Both of them are complete shows from start to finish, so you don't have to watch one in order to understand the other. I would suggest watching the original adaptation first, but only because the production quality is much higher in Brotherhood so watching that first may cause some aesthetic bias - but maybe that's just me.

Both actually. People always say you can't quantify enjoyment, but you can quantify the aspects about a show that you enjoyed - animation quality, storyline, plot, characters, design, choregraphy, etc.

LOL - it all comes down to perspective. The two of us are very different in our beliefs, perceptions and opinions, so it's only natural that we would score things differently. At the very least we both agree that Ano Hana is a show worth watching.
To be perfectly honest, I don't really like using scores as a number can never truly reflect how I feel about a particular title. The number is only there so people can have a vague idea that I either liked it or didn't.

Ano Hana received an 8 because there were too many occasions where it was easy to see what was going to happen, and the ending was a bit too melodramatic and sacharine-sweet for its own good.
Those factors don't make it a bad show though, and the generally thoughtful plot asked some very intriguing questions of the viewer.
