thank god im not the only one think death note in that way
from your review,
"Finally, as long as you don’t go in expecting an analysis to complicated, ideological questions or complex characters, you will likely be pleased with what Death Note delivers"

damn, i love that sentence, i just think like that, but makes me wonder why many people give a 10/10

Merry Christmas!

I have been collecting episodes of Tari Tari, Utakoi and Natsuyuki Rendezvous. I am collecting ongoing series Eureka 7 AO and Space Brothers. That's about it. Oh, I am also collecting the very good Yawara! I watched 40 episodes a few years ago and hoped someone would do the rest (124 episodes) and Live-eviL is doing it with another sub group. Live-eviL assisted AnimeGo with the work on their release of the first 40 episodes.

I haven't really looked into the new season yet, I have been waiting for ANN to give an outlook (about all I do with them anymore). I think Blood C: The Last Dark is one movie, plus the Hanasaku Iroha movie. As far as series go, I have no idea right now what is coming up. I think the new Macross series is supposed to start either Fall or Winter. And, I am hoping for season 2 of Panty and Stocking!!! That is so rude and funny!!!

My PTW list is also daunting especially when you realize that every one of those titles in on one of my hard drives. But, as you said, it's a nice reference point. I know, based on my tastes and moods, I will drop probably 1/4 of them before the end of episode 3. But, the rest will be completed. I have some rather large titles there to watch. But, being retired, I have much time to watch as I don't watch much TV except for baseball and college football.

What is your favorite genre in anime? I lean towards Slice-of-Life, Josei, Romance and good Psychological stories. I find the best work there. If I need a laugh, there are plenty of Harem/Fan-service, etc. on my list to fill the bill.

I ended up giving DN a 5, and that was being generous. If it had ended at the death of L, I might have given it a 7, but those last 12 episodes were horrible.

I just read thru your Profile, very interesting. You know, that the rating system is all arbitrary because everyone rates subjectively. So, your comment is right in line with my belief. And, 322 PTW items is not excessive. I have completed over 700 titles and my PTW list is still near 400 titles. LOL

I've completed 28/37 episodes of Death Note and at this point, I have to totally agree with your review of it. I fail to see why so many people see this as a masterpiece when it has major flaws. I recently completed Monster and that one clearly is far better and deserving of a masterpiece rating. Thanks for your review.

I thought your review for Death Note was legit, but I was wondering if you could elaborate on the whole not expanding on the morality of killing for the greater good.
you can say that death note did not expand on the morality of killing for the greater good, but I think when an anime is a set length, only a handful of ideas can really be explored with a substantial amount of depth and juiciness. I feel that if there were something like Light actually questioning his own actions, we would have a character not as secure as previously characterized, and therefore a completely different anime. Hypothetically, how would YOU execute an elaboration of such a topic?

The Signature Line has taken over it, yeah. There were some great titles like Even a Monkey Can Draw Manga and Bakune Young -- material you don't even see published nowadays.

Your welcome. I read your review of Dead Leaves as well, that was good also. Hopefully it'll be sooner rather than later
Bonham Jun 23, 2010 2:58 PM
Lot of great stuff there.

The lack of availability is disappointing, tho. Have you checked out much in terms of older publications? Like with Viz's Pulp and Editor's choice lines?
Bonham Jun 21, 2010 2:00 PM
What are all of the titles that you checked out because of that thread?
Masserati_ Jun 18, 2010 2:42 PM
Your review of Death Note is awesome, have you written any others? I wouldn't mind reading them

The problem with Ippo is it lacks Shippo
MetalChiron Jan 2, 2009 9:29 AM
They don't have to keep to the manga that much, just enough to finish the end of it with an anime series or some movies even. If it took them 10 years to finish Tenchi Muyo Ryo-Ohki, they can do it with Berserk and even Kenshin!
MetalChiron Dec 23, 2008 9:49 PM
I want a second part, since that looks like it could be better than the first. More brutal fights, more fountains of blood and even a good story to go with it. But yeah, I don't like endings that are left unfinished.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
