Rating scale: I like to use the full extent of the scale, so the majority of the anime I watch will place in the 5-7 range. The only reason they don't go lower is I won't start series I don't think I'll enjoy. If the MAL scale included decimal rating, many titles would be given partial scores, so an 8.7=9=9.7 on my list. There's a wide range.
10 (9.7-10): Masterpiece. Perfect in every way, shape, and form, or comes together as the perfect package.
9 (8.7-9.7): Excellent. This show deserves a chance by pretty much anyone. Far from flawless, but comes together in an artful and thoroughly enjoyable package.
8 (7.7-8.7): Very Good. These shows may serve "niche" roles as titles, but fail to have a widespread appeal. However, many of these titles are great and well worth their watch time.
7 (7.0-7.7): Good. Though this rating may seem bad, the show is still good. It just means it failed to charm or impact me as much as other titles. The lower range is due to my belief that many anime should be placed in this score bracket-- they are not outstanding, but still enjoyable. Even more "niche" anime, that don't fare as well should go here.
6 (6.0-7.0): Fair. These had one of two things happen. One, they just failed to impress me, but I still gave them a shot, or two, they started out great and took a nose dive.
5 (5.0-6.0): Average. Nothing else to say about that.
4-1: Probably dropped before finishing, but had some characteristic that was executed badly. As in, they deliberately went in a direction I didn't like (Heavy fanservice, hateable-not bad- plot or characters, just dragging on for too long). Most likely don't touch it with a ten-foot pole.
