About celestialocean
I am a woman in my twenties living in the United States. I've been watching anime and reading manga since my early teens. Although my interest has dwindled over the past few years, I still enjoy anime and manga every once in a while, and I have a soft spot for old favorites like Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon and Revolutionary Girl Utena. I'm also enamored with the artwork of CLAMP; I will still read anything by them, regardless of how messy the storyline gets, because their artwork is gorgeous.

Note: My manga list is currently incomplete. There's really no way of remembering every manga series I've read, since many of them I've read online and have since forgotten. The ones currently listed are pretty much just the ones that are on my bookshelf. I will add manga series to the list as I remember them.

Likewise, thanks for your kind reply!

A good friend of mine loves Haruhi to a 10/10, and when I questioned him about it, he answered:
I genuinely think it has a wonderfully original premise and toys methodically with its myriad of genres, nimbly weaving them together like an erector-set, then deconstructing them to a more comtemplative rhythm. It's not parody or satire by any stretch, but it's definitely wistfully commentative when it decides to get all meta. Yeah, the writing and dialogue are just fantastic, particularly Kyon's bouts of snarky, lemony narration. Oh, and I loved the characters; the main leads in particular are terrific foils with great chemistry.

Not to say I have any idea what he's talking about, but maybe you might. I found it nothing more than another school anime with a headstrong, unpredictable female and an annoying, unfunny male lead, cheaply spiced by shifting the episodes around. There were a few nice set pieces though; like if every episode was as excellent as the one with the giant alien, I probably would have enjoyed it a lot more. But the snorefest of a Haruhi movie that currently holds the #7 spot on MAL (and used to hold the #1 & #2 spot for an incredibly long time)? Unbelievable.

Hi there,

Just read your excellent post here: http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=456971
And I just wanted to say that I hope you continue to post on MAL, and make the forums a better place than its somewhat juvenile, pointless, and braindead status quo. But of course, the average age for this fandom is pretty darn low.

Oh, and it's nice to see another who didn't get all the hubbub with Haruhi :)

Thanks for taking part in Fai D. Flourite Fanclub discussions.
I hope we'll see you there in some more topics.
Fai loves you. For sure.

A fellow yuri and Yuki Kajiura fan?

Kudos.

I guess it's time to revive Fai D. Flourite Fanclub a bit.
Would you like to join What would you say to Fai if in person? or Fai crossover pairing(s) discussions?
If not, it would be fantastic if you could make any other topic you like.
Hope to see you in the club! Best!

Hello, I like your username! Oh, and Hunter X Hunter ftw! <3

Let's see... Out of what I can remember right now, I've shown her Ouran High School Host Club, Nana and The Wallflower, and she loved them all to bits (mostly Ouran and Nana but whatever). So, yeah, I guess we do have common ground. She even watched them all in one sitting just about, though, it ended up being a particularly bad experience for me as that meant that I couldn't get anywhere close to watching anime for myself, as we shared the same shitty computer and internet connect at the time. You can believe that I'm never making that mistake again ^_-

Drizzy_Drake | 08-12-11, 4:11 AM
Oh yeah, I know that feeling. Besides one of my cousins, I couldn't get any of my family or friends to watch anime. Maybe a Miyazaki film here and there but that's about it. And when I do find someone who's somewhat into it, they're not as into it as I am, like you said. I've tried with my twin sister though, but she's too much of a pansy to watch any of the good-to-great series out there. Like, Detective Conan/Case Closed makes her feel uneasy, Fullmetal Alchemist makes her cringe, and Rurouni Kenshin made her almost pass out. What a pansy, right? Anyway, to get an idea of how bad it is with her, I found her still watching those lame PBS Kids cartoons the other day *barf*

You're right. Personally though, I want to have a little more knowledge as to the happenings during each game. I've been meaning to start studying it for about a week now, but I keep watching more and more episodes before I get the chance :O

So, how do you like MyAnimeList so far?

Drizzy_Drake | 08-10-11, 10:37 PM
I think it has to do more with it being about a game most have limited or no knowledge of, hence its rather quiet fanbase. The same thing goes for most sports anime in general, unless they feature cute little girls in them *cough* Saki, Ro-Kyu-Bo, Bamboo Blade *cough*

That said, I (like many before me) didn't think that it would be as good as it is prior to watching it. I'm only a few episodes into it and I'm genuinely captivated by what's going on - even without much of an idea of how to play Go. It also helped that Obata was the manga's artist. I didn't know that until just recently ^_-
