a happy earlier birthday and merry christmas to you! ^_^
Lordcrab86 Oct 11, 2010 8:45 PM
college is the same for me, i haven't been able to watch anime because of it, a movie or two maybe but still... :/
Lordcrab86 Sep 5, 2010 9:51 AM
nah it's alright

i watched arakawa under the bridge, really good show

and that's it XD

i just started school a while ago so i've been a somewhat busy lately.
Lordcrab86 Aug 20, 2010 11:15 PM
i know! it's not meant to be funny, but regardless you can help but to chuckle at such a thing XD
Lordcrab86 Aug 20, 2010 10:10 PM
correct me if i'm wrong, but normally it depends on both how that kind of black humor is used and also the situation. more often than not, black humor tackles themes and ideas one shouldn't laugh at (ie drugs, rape, death, abuse, etc.) but is made in a wittier fashion.

a good example of black humor is the movie man bites dog where a film crew follows a local serial killer. it should be dark and bleak, but it never takes itself very seriously.
Lordcrab86 Aug 19, 2010 8:56 PM
yeah, it's more cynical and satirical, that i like. the typical kind of black humor usually makes me feel uncomfortable.

it depends on taste, plain and simple
Lordcrab86 Aug 19, 2010 7:24 PM
dark humor, i don't mind, but in SZS's case, i felt somewhat jarring

yeah maybe i am a picky bastard XD
Lordcrab86 Aug 17, 2010 2:32 PM
i know that the cast represents japanese stereotypes and dysfunctions, i understand that rather. it's just that i can be easily irritated more often than not and have a low tolerance for such a thing.

or maybe i'm just being nit picky :/
Lordcrab86 Aug 14, 2010 8:29 AM
well it was actually chiri, kaede, matoi, and that girl from the last episode of the first season with no self esteem irritated me. everyone else were tolerable. also it kinda got less funny near the end and less amusing, though maybe i'm being a bit nit picky.

still i'm willing to sit through more of SZS later on
Lordcrab86 Aug 13, 2010 1:45 PM
SZS was really good, but i ended up giving it a 7 instead of a 9 because of the side characters (yeah it's a personal gripe but whatever).

that could be it or they got more talented employees. if you compare their older shows like sailor moon, dragon ball series, and fist of the north star to their latest shows like kuuchuu buranko, air gear, and the later eps of one piece, they've indeed greatly improved their eye of quality.

lol i finished it like a long time ago XD
Lordcrab86 Aug 12, 2010 10:13 PM
i think he needs to either take a break from directing or do that and let someone else do some work for shaft.

i notice our rather cruddy their animation was back then, but by around 2000 or so it started to vastly improve.
Lordcrab86 Aug 12, 2010 9:53 PM
i'll give them credit for one thing: environment

from the background to the foreground, they almost always look so damn appealing.

plus, i know i'm not the only one to notice this but almost everything from shaft is done by this guy.
Lordcrab86 Aug 12, 2010 8:29 PM
shaft has a great eye for quality, but as far as animation studios go, madhouse reigns supreme imo XD
Lordcrab86 Aug 12, 2010 7:54 PM
there's also the sequel, genius party beyond which is also on anilinkz. i might check that out as well.

yeah studio 4C has such an unique and experimental style of animation. it's easily far beyond typical art and animation, the guys there are total artistic genius X3
