I recently discovered anime while living in Buenos Aires. I work part time here so I have and make a lot of time to watch it. I became enamored after stumbling upon Berserk and still haven't been able to replicate the experience and intensity of the series.
I like dark stories and violence in my anime and childish idealistic romance bothers me.

Ya I've seen the first 1/2 of Karas and then put it on hold until the rest came out. I've got the rest of it but for whatever reason just haven't gotten around to finishing it yet.
I have high hopes for it since I enjoyed the previous adaptations of it.

Sesgel has pretty much summed up my first reactions. Berserk as well as Gantz mangas are amazing. If you are looking for a great psychological classic then the movie Perfect Blue is what the doctor ordered. I see you haven't watched Death Note yet and I would have to recommend it as well. I can understand how the hype might scare people away from it, but it is actually a very enjoyable dark, psychological thriller and definitely worth seeing.
I'm a little hesitant to recommend Mnemosyne since it just hasnt been putting out enough plot for me, but it seems to be winning over most dark/gore anime fans out there. There is quite a lot of gore and a ridiculous amount of sex smashed into the show which is the main reason I'm still hoping it turns around for me. Only 2 of the 6 OVAs are currently out and each one takes a month to release I think.

if you liked the anime of berserk and claymore you absolutely must try reading the mangas for those but if manga isnt your thing you still need to watch the hellsing anime the 4th ova just came out recently
