Geeze, I procrastinated on replying... sorry... yet again....
I keep meaning to make an LJ post on things, so maybe this weekend I will. I'm pretty sick of my job, mostly how there is no thought involved anywhere. And I hold my boss in contempt for intellectual and ethical reasons. And I hate working second shift. Et cetera. But I'm sure you can relate to most of that....
You're... not a Tezuka enthusiast? I suppose that makes sense, knowing you, but I guess I had forgotten just how far you tend to go just to familiarize yourself with a fandom. It is impressive, albeit insane.
I can only imagine Trapeze without subtitles... but I'm perfectly happy with it in its subbed glory. Definitely enjoying it.
I really need to finish watching Monster... I don't imagine it's possible to give it a completely satisfying ending, as you said, but I do wonder how they manage to wrap it up.

Hey Jess!
About Akira, I actually kind of do want to re-watch it. I think I may be at the point now that I really could see it simply for what it is, not for what its fans would like it to be. I think that if I did re-watch it I would probably do the same score change... 5 to a 6. (Quite possibly the same with Evangelion.) I think I will always hate the characters... I don't find a single one of them impressive in either a good or a bad way... but emphasis on character is part of my personal taste, so I must try to put it aside.
I have actually heard of something that might interest you recently... a series called Kaiba. Before, I'd only heard that it was unique, but I had a discussion with a Tezuka enthusiast a couple weeks back who mentioned that it paid quite a bit of homage to the God of Manga, particularly in how the themes and style of manga and anime today compare and contrast with what they were early on.
Don't know much more about it than that, unfortunately, but it sounds interesting.
Also, Trapeze/Kuchu Buranko is kind of amazing. I have absolutely no idea what score to give it, but it's a nice break from normal anime.
And I just remembered another anime wonder I started fairly recently... Legend of the Galactic Heroes. As I'm sure I've mentioned, I usually hate 80s anime, but this one is genuinely interesting. I hear it keeps on getting better, but I'm already quite impressed. It's hard to explain exactly why... the story is nothing terribly special, nor are the characters, really. It's animated just as you would expect a late 80s/early 90s anime to be, and it's not like there's a Star Wars-class fascinating technological and historical background. But there's something really intriguing about the way the anime is treated... instead of another series on war and warfare, it's almost like a philosophical look at it. It's not about brilliant tactics and charismatic leaders but rather focuses on the attitudes, origins, cultural impact, personal impact, and reasoning of war. I can't describe it in a way that does it justice, but I'm really taken by it. The series is continuous and chronological, but each episode has the satisfaction of a short story (not that it's similar, but kind of like GitS gave that satisfaction). So yeah. I'm loving that as well.
How have you been doing?

Sorry, I've kind of fallen out-of-touch with things for a bit... I'm not ignoring the last question, though! I've just forgotten to respond... will try to do so this weekend. @_@
But for now... I am completely exhausted and need some sleep. v_v
Sorry for being so hard to contact.
Congrats on approaching 100 hours, though!

Wait, they're bringing Monster to SyFy? For real? That's great! Mostly because it means there will be an English DVD set outside of Singapore. At least, I'm pretty sure it's only been in Singapore until now.

We should!
I think I could watch Akira again if I were just going to try to enjoy it for what it was rather than... well, what I think it should be.
But it just occurred to me... if we hold anime marathons together then I'm not getting any closer to catching up with you at all. :p

I am so lacking... but I will catch up one day!

I know! I thought I'd already seen the "Smile Land" episode but... I guess I hadn't.
And I was kind of shocked when I looked up at my shelf, saw Ergo Proxy on it, and realized how long it had been since I'd seen it.
So very close to the end... and when I am at the end, I'd like to rewatch it and analyze it.
Well, you've read as much of 20th Century Boys as I have now... I think the third volume has been released in the US, but I believe that's all. I really like the way Urasawa sets things up.
I've read the first volume of Black Jack... I really like stories they re-added. And "The Two Jans" was an interesting situation to see Black Jack in... I was a little surprised that he acted at all.

Hey Jess, sorry for the absence... stuff has been very busy as of late... I haven't been on LJ, Facebook, MAL, or anything else for the past couple of weeks. Though it looks like I'm on MAL a lot because of a program I use called MAL Updater... it keeps me logged in whenever my computer is turned on.
I'm going to make an LJ post soon, but I hope to get a bit more settled into my current place first. Since returning from Oregon, I've applied for work in a security company, gone through a week-long training course, found a place to live, and I just moved in last night. It's been a very long last couple of weeks without a whole lot of extra time.
Anyway, I'll be doing an update soon! And hopefully I'll get to read some more Black Jack when I unpack.
Hope things are well with you....

Jess! Coming back tonight and planning on seeing you! So long as you're still around, at least. Not sure when exactly... it's probably going to be late, unfortunately. But I'll give you a call when we can stop by!

Your job is absolutely NOT cushy. I'd still take it over factory temp work, but it's a far shot from being good... and it's probably not even a living wage. I hope you can get something decent as soon as (if?) the economy goes back up.
I am coming down for the weekend... wish it was longer, though. Not sure if I'll be able to see you so soon or not... the entire vacation is actually a present to my parents from one of my siblings. I hope I'll be able to see you, but I can't say at this point. However, even if I don't get to, I hope to make it back to Oregon again sometime soon for a bit longer so I can see my friends and all. If not before, hopefully around Thanksgiving.

Interesting. I have a small backlog of things I'd like to try to watch this weekend, but I hope to get to starting it.

You've mentioned time slot issues before... usually woes over an awful show taking over the time slot of a show you enjoyed. Sometimes it's been for Adult Swim, though.
Interesting observation... it would make sense.

...It always strikes me as so strange that you care about the time slot. xD
And BSS can sub fast... but they're pretty unreliable about it. They used to be called "Bullet Speed Subs" but later decided that they preferred to do quality work. On occasion it can take them up to two weeks to sub a high-priority show. Other times, like now, they're quite fast.
I'll probably get to see the second episode this weekend... I liked the first one, so I'm hoping the second is even better since the actual story seems to start then.
So far, my favorite show this season has been Spice and Wolf II. I don't usually go for romantic comedies with frequently naked wolf-girls, but the franchise has been handled incredibly well.
Still looking forward to Hetalia II (an awesome 19th-century-history-on-crack short ONA series) and the new Zetsubou (though I need to finish the original ZSZS first as well as Goku).

Well, Tokyo Magnitude has potential to be a good show. There's one character who seems like she might be slightly reminiscent of Balsa, but she hasn't really done anything yet. It's really hard to call the show at this point since the entire first episode only appears to be setting up for later episodes, so I don't honestly have a good idea what the feel or quality of the show is going to be yet. Again, though, it looks like it might be good.
Aoi Hana, on the other hand... well, it just felt like a bunch of shoujo-ai stereotypes rehashed. Very melodramatic. It might suddenly improve later on, but I probably won't be following it for long. If you like shoujo-ai already then it might be worth a watch, but even then it doesn't look like it'll be anything special.
*sigh*
Now to go to work and try out some of the other titles later on.
