Twenty-year-old shoujo animanga fan and high-spirited feminist. Trying to be a little pickier when it comes to selecting the shows I watch because I've been falling in and out of love with anime for the last five years, so if you have any recommendations based on my list, I'd love to hear them! awesome, my mum grew up there.
in the manga, I was absolutely astounded to see how they had co-opted Sabagebu
to transform it from a shoujo manga (aimed roughly at 13-year-old girls) into a
seinen anime (i.e. aimed exclusively at adult men). I cannot think of any other
example of this, but surely this can't be the first time. I don't want to get deeper into
details, but if you carefully re-watch Episode 1 of Sabagebu, you'll see that it is really,
really extreme in places.
But I will say that I am in fact concerned that there could be some 13-year-old girls
who like the manga and then watch the anime.
There are two good reasons why I am not in the "shoujo demographic". However,
with some effort, after checking a number of sources, I was able to come up with a
list of shoujo anime series that I really, really like: (#1=favorite)
#1 Ghost Hunt
#2 Princess Jellyfish (海月姫/Kuragehime)
#3 Sasami: Magical Girls Club
#4 Kaichou wa Maid-sama
#5 Kimi ni Todoke (君に届け/From Me to You)
However, there is a much longer list of shoujo anime series that I tried and gave up
on. It's not a criticism. They are aimed at shoujo and I am not a shoujo.
Yes, indeed, future generations of 13-year-old girls will always be able to watch
re-runs of all of the episodes of Sailor Moon and Cardcaptor Sakura.
Since you mentioned Ao Haru Ride, I'll have a look at it when it debuts next week.
