About danoboy
About me:

I'm danoboy, I am an average 14 year-old that enjoys running/track, swimming, anime/manga, reading, and so on.
For a while there I thought I had lost interest in anime/manga for good. I'm slowly getting back into it now though.

I accept all friend requests. However, it wouldn't kill you to talk to me before/after sending the request. But if you don't want to, then oh well.

My rating system:

10 - Flawless, perfect, 100% entertaining, etc. (rating yet to be given)
9 - Great, entertaining, mild flaws.
8 - Very good, pretty entertaining, mild flaws.
7 - Good, but nothing spectacular, may be boring at times but entertaining enough to finish.
6 - Could've been better, lacking in many areas, boring, unexciting.
5 - Mediocre at best, boring, unexciting, uninteresting.
4 - Bad, nothing good about it at all.
3 - Skip this one (rating hasn't been issued)
2 - Horrid (rating hasn't been issued)
1 - Awful, cliche, has no point, unininteresting, worst thing ever (rating hasn't been issued)

Thanks for the tip, I'll put it on my ptr list.

I'm also working on a review, it's for an anime I really love which is why I'm having trouble writing about it. I want to do it some justice, without sounding like some incoherent over-excited babbling idiot :\ and so far, at the rate that I'm going it's going to be a long time until I finish.

Yamine | Yesterday, 10:33 AM
I understand the feeling; and with Death Note being my first anime and Fruits Basket my first manga I also have high standards...or rather nothing has ever been so flawless and they have been to me. I also used to be easy with ratings, just for the sake of giving 10s as I thought I had too little 10s, but I came to my senses soon enough.

Yeah, I like to write reviews just to give my opinion on things. I've looked at your reviews and they're really good. I might pick up the NGE manga myself, but do they also have a lot of confusion as to what's actually going on like in the anime? I was so lost in the anime I kept having to go wikipedia's episode summaries to get what was going on.

Hmm...just wondering, where exactly are you from? (Just curious, but you don't really need to answer this)

Llama_Guy | Yesterday, 3:33 AM
Yeah, it's not realyl focusing on it's ecchi. I mean, you halfway see some panty shots at times and there's a few times with non-exposed nudity (just barely covering nipples etc), plus the main heroine's outfit is decently skin-tight (but mostly covered up). So it's not really a lot, and that makes it quite entertaining.

Tumerking | 11-19-09, 5:59 PM
There is a bit of female nudity at the begining of the series, but after the first volume theres pretty much no more. The entire series is on onemanga so you can just read the whole thing there.

Llama_Guy | 11-19-09, 3:27 PM
Hmm, me, too, but this one's really entertaining

and seeing Miu's nipples through her skintight suit makes it worth it

Llama_Guy | 11-19-09, 3:12 PM
Ooh, it's highly entertaining. Some ecchi, but nothing really major in that department (in a way, at least).

Read it, is what I say. I mean, it mixes the standard underdog theme of martial arts series with a classic shonen neverending-powerup trope. It works very well ;P

Yamine | 11-19-09, 1:31 PM
Wow you sure are harsh, and I see you've yet to give something a 10! -.- And people say I'm harsh. I lent my PoT manga to this guy in my class today (I recently introduced him to the world or manga/anime and now he keeps coming back for more recommendations) and he seems really excited about it. He researched it on wiki and seemed pretty excited at the concept so yeah, just lent the first volume to him. When he starts the anime I guess I'll ask his opinion it. The anime length is a turn off too, but then again I got through Naruto and still going on strong with Bleach; so I should be okay.

Tumerking | 11-19-09, 1:24 PM
So you like sports and slice of life? Read Suzuka. It's the best romantic, slice of life, sports manga I've ever read. The sport is track btw.

I know this is coming out of nowhere, but i really think you should try it.

Yamine | 11-18-09, 3:51 PM
Not really; the only "sports" manga/anime I read/watched was Hikaru no Go, and that's barely a sport. Plus, you already read that ;) Hana-Kimi is another manga that claims to be sport, but its not -- its just the female heroine gawking at the guy she likes whenever he does the high jump. Definitely a must-not read.
I own the first volume of Prince of Tennis and read that, it seems decent enough -- but there's 43 volumes so there's no way I'm getting myself into that (and I wouldn't recommend you to either), though I guess it wouldn't hurt to check out the anime.

How's Cross Over btw?

Aionic | 11-16-09, 5:09 AM
All you have to do is download something like 'utorrent', maybe restart and then go here and search: http://tokyotosho.info/

That's it. There's nothing hard about it, and there's no danger when downloading anime. Fear getting caught only when dealing with Hollywood flicks and big soundtracks; those are what people try to catch you out with.

You're missing out if you let fear of the unknown stop you from wasting your life watching anime. But, if you'd rather just buy at random, fair enough - it's your choice.

Ouch, only two? I hadn't looked. It isn't surprising, given the pricing of each volume and the amount of internet people who've read it, though. It's impossible (well, it was in the past...) to find beyond the first volume of 'Confidential Confessions' online, and that's far more recent - I ended up buying it in full to read it.

I often find it difficult to get into manga if the art doesn't please me. That may make me an 'art whore' but I can't deny it's a struggle to get past the early segments of a story if the artwork is naff. That's why, if possible, I stick to mangaka who that can draw as well as tell a story.

Phoenix is def worth it. You can get it for next to nothing, and the collection is wonderful; each DVD having a unique book-like case. The content isn't far off the Black Jack OVA quality, either.

We were all into only mainstream at first, right? It isn't as if the first thing you hear about when you get into anime is an unknown title... unless, like me, you happened to be looking for a shitty adaptation of a PS1 game.

Yamine | 11-15-09, 2:38 PM
Damn, two more years to go I guess -_- How did you find the manga?

It's a shame that nothing is peaking your interest. I don't think you should start anything new though, since you're watching 23 (I could never do that).

Yamine | 11-15-09, 1:06 PM
Aw, that's too bad -- my brother and this other guy in my class loves it more than I do, and laughed way harder than me.
Your parents really that protective? Do you buy the anime on DVD or watch it online? It really isn't that bad. I watched it when I was 14 (it was the anime that got me into the whole anime/manga obsession :D) To be honest, some of these 12 rated films are a lot worse -_- Well I do hope you get it your passion in anime revived. Maybe you need a break from it all?

Aionic | 11-12-09, 3:42 AM
Yup, I'm guilty of that... from time to time. I let my opinions run wild and lose all objective review reasoning. Rambling is bad.

(Sometimes the mission is to persuade readers not to watch/read what you're reviewing, mind.)

Why don't you 'do' torrents? If it's some sort of outdated virus fear, torrents for video files are safe. It's only downloads for programs you should fear. Stick to sites like Tokyo Toshokan and you have little to fear. And, if it's the will to avoid being a pirate holding you back, that's naive - as long as you buy the DVDs in the long run, downloading is no more than a free rental service.

How expensive Tezuka's manga is puts me off trying Phoenix or Black Jack. I'll probably only watch adaptations of his work for money reasons alone. I dislike the idea of reading manga scans on my PC - I like lying on my bed, with a lamp behind my head and a book in my hands. (/lazy)

I think Tezuka is famous for his story-telling rather than his art. Very few mangaka are good at both aspects. That's why it's good when the brain of someone with a story to tell and the hands of an artist are combined sometimes, like in the case of Death Note.

Talking of Phoenix, check out the anime. Like the BK OVA, it's aimed at adults.. or, in your case, a young man with a seemigly decent head on his shoulders (:P). You can get the box set, with lovely book-like cases, for less than £13 (I even imported!)

jet2r0cks | 11-08-09, 8:18 AM
Have you tried any of the new ones? I like Kimi ni Todoke and Umineko :p

Aionic | 11-07-09, 10:42 AM
Yeah, it's just stuck in my mind for some reason. People must've read your review and thought, "This is good! +1"... and then scrolled down, saw I rambled for a few paragraphs before describing the story and then done the review rating equivalent of saying "Fuck you!"

Paying for anime, on the internet? That's just wrong. If you're looking for anime, check out BakaBT; it's anime download heaven. Isohunt is an excellent all-round torrent site, too.

In the past, I also deleted and reposted when I got bad ratings. However, doing so only pisses off frequent readers, and even people who originally rated +1 might've started getting annoyed. Nowadays I just post once and leave it at that.

I need to go through all of my reviews, re-reading and deleting the reviews I'm unhappy with that have shitty ratings. I have too many reviews and, compared to others, too few positives in comparison. The solution is to lower my number of reviews. Ingenious, I know.

I'm afraid to read the manga or watch the 61 episode TV stories because of Tezuka's more cartoony style. One MAL reviewer described the OVA as the Batman Begins of Black Jack, and if that's the case I'm staying well away from the original version. No childish version for me!

And it's nice to have one fan in the world. I'd make you a fanclub card if I knew how/could be arsed.
