I'm a twenty one year old anime lover.
(From join-date)
I'd say I just hit my peak rate of devouring anime, especially after finding this site. Honestly I didn't sign up right away, but I just kept coming back for the in depth reviews and recommendations! I love video games and was raised playing them, but now I'm having to cut back on them because of LIFE =[ So now when I'm not at work or college (or socializing) I watch anime.
I also research before I watch, I have very certain turn offs when it comes to anime apparently, and 'yoai' is something I definitely wanna point out. (not against it I just don't wanna see it). I just recently got hardcore into anime after scratching the surface in '09 so please recommend some if you want. Thanks!
Rating System: I tend not to finish an anime I'd rate below a 5, I research a lot before I dedicate my time to any anime.
--Because of this most anime I finish will get a rating 6-10
---all of the anime I watch therefore is usually worth watching, if not entirely fantastic.
----Anyone should do research no matter what based on your own preferences, especially if you use this site.
(I tend to lean towards: action, supernatural, romance, shounen/seinen, and slice of life genres. All with quality plot and development if I'm lucky. Recommend some if you want! Add me as a friend if you want as well!)
(10/23/12)
My tastes in anime/manga haven't changed much in the last year, but ever since I got a smart phone I've finally started reading more manga while on-the-go. Fucking Awesome. So please, if you have any manga (non-shojo, non-yaoi) that you absolutely couldn't peel yourself away from, don't be shy! Pass it on! Thx.
PS: I also have been downloading light novels (Sword Art Online/Boku wa Tomodachi/Baka to Test/Monogatari Series), so if you have any LN's that you'd wanna share - be my guest!

I come off harsher than I mean to be, it's more like I feel bad when people clearly are blocking themselves out from things they might really enjoy if they gave it a better chance and it upsets me. I mean, maybe I won't give you recommendations you end up liking, and maybe you didn't like what you've seen, but I don't have any doubt there's some stuff that's shoujo or josei that you'd really enjoy.
If you want romance I'd actually recommend some Josei for the better stuff. Shoujo can be great and all but Josei is by far the best demographic for things with a HEAVY focus on really well done character development and realistically handled relationships. A must-see for pretty much any anime fan would be Nodame Cantabile (and it's sequels) which is a josei with a heavy focus on characters, the main couple (who, yes, are actually a couple pretty early on) with a very realistically depicted relationship for their ages, and lots and lots of classical music - and regardless of demographic or genres its in, it's by far one of the most well crafted anime out there. Another good one is Honey and Clover which is a coming of age josei with several main characters and main plot lines going at once (including several male leads) - all college students dealing with real life issues that are very relatable to, and romance/love is one of the biggest they face.
As for Shoujo, Kaichou wa Maid-sama has a really cute couple that was just entirely fun to watch and avoided any love triangle bullshit, both the lead characters have really well crafted personalities as well. Kimi ni Todoke is EXTREMELY frustrating and full of cliche misunderstandings to an extreme level - yet it's very popular and loved even by non-shoujo fans. Actually, a couple guys I know who were exactly like you and avoided shoujo ended up really liking shoujo THANKS to that show, so you may want to check it out, aside the main romance the friend characters all have their own built up story as well going on.
It's really old but currently I'm watching Itazura na Kiss - and a nice thing about this one is that well, first off - no love triangles (honestly, love triangles and harems are more of a seinen romance thing than a shoujo/josei thing), but more importantly it goes from them meeting and falling in love in high school all the way through college and up and beyond marriage even - instead of stopping when they finally get together like most shows do. Ouran High School Host Club has a lot of GAY vibes but it's actually a really fun and hilarious comedy making fun of fujoshi while also having a focus on romance with the lead female. Kare Kano was done by GAINAX and mostly directed by Anno (of Eva fame), it's a big weird and has a lot of faults due to Anno's obsession with being way 2deep4u but it's a nice shoujo too and actually has some really nice side stories going on at the same time.
Also, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, I'm not sure what it would be in terms of demographic - however it's an amazingly well done anime movie dealing with time travel and romance.
Oh and for manga I'd definitely suggest Dengeki Daisy - it's pretty awesome and I believe the number one rated shoujo on the site.
Toradora is actually a seinen - not a shoujo. Seinen tends to have some pretty nice romance too, if you want I can try and recommend some of those too.
As a side note, I looked up the thread again and saw you got into Kira Kira. That's a great VN, I really wish it'd get animated, it's got the perfect formula and would really lend itself to concert sequences easily, but oh well.

Yeah I dont mind sex either, sometimes it can even make a series better. Also yeah I didnt like pastel either had to wait till like chapter 80 or something for them to get together, I guess its more of a chill laid back slice of life as opposed to full out romance.

Yeah I never really liked shojos either, but I guess after reading them I appreciated them more. Anyways its cool if you dont like them everyone has there own tastes, just look at the list I gave on the bottom and you should like one or two things from there, I didnt include all of them probs you can go through my list and find ones I forgot. I think you will like usotsuki paradox alot its very good, well I thought the storyline was pretty damn unique for a non hentai although it is smut.
