lol im glad you dropped gintama i don't know what people see in it tbh. maybe it's a matter of age or could be many things involved whatsoever... but i'm in like the episode 53 at it got worst, completely random comedy with no real plot at sight heh. if i want to watch a actual gag comedy anime it would be one shorter than this and i dare to say that i found the comedy in Zatch Bell! of better quality than in Gintama :D by miles far.

Thats Yamazaki Sagaru from Gintama (you have that anime on drop list, though Gintama starts to be good only after about first 15-20 episodes - the begining there is pretty lame).

There is a long and venerable such Japanese tradition, yes, the most famous being the novel _I Am A Cat_. (The excerpts I've read were amusing, and if you listen to the Japanese dubs for any cat modeled after that novel, the deep lordly style is hilarious.)

I have very mixed feelings on fan service. I didn't mind the voice-over lectures on the epic history of calibres post-WWII because it was amusingly serious and a bit informative, though you could call that self-indulgent gun-nut fan-service, but the moe stuff was really too much.

I think watching serious stuff is a learned skill, and watching fan servicey stuff can reduce your ability to handle the real stuff. It's not just a matter of 'maybe I'll watch some filler'; the filler itself has effects. No one learns to read and then tackles, say, _War and Peace_ immediately, but if you stick with light fiction, you'll never be able to read a page of it without your eyes crossing.

I'd agree there, in Sanderson's first book Matt really did read like a caricature I remarked at the time; the second book was better, I think. And whether the third is good or bad doesn't matter since at least it'll be over.

Actually, one of my college friends was really into _Berserk_ and convinced me it was excellent and worth reading. But I looked at how long it's been running and decided that reading it would just have to wait for it to finish. Ever since I got burned by Robert Jordon dying in the middle of _Wheel of Time_, I've put a larger emphasis on only consuming finished works.

Mm, we'll see what the anime bloggers say *after* it finishes! There's so much anime to watch that I try to avoid in-progress stuff unless the critical buzz is overwhelmingly positive like _Madoka_.

Yea I loved battle royal.. Cant get into blitz though.. I looked up the new one on here and saw it wasn't added so I added it onto here.. Im totally looking forward to it!

Its a shame its only the 3 of us.. D=... Hopefully that will change as soon as there are chapters being released!!
