Protip: try not to piss off the retarded and/or mentally unstable. They tend to do things like stalk you all over the internet and make total fools of themselves.

Really now? I guess sugary cute does not appeal to you, but I find the design extremely ironic and very fitting given the content.

Heh, I heard all sorts of wonderfully depressing things about NTHT.
If anything, I'd knock Alien 9 your way. I get people asking me how I could give it a 10, but honestly, it did something amazing with its four episodes.

I just think its insane. I mean its silly. Courts should be used for real cases and not for making theological statements or for comedy. :P
I think I read were they threw the case out though recently. Some guy in Nebraska. What was frightening is that I think I read that they said he was a State Senator too. Which makes me question the intelligence of the people of his district that would put a looney tune like him in public office.

I actually only got through one episode of Now and Then. It's rather intriguing. Actually, I was on a marathon, watching all the movies you thought highly of. Which is why I watched TTGL, as a final push, same with Mind Game. I must thank you eternally for giving me the encouragement to watch Kemonozume which I was going to brush off initially.

Oh, Death Note was an emotional roller coaster. But I can never think it a masterpiece because I didn't care about the fates of these characters. Its major weakness to me was having a two-dimensional cast. Mind, I am not saying they are bad characters, but they serve the story in a Shakespearean manner for the most part. Having two amazing dimensions used to carry the plot but lacking a third dimension that makes them relatable or realistically "human". Other than their woes and ambitions, is there anything more to Light and L or Near? Nothing. Good characters, iconic, but not complex or rounded.
As per the problem with TTGL, it's not that I did not recognise that the problems may not be problems at all. The reason I cannot possibly accept the changes or lack thereof with the characters is that it's too difficult to differentiate whether this was poor scripting or the work of a genius.
I can clearly see the merits of having the characters remain the same loudmouth idiots, striving to retain their old identities while some shed themselves completely to become someone else. Again, if this was intentional, it might have just been the most brilliant thing I ever saw in my life. I find myself making excuses for TTGL because I WANT it to be clever, I want it to have deeper meaning, I want it to be that masterpiece everyone heralds it to be. But I keep remembering my first reaction to episode 17:
"What the fuck is this...? Am I watching the right show??"
I wrote this essay on the character derailment of TTGL. I have yet to fine tune it and post it. I still think TTGL is a brilliant anime, but I can also chalk it up to coincidence that the characters' eventual personalities reflect something deeper.
But it does make me wonder, because how ironic it is that every person who frustratingly did not want to change ended up dying. To me, that was the anime's way of saying, "See, look what happens when you refuse to grow up." But was that the writers' intention? I don't think they catered this anime for anyone who wanted something more than just people shattering galaxies and hurling Big Bangs at one another.
People as myself who think too deeply upon it are left to be rather dissatisfied. I think people don't seem to realise I am duly upset by TTGL because I love it. Not that it didn't go the way I wanted makes me upset, that's silly. It just didn't go the way IT should have gone.

Yeah, Fall season looks awful. I already picked what I'm gonna watch!
Kimi ni Todake. Seems like a good romance.
Sasameki Koto. Lesbian comedy that isn't about fanservice or objectifying women or being offensive to sexuality? Sounds like a must-watch for me!
Blacksmith thing. Now, I don't particularly like the fact that she looks like a maid, points off already. But it's manglobe. I have hope still.
Natsu no Arashi 2. Because I want to say Natsu no Arashi was the best thing SHAFT ever did, but I've yet to see Bakemonogatari, which people are treating like the second coming of Christ.

I get what you mean, and I tried many times to rationalise how sucky that second arc was. And actually, watching the first few episodes again just makes me seriously wonder what happened to such a purely fun and entertaining anime.

I don't care for L because rather than depth we get a lot of quirks. I don't mind quirks, but that's all there is too him. There was one scene where he showed he was beyond simply sucking on sugar cubes and barefootedness and it was so short-lived.
I like Light more exactly for those reasons. He's so over the top and ridiculous, when he's in private, of course. In person he's so calm and pretends to be such a lamb when really he's a wolf.
