You are already involved in a cult of sorts, called "Observation is No Crime". Kajiwara herself, of course, is an extremely religious character, reminiscent of the early Daoist Zhuangzi in her "free and easy wandering" and her goofy playfulness, and of a Chinese or Japanese Zen master in her 'genius-simpleton' personality.

If you do learn hiragana, you're pretty much set, since every single kanji in the series (except the scribbled ones) has furigana. Of course, there's still the issue of being able to read the writing but not knowing what it means. That's my problem. But, that's what old Perapera-kun is for. And, as noted elsewhere, the fan scanlation group Musashi Quality has already translated up to chapter 62 into English, and they're still going. Which is a lot more than can be said for Mokke; the people translating that dropped it after 4 chapters.
I myself own the first 5 Sketchbook volumes; the shipping cost was about three times the actual item price, but boy was it ever worth it. And there's somebody who uploads chapters straight from Comic Blade magazine to mangahelpers.com. As we speak, the chapters from the December 2008-July 2009 issues are up there. Do you understand, man, July 2009. It's Sketchbook from the future!
