Hey,

During my childhood, I would sporadically watch Voltron and other various cartoons when the cable channels would do preview weekends. They must have left some kind of impression in the back of my mind because I later found myself catching random episodes of shows like Gundam Wing, Outlaw Star and Dragonball Z during their Cartoon Network runs. By this point, I had become aware of the concept of "anime," but nothing had yet totally captivated me. That show I would later find in Cowboy Bebop and I often would my find myself in a duel against Hypnos (I usually lost) trying to watch it during it's Adult Swim premiere. Finally, once I discovered an interest in foreign films (a significant chunk being Asian) that I began to actively seek out anime and it just kind of spiraled from that point.

As for manga, well, after being crushed by the ending of Berserk, I had to read the rest of the story. This was my first manga title and continues to be a huge favorite of mine, although I have not progressed much past the point the anime ends sadly.

I'm not a huge fan of numericized grading systems (but I'm also too lazy to jot my thoughts down which presents a bit of a conundrum) so take my scores with a grain of salt. I tend to rate shows by the impression they've left on me. What I look for in a show foremost is interesting characters and a sense of style. If a show manages to excel in those two aspects, chances are I'll enjoy it. I also readily admit to having a strong predilection for the mecha/sci-fi genres as well as the "artsy fartsies."

Sub/Dub: For live-action foreign language films, always subtitled in the original audio as its part of the actor’s performance. Animation, however, is unique that no matter the language, it will always be dubbed. If the English dub is well done, I usually prefer watching it the language I’m familiar with. My ratio of anime watching is probably about 60% Japanese / 40% English.
