An anime that attempts to represent the very hilarious and very loveable manga of the same title, Special A is a fun, no-brainer anime.

Coming from the point of view of a fan of the manga, I was smiling during the first episode, but, sadly, it wasn't as entertaining as people would have expected. It wasn't horrible, far from it! But since I'm comparing it from the manga, it comes short. It was okay, but...just okay.

But then episode 2 came. And then ep 3. And then 4. And then 5... And then I decided that I had to edit my review here in MyAnimeList. The delivery was getting better by the episode, I think. Or maybe the anime just grew on me. Either way, if you didn't like the first episode, stick around and you'll eventually enjoy yourself. If you liked the first episode, then good for you! It'll get better from there.

However, I still maintain that the manga is more enjoyable than the anime. But seeing as some people simply like moving art than still ones, then to each his own, I guess. After all, there are some things that are more hilarious on print, and there are some things that are delivered better in motion.

My suggestion: if you like the manga, FORGET ABOUT IT for 30 minutes every time you watch the anime. If you like the anime, then READ THE MANGA!

The anime adaptation was good enough, I think. The voice acting is top-notch: can't go wrong with Miyano Mamoru (Zero) and Fukuyama Jun (Aidou). I didn't expect a lot (nor anything unpleasant) from Horie Yui, but I think she did really well as Yuki.

The characters are well-done; faithful to the manga.

The animation, though...That's another story. Although it's not mediocre or anything, it's not as good as I would have wanted... There were times that I feel that it doesn't capture the glory of the VK manga. I'm fearing that the quality might lessen as time goes by, but I'm still hopeful that the whole series would be good.

The ending song was creepy: totally fitting for VK. It's eerie, beautifully so, which is also the reason why I won't listen to it on a regular basis. Hehe.

In summary, I think it's a good watch, but faithful manga-lovers might turn around and stick to the manga. read more
