About kiriska

Note; I'd really prefer if people at least say 'hi' and talk to me before randomly friending me. It kind of creeps me out when people seem to friend me out of no where. :3

I'll probably write some more relevant information here eventually, but for now, I'm just some random weeaboo who likes writing reviews that are probably unnecessarily long. In fact, I like writing so damn much that I had to set this thing up:

The blog contains my random musings about the anime/manga industry, j-music, stuff about comics and movies, and reviews of live-action anime adaptations that sadly do not appear on MAL. :3

Just wanted to stop by and applaud you for your great reviews on both Gundam Seed and Seed Destiny. You pretty much have the same views as I do about both series.

I, too, agree that it was very clever how Sunrise left it so ambiguous, allowing people to take from it what they will. I like that in a conclusion.

And, yeah. We can see early on how much of a fail Clovis's experimentation of Codes and Geass was; so I'm not expecting any progress soon. Heh.

Oh, and looking forward to the review.

A very interesting post. I liked a lot of the fine details you brought up; I too was disturbed by the lack of the use of the Anti-Geass in the storyline, but I personally believe that's the biggest flaw in the story and, in the big picture, it isn't that big a flaw. I've seen worse in anime TV series that span this many episodes.

I still have to say though, I personally prefer Lelouch being alive. I understand and respect that you dissent to that particular opinion (hey, if you enjoyed the series and that's what you got out of it, who am I to spoil your happiness?) but I believe there is more substance to the story for me with him having been able to receive a second chance.

I'm not going to get into it a tremendous amount here, but in the next few days I plan to post up my hopefully now only a draft of a post to my blog and it will cover all of this and Geass with the big picture. I've rewatched most of CG lately, and after finishing off CGR2, I've decided to write a small series of posts analyzing Geass through a literary lens by first looking at the philosopy employed, then the symbolism, and finally the journey as a whole. This is both a way for me to get my thoughts down as well as to present a reason for why most people who believe Geass to merely be a trainwreck of disastrous missed potential might be a little blind with that assertion and that there is still a great deal that can be brought out of Geass.

I'll drop off a comment when the first part (about the philosophy) is completed. :)

Oh, and one final question. If Suzero/Suzaku lives to be 100 or so, would his LIVE-HAX Geass just start going off every time he breathes? >_>

So. You've finished it, I see. I could go on about that episode (I sent my friend a ~1500-word e-mail as soon as I finished it, solely about that episode), but I'll summarize my main thoughts below.

So, the first time around, I felt very letdown. It seemed like a great deal of plotlines were left achingly open and unresolved, giving the show a very shallow feeling. Then I realized I misinterpreted a few things, and when I watched Eclipse (I watched Nightspeed first), a lot of that was made more clear with the second viewing.

That doesn't necessarily mean there were left-open plotlines. There were. But the main ones, the fundamental ones, of the show were all amazingly well resolved and closed shut with a huge amount of symbolism and power.

Let me explain. Earlier I thought it was a copout like I mentioned above. I thought that the ending was a bit predictable - it felt like the most mind-numbingly ironic way to end off an antihero like Lelouch and that it was the least original way to do so. However, I soon came to realize that there was a twist to all of that. A huge one, mind you. Lelouch isn't actually dead.

I'm not sure if you noticed that or not, but there's a great deal of symbolism and petite little details in this episode that actually goes back to some of the earlier episodes and cements that very fact. It's explained in fine detail in this blog post: http://animeotaku.animeblogger.net/2008/09/code-geass-r2-25-so-is-lelouch-dead-or-not/ (I don't like the last P.P.P.S., though; it'd have taken away the whole significance of Lelouch's redemption if he'd known he wouldn't have died; he also wouldn't have acted the way he did if he believed he would live).

So, C.C. got her wish, and her warlock. Lelouch remains, eternally, alongside ultimately his sole companion and confidante, and both of them essentially become the world's caretakers and guardians. Appropriate, mm?

The entire "death" scene was cosmic and amazingly well directed. The music, the right camera angels, the flashbacks, the emotions. The way Nunally lay over Lelouch's body and wept over his death and his sacrifice; now fully understanding what his intentions always were. The way he was killed by his own masked alter-ego, Zero (and Suzero, too, is so full circle). The way Geass was correlated with the mundane but not entirely insignificant concept of "wishes." Everything was well-pieced and fraught with symbolism.

Looking back, the title of the show seems so right now. Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion. The Lelouch who comes to possess both a Code and a Geass.

On a side note, why wasn't there a new OP? I for one would have loved to have seen some sort of techno remix of "All Hail Britannia!!!". >_>

So, what'd you think?

Hey there ^^ I just finished watching Howl's Moving Castle and I wanted to say that I absolutely agree with your review. I liked the movie, but it kept me wanting to see more character development, more profound dialogues and a better explanation for some of its events. Now I'm going to watch Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away, I hope they're better. Anyway, nice review.

XD. And an interesting theory find on the "DESTROY EVER KTHX" Lelouch from Episode 22: http://forums.narutofan.com/showpost.php?p=18601838&postcount=1

Eh, I don't feel any sort of "regretful" vibe coming off of C.C., myself. [Shrug] Heh. Three episodes to go, indeed.

Yes, I know exactly what you mean. That's why I'm hoping that this sort of turn around gets explained. Wasn't his first and foremost purpose to change the world to one that fits Nunnally's description? I don't see how destroying and recreating will lead to that at all.

C.C.'s lack of dialogue sort of irritated me. She seemed like she had a lot of good things to say (and here I thought she went downhill with her attitude - it doesn't seem that way, thankfully) but was cut off. >_> And the Kallen kiss made me both feel amused and confused. It was definitely fanservice, and KallenXLelouch is definitely not happening, but why did he ask for her to come with him on that little side-walk in the first place if he was just going to sit there and act like a mime?

And, Nunnally being alive makes my head hurt.

Well, one thing is for certain. Flying fortresses in anime usually spell one thing: that flying fortress falling.

Not quite sure how to feel about that episode (22 R2). Felt very rushed; I guess we'll have to wait and see how they explain all of this. Also, I still can't get my head around the idea of FLEIA/Freya being a "transportation" device rather than a weapon (the only logical explanation)... wouldn't Nina have realized this as its creator?

I flail hardcore.

And have a feeling this series may end badly. D:

All true and interesting points for sure, there, that you and your brother had discussed. Regarding the month, all I can think of is the possiblity of Lelouch preparing for his risky entrance as Emperor, possibly setting up "traps" or plan Bs. He's the infamous chess strategist, of course. [Shrug] We'll see.

But, yeah. The BKs are definitely in a very delicate position right now.

Yup. Heh. A lot of great, classic, stuff from 21 for sure. :D

I also found the growth of Lelouch's Geass to his second eye also interesting, too. Was it, I'm curious to know, triggered by his labeling of his Geass as a "wish" for the first time, or his comprehension of what he exactly has to do, finally? Is that what allowed him to Geass the entire chamber at once in Pendragon?

And, yes, this episode was handled well, albeit somewhat fast-paced. Jupiter-Geassing was pretty badass, too. :P

And regarding the differences between Suzaku / Lelouch... well... they said it themselves. Only results matter now. And they did have a month, too, to reconcile. With all the time they had, Lelouch would probably have mentioned the truth behind Euphy's death, etc.

Oh. And Sneezel's weapon is, I'm certain, the "Damocles" he mentioned back in Episode 15 (I think?). If you look up Damocles, you'd find out it's a reference to the legend of the "Sword of Damocles" (funny that one of the future episodes is called the "Sky of Damocles") where a man is thrust into royalty but decides to reject it after realizing that wherever he went there was a sword above his head hanging on a single hair ready to strike him down. I also think that the "Mask of Schneizel" might also refer to his donning Zero's mask. Wouldn't that be very interesting?

So, based on the preview, it looks like Kallen will finally talk to Lelouch next episode. She'll probably defect over to him. We've yet to see Jeremiah since 20, so dunno what's going on with him. Neither did we see Anya after the month passed.

[Shrug] But, yeah. So far the most entertaining episode this season.

PS. All Hail Lelouch.

~Alexius
