Been watching anime since 1994, when a friend of mine lent me the first few episodes of The Guyver on VHS. Yeah, I know, but I was 13 and the show's premise - an average school kid stumbles upon a biological armour of alien origin with which he proceeds to kick mutant arse - was perhaps understandably alluring. The first anime I bought was The Professional: Golgo 13 which, remarkably, didn't put me off the medium altogether.
Since those early days I've become relatively discerning when it comes to what I watch and read. I prefer anime and manga with substance, but as long as it makes me laugh, or keeps me entertained (or both), then it's all good. Favourites not listed include Now and Then, Here and There; Cowboy Bebop; Samurai Champloo; Kino's Journey; Patlabor; Ergo Proxy; Yotsubato; Crest of the Stars; and loads of others. Read the list and go weak at the knees.
I listen to 80s post-punk and indie, electro-industrial, dark ambient, and doom metal; waste far too many hours gaming; read whenever I have time; and try hard to fashion my scrawny frame into something more substantial. I also like girls. They smell nice.

The box set is in mint condition - it looks unused. The cases are all original, the booklet is included, the DVDs are perfect and the inlays are all included. I can't complain when I only paid around $4.50!
As for the film itself, it was ok. The story was boring detective one with giant monster elements mixed in... I struggled to get into it since the lead characters weren't the best. For the most part, the story was easy enough to follow, but I did struggle to understand who exactly created the monster and how America were connected to it. The high point of the film (for me) came near the middle when the two detectives entered a storage building that had lost power and ended up running for their lives from the man-eating monster that had killed everyone working in the building.
As a film, I don't think it's worth buying - at best it's worth watching once really. But I'm sure you, a fan of the first two, would've been happy with the 140 minutes extra DVD and another DVD with shorts that focus on the characters from the first two films. I think SS still have it at the same price, so look it up when the next free shipping week comes around.

FUCKING DFFHFHHFFHF - I JUST SPENT AGES TYPING A LENGTHY MESSAGE AND LOST THE WHOLE FUCKING THING WHEN TYPING THE LAST PARAGRAPH. I HATE MAL.
...*sigh* I'll try again when I'm less annoyed. I can't be bothered to re-type all that again right now.
In short: You should check out the far shorter and more serious NHK novel for only £4, I'm happy your SS DVD turned up, my Patlabor: WXII box set arrived in mint condition and Nadia is supposed to go sour after the 20th episode.

Not to worry, my request was more hopeful than anything. I was so shocked that I scored two anime the same as you in quick succession that I felt the need to message you.
I'm still waiting for two SecondSpin packages myself. I wish I hadn't ordered them separate now... it'll all be for nothing if the two items I really wanted from SecondSpin don't turn up. One should've arrived by now since it was sent just before/at the same time as one that turned up yesterday...
This is what I received yesterday: L/R: Vol. 1 art box, Fafner: Vol. 1 art box, Tetsuijin 28: Vol. 1 art box, Desert Punk: Vol. 1 art box (no hat extra), S-cry-ed: Vol. 1 art box (with all extras, including necklace), Please Twins: Vol. 1-2 art box (with OST and other extras, but box is tatty) and 2 Fighting Spirit volumes (1 is incorrect). Not much really!!!
I contacted SecondSpin about the incorrect DVD and missing extra. They agreed to reship the missing DVD and Desert Punk box set. They did refuse to reship the Please Twins set because they don't sell goods as "in near mint or mint condition"...yet they do on Amazon.
I also had some guy turn up at 7 PM last night with my Hellsing Ultimate IV DVDs. Never had someone off eBay knock my door before!!!
Random anime paragraph: You should add Nadia to your list. You like stuff that's ancient, you being a borderline middle-aged man, so it should be right up your street. I really like it after the opening 8 episodes - it looks great and it's very easy to get into. It has an original feel because not many anime are set in France during the 18th century, and not many have a nerdy French kid and African girl as the lead characters.

Well, well, well: we both rated M. Actress and the R.O.D OVA the exact same scores. We now have a 61% mating chance!
I need you to explain the R.O.D OVA to me. I'm lost as to why a branch of a British libary has supernatural agents working for it and can order around the worlds superpowers. I also don't get how a clone can be the one in command of all the clones... Who the heck created the leader of the clones!? :|
The OVA was difficult to follow because it didn't explain anything at all. I'm assuming it wasn't meant to be watched on its own, it instead being aimed at people who know about the R.O.D universe in advance?

Funny you should ask - 2 packages just turned up. Only Suikoden III is left, which was sent after.
They send by ground mail to Sweden (no idea why) and then re-ship... I think. Ground mail usually takes 2 weeks on average, and then it takes time to be reshipped and...
I take it you still haven't received the DVD you got ripped off through Amazon for? If it's been over 28 days then contact them - they tend to be helpful enough.

Well, I always had this feeling since you and Aion were very... chummy and Aion spoke quite highly of you on AUKN at times.
But we've talked briefly a while ago and anyone who has GunBuster as their favourite anime is a friend of mine.
But yeah, mystery unfolded, one more question in my life answered.

Ah, I remember a little more clearly now. I'll have to get around to rewatching it - I have the full series on DVD. You know how my motivation is, though...
I'm currently trying to re-read Love Hina, some volumes for the 3rd time. All the delays that have resulted from Vol. 10 made me want to go back to the start AGAIN, but it's not easy sitting for 2-3 hours reading when you've already seen the contents recently. Right now I'm 2 chapters into re-reading Vol. 6... It feels like I've been reading the series forever. As much as I love it, I find myself wanting to get to the end at the moment.
On another manga related note, Vol. 3 & 5 of NHK FINALLY turned up on Thursday. I thought they'd gone missing. Vol. 4 has, however, seemingly gone AWOL, and I've been refunded for it.

Reading the story I quoted made me want to. It got a chuckle out of me.
Not quite sure why it was closed... I mean, we all have arses, well all have air and we all make toilet. :-/

Well, you did ask. :P
I haven't bothered with my GBA version yet. I might after playing through Lunar 2. So far, Lunar 2 seems to be more of a copy of the original than a sequel...even if the new main character and his sidekick look and act the same as the last.
Not having a PS3 or 360, I don't care about the new RPGs. At this moment in time, the only new RPG I'll be able to play is P4, and with me getting bored with FES and the pound being pathetic it's unlikely I'll be ordering it until it gets a PAL release.
Now that you can see my text, you'll notice I've edited my note at the top slightly. Why? Because, after not checking for a few days, when I checked my review scores again I noticed 2 more people had gone through my reviews voting unhelpful. I never thought making a forum suggestion, mentioning that I'd had a few people go on unhelpful runs, would've ruined my reviews...
I vaguely remember how GG ended. Didn't it end with the cast all being together, looking at the starry sky? I can't remember very well. Rejob my memory.
Wasn't there a story towards the end about one of the girls killing her protector? I ask because that story was supposedly improved upon a lot by Madhouse's direction and some filler additions.

As far as I know, Lunar 1 & 2 originally came out on a Sega CD console. Then, years later, The Japanese decided to remake the games for the Playstation, re-doing the graphics and adding anime cut-scenes. Working Designs then decided to release both Lunar 1 & 2 in limited edition (and expensive) box sets, complete with hard-back books and other extras, such as maps, making of CDs, soundtracks and pendants.
I picked up Lunar 1 off eBay for around £30 awhile back. Although it's complete and the contents are near mint, the outer box is a bit on the tatty side and, for the price I paid, I felt a little cheated. But, since it's rare, I kept it and left the seller a neutral for not revealing all.
Lunar 2 I picked up last week, once again for around £30. Thankfully, the outer box is mint this time around, my only real problem being with the soundtrack CD - The sleeve it goes into has some sticky inside, and the CD had gotten stuck to it. It got very scrtached when I wiped off the sticky crap.
So, including my mint Arc the Lad set, I now have all 3 Working Designs PS1 boxed sets. If not for me needing to re-buy unar 1 to get a mint set, I'd be very pleased.
With regards to the gameplay of the Lunar games, they play like the games you've seen before for the most part, but there are some nice touches, such as attacks knocking characters backwards and you being able to move your character to other parts of the battle (at the expense of a turn). The monsters also roam around in the dungeons, allowing you to avoid them...although the dungeon paths are so tiny it's hard to avoid them.
Working Designs did a great job with both games, putting an endless amount of text in. It's not a lie to say that after every semi-important event every NPC in the towns has something new to say - I wasted a lengthy period of time just walking around talking to people. And the dialog was often fairly amusing; not at all uptight or unnatural seeming.
It's a good job Working Designs tried so hard really because the story and gameplay are verrry simple, as you'd expect from an old school RPG. In Lunar 1 you spend most of the time travelling between 4 dragon dungeons in order to get the power of the dragons in order to fight against the evil intent on taking over the world...not very original stuff. But, with Working Designs effort on the dialog side, it was made into an enjoyable like adventure, complete with voice acying and animated cut-scenes.
By the way, you can get Lunar 1 in the UK in the form of Lunar Legend; the GBA release. Do be aware that it doesn't have Working Designs translation, looks worse and has an altered story, though.

Aye, the .hack movie is full CG. It looks like the +2 version of the in-game cut-scenes from the games.
I don't like CG much myslf; wasn't keen on Appleseed. But the .hack movie does look bloody nice, so I never minded that it was full CG. It would've looked far less good in SD if it was animation instead.
You really like deleting my messages, don't you? Bastard.
I'm sure any youngster who came across the links on here would thank you. It isn't as if people start getting sexual urges only after they hit 16...hell, it's legal in some parts of Japan to screw 13 year olds.
Gunslinger Girl is very good, yes. I watched it on my PC awhile back and was very impressed with it. Going into it, I expected it, like many anime series, to be over-rated rubbish - the title is a bit misleading - but it was actually fairly the deep, with the focus being on the girls and their handlers and not mindless action. I have the full series on DVD... I need to get around to rewatching it.
Word of warning about the second season: don't watch it. It was done by a different studio and they, unlike Madhouse, did an awful job. Bright colours, lower quality artwork, non-existent animation (lots of shaky camera action, though) and poor direction. I've seen fans who have read the manga suggest that Madhouse raised the anime above the less high quality manga, so...
I received Lunar 2 yesterday, started playing it today. I'm sure, like Lunar 1, it won't be very memorable, but I'm also fairly certain it'll be ashort and sweet experience. The game is a basic, old school RPG with the Working Designs treatment - what's not to love?

I do tend to listen to "girly" or wimpy stuff in comparison... A lot less focus on guitar and heavy drum work, more industrialised beats. Calm stuff, I guess. Sort of. I don't think you would like what I listen to, actually :O

Hmmm, well, I do still like Radiohead, but I feel I have lost connection with them and their music now. It's so...unreachable, if you know what I mean. I did like Kid A--some of it. One of the most depressing songs I ever heard, How to Disappear Completely, is on it. I do so ever love Kid A itself and Idioteque. But Hail to the Thief and In Rainbows are just blah to me. I only listen to two songs from each of those subsequent albums. I once told my friend that they've stopped making musical music.
OK Computer is one of the greatest albums in the world... Let Down makes me cry so much. And whenever I feel like tearing at my clothes or kicking things down (I do neither of those things, actually, but it's when you feel like it), I play Electioneering. It gets me so riled up.
The Bends was great too. You don't want to see how pathetic my friends and I get for Fake Plastic Trees. :P My Iron Lung is my angry song as well.
Unfortunately, I only know Creep from Pablo Honey...
And I do listen to some indie. I find myself associating more with Canadian Post Rock. Some of the most beautiful music I've heard were from this genre. :D You listen to Interpol? Finally! A band I know. I think Obstacle 1 just speaks to me on so many levels. I love his vocals. And he's the only person I know who can sing something like "Well, she can read, she can read." and not make it sound superficial or stupid.
I did listen to some of the songs on your faves on fm radio thing. I liked them... They are not generally what I listen to, but they were nice. I liked the Skinny Puppy song and the Isis song as well.
Hmmm, this may sound like a strange request, but could you name me ten songs that you really like? It's how I get to know about new music. Just most importantly, name me the songs YOU love. Even if you don't think I would like them.
Thank you!

Only the first CD was covered in the first OVA series. There's another 4 episode OVA series that covers the second CD coming out at some point.
It wasn't 10/10 worthy, which is why I rate it 8.5/10, but it was very enjoyable to sit through. Aside from the 1st episode (intro) and 3rd episode (Colette) it moved at a verrrry fast pace, so there was no time to get annoyed with the story. Pretty much all the towns and exploring was cut, leaving only bosses and important chatter.
I still recommend the .hack//Trilogy movie. You have no intention of playing the games, so spoilers aren't a problem, and it's well worth your time for the visuals alone. It makes me think how great PS2 games would look without the evil shimmering that ruins the looks...
