Muv-Luv Alternative is soooooooo goooood it's ridiculous. Nearly everything has been improved: the music, the writing, characters mouths move when talking. It's pretty crazy.

This may end up there as a favorite of mine alongside stuff like Fate/stay and Sharin no Kuni. I really don't have a complaint so far, which is crazy as I had quite a few with Extra and Unlimited.

And, sorry for just now noticing your reply. It somehow got lost in the sea of other replies. About the H-scenes: there aren't many at all. One per route in Extra and one for every girl in Unlimited. Don't really know about Alternative. I'll say that Sumika's h-scene in Extra is probably one of the best h-scenes I've ever had the pleasure of reading. As in it's incredibly romantic and sweet.

insan3soldiern | 07-26-12, 5:55 PM
Not as detailed as F/Z as Yuuko's ending is an H-scene, then a few scenes afterwards and then it more or less seems to lead into Alternative or at least that is the impression I got. It's hard to describe what I mean without spoiling, I'm afraid.

insan3soldiern | 07-26-12, 5:16 PM
That's cool, Muv-Luv is something I'd recommend giving as much attention as possible to and studying should probably take priority. Alternative has a lot to wrap up as Unlimited left a shit load of questions open at the end.

I know you said you'd try to do everything, but definitely do Yuuko's ending after finishing one of the regular endings of Unlimited. It provides a solid lead in to Alternative.

insan3soldiern | 07-25-12, 8:09 PM
As expected, Unlimited turned out to be much better than Extra. A lot more serious and a very detailed universe. Going to be starting Alternative maybe tomorrow.

insan3soldiern | 07-22-12, 4:39 AM
Extra and Unlimited combine for around 50 hrs. or so going by VNDB. Also, according to VNDB Alternative alone is around 50 hrs. So, I guess around 100 hrs or so give or take how fast you read. Personally, I take it slow and like to absorb the story so that's probably how long it will take me.

Yeah, it will be interesting, should an adaptation of Heaven's Feel ever happen, how they would handle those scenes.

insan3soldiern | 07-21-12, 4:05 PM
I'd think you'd have to include the sex scenes in a Heaven's Feel adaptation because, unlike in the other routes, they felt as though they were significant to the story. That said, the PS2 version of Fate/stay has Sakura act as a sort of vampire from what I hear. Though that would kind of break the lore of the Nasuverse, and in an odd way decrease the darkness of the route, that may be one thing they could do.

I don't think the h-scene would need to be explicitly shown, but we need to know that, yes, they did have sex. Ufotable did show a rape scene in one of the KnK movies, though, so there is hope. Of course, that was a movie. But, still, it shows that they aren't really the type to avoid topics like that.

Instead of "trilogy" I guess the more proper what to say it is " the three were supposed to be part of the same game". But, yeah, that's what I heard about Muv-Luv. Not sure where I heard about that from, though.

insan3soldiern | 07-20-12, 6:32 PM
Would rather see a Heaven's Feel adaptation than anything else from Fate. In Ufotables hands it could be amazing. The problem is that it's impact could be reduced without knowledge of the previous routes. Besides, would Fate/Hollow mean much of anything without the main Fate/stay storyline?

Yeah, the Kiminozo anime was really good. I had no idea it was related to Muv-Luv or even what Age was at the time, but I found it to be a very solid series. I need to re-watch it one of these days, see what I think of it now. I remember the characters felt very believable in how they handled the situation.

I agree about evaluating Extra and Unlimited alongside Alternative. It was always meant to be a trilogy, I actually heard that Alternative was originally supposed to be unlocked after Unlimited but they either had budget or time issues and had to release it separately. So, I suppose we should look at it as that.

Looks like you have the right frame of mind to enjoy the series though. I think it's a good thing to think about what role the different parts of the series play in the long run.

insan3soldiern | 07-20-12, 4:35 PM
Whenever you read Muv-Luv Extra I recommend this order: Sakaki, Ayamine, Tama, Meiya, and Sumika. That was the order I did and it felt as though it got better by the route.

insan3soldiern | 07-20-12, 6:23 AM
Me either, but that's probably because people only translate what (they consider) good. Of course that's a double edged sword as I'm sure a lot of obscure, yet really good titles aren't ever translated.

I never really got why some other Age titles like Kiminozo (http://vndb.org/v94) haven't been translated. Age is considered a Triple A VN producer but Muv-Luv is the only work from them to be translated. Then again, considering stuff from Key like Tomoyo After and Air are only just now being translated I guess it isn't that much of a surprise...and then there is Fate/Hollow (which I can't freaking wait for).

I remember there being a significant increase in writing quality between Extra and Unlimited actually. Enough to move my rating (at the time) from around a 5 to a 7. I actually am enjoying Extra a bit more this time around though. Probably because I'm aware of what I'm getting into and what's to come.

insan3soldiern | 07-19-12, 11:02 PM
l'd recommend reading all the routes in Extra because I hear that a lot of the plot threads come into play in later stories. Of course, I'm only going from second hand information so I could be wrong. But, like you, I'd rather have all the routes completed in order to say I've really completed the VN.

I wouldn't consider any of the routes in Extra bad just some of them are very uneven particularly when it comes to drama. It kind of makes me worried about how the apparently drama heavy Alternative is going to work out. Then again, even a lot of people who hate Extra on VNDB end up loving Alternative so something must change.
