For the last few years I've been shying away from anime and focusing more on the manga aspect of the things. When you look at the current state of how production companies of animes' stay true in the adaptation of the manga original-it has severely lacked with the majority of anime that's being released. Anyway, I've decided to get back into anime a bit more so if anyone has any great anime you think I would enjoy that's already not on my list please don't hesitate to let me know! Now, let's jump right into the meat and potatoes!
Kaichou was Maid-Sama Review!
Story:
Let's be blunt, when you've seen enough school anime & manga you start becoming a psychic...for some odd reason you know what's going to happen...Weird huh? The premise is Usui (the male lead) finding out about Misaki's (the female lead) secret, while being the Student Council President up holding an attitude of justice and authority she secretly works at a maid café. This secret ties the two characters together, and it remains as a central plot line throughout the story for her secret to not be revealed to the students at the school. This allows both characters who most likely would've never interacted become closer to one another. The story is mostly character interaction fused with situational drama & humour. How the two main characters interact with themselves, with others, with personal problems, and how they overcome each hurdle with each other. This is all with the underlying theme that Misaki is a cute maid:). Now the anime storyline relatively stays true to that of the manga which is a great relief. This anime isn't one that focuses on a 'breaking the mold' type of storyline but rather character interaction.
Art:
The art itself is wonderful, it definitely matches the light hearted atmosphere the anime gives off. I was delighted to see there weren't (to my knowledge) any recycled scenes, I really hate seeing a duplicate scene with just different dialogue...that pushes my buttons haha.
Sound:
The sound experience of the anime was great. Whenever, I watch an anime that has great substance it really reminds me how voice acting is a well established art. The emotion and expression of each character definitely comes through. Now, bear in mind I've been up-to-date with the manga so when I first heard Usui's voice I was a little confuzzled. I always imagined him to have that stereotypical dark, strong, and sweet voice. But, as I started getting into the anime I realized the voice was perfect for how is character is and he was portrayed nicely. Music is a big thing for me and I love a good soundtrack, now I know this isn't some epic fantasy anime but I felt like there could've better background music to match some situations throughout the anime. Overall, the light-hearted pace of the anime fit with the bgm relatively well.
Character:
This is the best part of the anime, character interaction is what this anime heavily relies on and boy does it deliver. The chemistry and sexual tension between the two main characters is sexy and really is the driving force behind the show. Now, there is a whole entourage of supporting cast and I feel like they are a step up from "minor character", the interaction between the main characters and the supporting cast is HUGE and that really makes everything come together. It feels like everyone gets there two minutes of fame while still revolving around the main characters and that's generally hard for an anime to find a balance between main and supporting cast. All of the characters have a personality there's no black and white and it's refreshing.
Overall:
There are not that many anime's that make me laugh out loud and this one definitely had me chuckling here and there. If you're into great comedy and a great romance then this is definitely the anime for you. With a basic plot line reinforced with strong character development and interaction this was definitely one of the better anime's during the summer season and probably the year. However, I wouldn't recommend this to a person who is rather into 'realistic' romance since there are a lot of unrealistic qualities in this anime but rather than being a burden it's more like a roller-coaster ride.

Ayashi no Ceres:
Story:
A very original plot line, immersing a young woman on her 16th birthday, into a world of danger and constant threat while those who are around her and those who she loves are hurt. With love triangles that are sometimes heart wrenching and at other times very sweet. And with a very important message which you will be blatantly told if you haven't already figured it out by the end of the series.
Characters:
Characters that are simply amazing, follow them all through their pain and trials that they have to overcome. All are excellently portrayed and their feelings really reach you. The romance between some of the characters is just grand, it really gives and shows you the true feeling of love.
Sound:
Soundtrack is just amazing, opening song: Scarlet, must be hands down one of the best openings for an anime. The background played throughout the anime is outstanding with beautiful instrumental and piano music. The voice actors, just wow, their acting, the feeling they put in each character, it is just outstanding, some scenes I actually think in the recording studio the voice actor actually cried.
What is so good about this anime?
For an anime that was released in 2000 the art is simply amazing. The plot line is so intricate and very original. The romance between various characters that really portray their anguish, sadness, happiness, confusion, and love. An amazing soundtrack that completely fits the mood and just makes you want to listen to the songs over and over again. I have to say, this is one of the best romance anime's out there. Enjoy this series. read more

Sukisho -
Story:
The summary may sound good, but what really lies beneath is a typical, overused plotline with no real comedy to back it up. Hey who cares? Were in it for the shoujo-ai, that itself was somewhat disappointing but enough to appease the people, however this story really lacked so much, not only failing to be remotely funny, it fails in the drama department aswell, the drama is so weak that you just want to laugh. However what really saved this anime from turning to complete boredom was Ran and Yoru (you'll see :P).
Art:
The art wasn't amazing stuff. but just mediocre art like most animes out there.
Sound:
The voice actors did a good job; it must've been hard being a guy and trying to keep a feminist voice... The music was okay... It played some really dramatic music where it just wasn't dramatic at all. Then again the drama really sucked all together.
Character(s):
Two names, these two people let alone saved the anime for me; Ran and Yoru, everyone else is either okay or just bothersome.
Why did I like this anime?
I really didnt like it, it was okay... There are some parts where you are just wondering, "why didnt he get up and run himself", there are some very very frustrating parts to this anime but what more can I say? Watch yourself and find out, if you catch the meaning of the quote in the later half of the series I hope you get the same reaction I did. read more

Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru,
Story:
Hmm, the story lacked quite a bit, being sent to a all girl's highschool due to his grandfather's will? What's in it for the main character? The storyline basis lacks in detail and does not give enough information, but through witty plot's and lots of cross-dressing this piece makes you quickly forget what the storyline even is.
Art:
The art of course was amazing.
Sound:
Soundtrack fit the lalala atmosphere perfectly and the character voices were nothing but exquisite.
Character:
Who does not love a "Cross-dressing boy that actually looks like a girl" character? The main character is very important throughout the anime and makes you quickly forget that she's a boy, whoops I mean he's a boy :p. With an entourage of supporting characters that make the experience even better.
Why did I like this anime?
Not only is this anime hilarious, but it has the capability to make you forget even the key plots of the storyline. Through various experiences the characters mature and relationships form. This anime is the funny, not serious, non-sexual version of Strawberry Panic, and it packs a soft punch =) read more

Video Girl Ai,
Story:
Another storyline where the impossible becomes possible, giving hopes to a guy who seems to have no luck, this storyline is pretty original and really sucks you into the relationships as it goes along. The seriousness of this anime mixed with the relationship is utterly astounding. A good storyline base and the story just becomes better and better.
Art:
For the time it was made this anime is amazing, truly a classic.
Sound:
Soundtrack is great, character voices are outstanding, really do fit the characters.
Character:
The characters are amazing, and really makes this anime cream of the crop. The characters all become well loved and you feel for them through the harsh and happy times.
Why did I like this anime?
I would say this anime is one of the best, it's love triangles are one of the reasons this anime is so great. The anime is a classic giving you 'Ah I want this to be me' kind of feeling. The plot is good and the relationship bonds that strengthen over time are just a sight to see. If you have a chance, read the manga for this short lived anime just makes you want more. I am still hoping for the day some production crew will remake this anime expanding onto the other manga plot lines. The manga is outstanding aswell so be sure to check it out. This anime is hands down one of the best romances and is purely a classic. read more

DNA^2,
Story:
The story is a bit odd, but is pretty good and is like any harem anime, silly but good enough. This anime lacks a lot and I have to say it really does shame the manga. This anime is very rushed and most plotlines are skipped, however it does have it's moments and the anime can be just one big joke. It's funny from time to time, also wierd, but it's not to bad.
Art:
For when this was made the art is definitely top notch.
Sound:
Soundtrack is good nothing special. Japanese voices are good but english dub sucks.
Character:
Character's are good, main character is the highlight of the show and really makes it what it is. Some characters just make me want to laugh, not in a good way.
Why did I like this anime?
I'm torn on this anime, they completely messed up the anime and rushed it so fast it turned out to be borderline bad. I don't know if the production crew didn't have enough funding, or if they blew it all on the animation from Madhouse studios, but it puts the manga to shame. However it is kinda good due to the characters, they are the reason this anime is arguably good. read more

Princess Princess,
Story:
The story is interesting... Makes me wonder if an all boys school actually does that... It's an interesting storyline but I really can't complain. Humor, humor, humor is basically what this anime tries to get you with. It does a good job, and it compensates for the man on man atmosphere. If your looking for some shoujo-ai you will be sadly disappointed.
Art:
Art is good, no repeat scenes... thank god.
Sound:
Sound is good, no problems. Character voices are perfect.
Character:
Character's were great, all with individual problems, while caught up in a mess of school activities. Development was great, and you'll come to like maybe even love the characters :D
Why did I like this anime?
It was funny, and a good breather between serious anime's (if you like more of the drama/sad type animes). However I was GREATLY disappointed there was no shoujo-ai between a "certain" two characters (once you see it you'll understand). The manga creator was "advised" not to make it into a shoujo-ai manga. read more

REC,
Story:
REC, incorporates real life problems with a warm feel. This story is basically life, while trying to understand your feelings with a cute spin here and there, but serious when it needs to be.
Art:
Art is good, borderline amazing.
Sound:
Soundtrack is good, character voices were cute, well portraying of the characters.
Character:
Character development is great, you end up liking the characters and somewhat can relate to their problems as time goes on.
Why did I like this anime?
It was pretty damn cute, life problems mixed in with a 'I love you, but wait do I really?' type of feel. It relates to life problems and is somewhat humorous and serious when needed. Very good anime, feeling of satisfaction I must say. read more

Maburaho,
Story:
The story, it's good, mostly like your regular harem but has a type of hidden charm that you just can't put your finger on.
Art:
Art is good, nothing outstanding like Madhouse or Bones production, but who cares? It is good animation for the type of genre it is. You wouldn't want to see Death Note drawn like Maburaho and Maburaho like Death Note would you? It would completely ruin the atmosphere.
Sound:
The soundtrack is good, nothing outstanding but short of great. Character voices are good as usual, fits the characters perfect.
Character:
What can I say, I'm a sucker for a person with hidden powers, and when the time comes completely owns. The main character is great, another loser with hidden powers is always a plus. All the girls are like any other harem anime, all different personality's, oh look... There's another girl with a sword...
Why did I like this anime?
The story wasn't great, but the feeling and the characters themselves make up for it. It is a good breather type anime between series. Hidden power guys surrounded by beautiful girls has it's charms. Anyways this anime gives off a good feeling and that makes up for all it's cons. Why all the characters in the op song but not in the anime? Because the production crew only wanted to focus on the relationship between the main character and all the girls, if you want more substance go read the manga.
