The main characters are not very deep, and maybe a little boring in my opinion. Their romance is rather simple and boring, but maybe that makes it more realistic. It doesn't bother me that much though. But don't think that all the characters are boring and give up on the main characters, because some of the characters that are introduced later, like the twin sisters, are really, really funny.
The story is enjoyable enough but feels more like a lesson in culture than your typical story, but that is a very interesting thing in my eyes. There is one character who is a westerner and he usually starts conversations on the cultural aspects. It is obvious that the author feels genuine affection for this culture and the unique way they live. Even though it is probably a very idealized version of the culture.
The strongest aspects of this manga are definitely the great art and the historical feeling of a different time and culture. There are some characters I enjoyed a lot. The plot feels more like a slice-of-life than a story, the characters are just living out their daily lives in a rather more unusual setting, kind of like in the manga Aria. If you are looking for a story with great romance and/or action this is probably not what you are looking for, even if the story has a bit of those elements. read more
