still manages to be overall great. And it clearly is very different from anything else out there.

Not much is known about Ikuhara's new project: http://myanimelist.net/anime/5498/Nokemono_to_Hanayome
Some info here: http://www.iwanihana.info/2008/11/post.html

The manga looks very stylish and apparently it keeps up with Ikuhara's taste for the strangely beautiful. I can hardly wait to see how it turns out.

*waves* I just finished Kaiba. The first half was absolutely amazing, from the visuals to the thought provoking questions it raised but I was a bit disappointed about the second half. Once the whole thing with Neiro kicks in I began to lose interest. And the ending was rather random. My favorite episode was the one about Chroniko. I felt genuinely sorry for the poor girl and the music score made it all the more emotional.

By the way, excited about Ikuhara's new project? It's about time, I say!

Hehe, teenage angst is good in small doses... XD I find that a lot of yuri titles have heaps of teenage angst and melodrama (like, for example: "Why isn't she speaking to me today? Does she hate me? Oh, no, what do I do?! *cries*" etc, or variations of the above...), and, while it's good for a bit, it can get a bit nauseating after 10+ stories of the same thing... Maybe 'cause I'm so old, it doesn't gel with me so well? ;)

In my opinion, the manga to "Love my life" is better, story wise. It just seemed a bit more "real" to me. Art wise, it's quite simple.
It's been a while since I read it, but I do remember that there were some things I thought were better done in the manga compared to the movie. I'll have to re-read it again...XD Just in case: If you have an LJ account, the scanlations of it can be found at the "daily_yuri" community there...:)

"Kino's journey" sounds good :) Been meaning to watch it for a while actually, but, oddly, haven't added it to my list yet... Hmm. *adds to list* Thanks for reminding me :D

I agree. It doesn't rely too much on fanservice and it has gorgeous art. I also think it's because the characters are 'adults'. No teenage angst, no melodrama...XD Everyone knows what they're feeling, and what to expect from their 'harem' roles... And, from what I've read, the company isn't taking out a physical print of the second volume, but might publish it online... So, no plans to publish volume 2 in the future, sadly... :(

Do you read the Okazu blog? ( http://okazu.blogspot.com/ ) There's a heap of recommendations for yuri titles there. :)

Also, I recommend reading "Love my life" - http://myanimelist.net/manga/3191/Love_My_Life - if you want to read some of the better yuri titles out there. I found it a really simple, but also quite realistic story... They also made a live action movie out of it, which I got to see on a LGBT film festival here. Very cute indeed :3

I see that you're reading Iono-sama fanatics...:D

I wouldn't mind being part of Iono-sama's harem... but I don't know how I could cope with being one of hundreds... ;P

So, yeah, I really like it. :) Pity they only published volume 1 in english... :(

Olen nõus. Seda oli lihtsalt hea vaadata.
Ahaha, see tabel on geniaalne! Mulle meeldivad eriti Rodoreamoni selgitused. xD
Aaeru ei tundu üldse väga tüütu. Ainult natukene. Neviril tundus poole tüütum (miks see nii naljakas on, et Neviril=Neville?).

Ashrie | 10-25-08, 11:07 PM
There's a NieA_7 manga too? *adds to list* XD

I'd send you a PM with my email, since, I'm like you. I hate spam...>.<

Ashrie | 10-24-08, 12:48 AM
It is... I've seen samples from his "Pen Drawings" collection, and it's just so darn good... ;_;
I think good things always run out so fast because a lot of people appreciate them and have bigger wallets than oneself? ;)

I do have other Haibane Renmei merchandise - a Rakka statue and the Image Album CD, but it wouldn't hold much of a flame up against a proper original copy of the doujinshi.

NieA_7 sounds good, but it's been years since I've seen a copy of the boxset here in Australian stores (this was before I was into Yoshitoshi ABE's stories...), and I thought it sounded interesting then, but never thought more of it. I regret not buying it now...:(

And I wouldn't mind reading that doujinshi you mentioned. :D At least I know 2 of 3 of the stories, and Google is always good for finding out more info for NieA_7... ;)

Ashrie | 10-23-08, 5:03 AM
Thanks so much for that link! The doujinshi is so gorgeous :D And the site has the best wallpapers for Haibane that I've seen - I mean, iBane? That is now my new wallpaper! XD

I would love to own the original doujinshi. Someday, I'll be able to justify spending that much money on something I love so much... lol

I also find Lain even less confusing this time around, even if I was quite lucid (at 2am! lol)and seemed to pick up on the weirder things the first time I watched it. I am appreciating it a bit more the second time around.

Another Yoshitoshi ABe series I want to see is Niea under 7. Sadly though, it's even rarer to find the boxset of that one these days... ;_;

Ashrie | 10-22-08, 4:26 PM
Hey there :)

I kinda did marathon Lain... but only because of time constraints. Watching it at 2am did mean that it left me with a headache at times lol. It helped that I watched a couple of episodes of Mahoromatic after a couple of Lain ones... Completely on the opposite end of the spectrum. XD

I'm rewatching it again though. It is dark, but it's less dark the second time around I think. :)

I've added you to my friends list too. :D I mean, 71.5% compatibility? That's pretty high... I think 13 is pretty lucky myself ;)

Also, have you ever read the original Haibane Renmei doujinshi? It's now my aim to find it and read it :)

Nocturnal | 10-22-08, 12:38 PM
I am loving Kaiba already and I'm still at episode two. It does not even look like anime, the visual aspect is clearly very different from what one usually sees. I am planning to marathon it and I'll be sure to share my opinions with you.

hybridcritter | 10-21-08, 9:04 AM
Ahaha, sädelus on ainus tõend? Aga rohelised juuksed ja värvitud huuled? xD
Nojah, see läheb juba liiale.
Võib-olla see polnud tähtis, kuju Neviril ja Aaeru jõudsid ,vaid et nad tegid Emerald Ri-Majoni koos ära ja said igavesti tüdrukuteks jääda?

hybridcritter | 10-19-08, 8:12 AM

hybridcritter | 10-17-08, 12:19 PM
Hahaa, tee seda!
