If you liked
Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou
...then you might like
Kimiiro Focus

Both manga feature photography as one of the main subjects. Kimiiro Focus is a harem manga with the protagonist trying to capture the beauty of his models. Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou is a mature slice of life series with the main character preserving the memories of fleeting experiences.

If you liked
Gunslinger Girl
...then you might like
Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica

Both series use fantastic elements (magic for Madoka★Magica, futuristic technology in the case of Gunslinger Girl) to set up stories which revolve around complex themes.

Expect drama, an immersive ambiance, top-notch music, surprisingly appropriate lyrics, references to classic works, and cute girls in unenviable professions.

If you liked
Narutaru: Mukuro Naru Hoshi Tama Taru Ko
...then you might like
Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica

Both series take a genre (pet monsters for Shadow Star Narutaru, magical girls for Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica) and deconstruct it by removing every safety feature associated with it. Do NOT make the mistake of showing these to children unless scarring fragile young minds is your intent.

If you liked
Aria
...then you might like
Marie no Kanaderu Ongaku

The two share similar settings, characters, and themes. Both protagonists are talented in their fields of work and have caught the attention of enigmatic supernatural beings.

If you liked
Blame!
...then you might like
Aruku Hito

Both manga have protagonists that do plenty of walking on their free time. The Walking Man could be summed up as "stop and smell the roses" while BLAME! could be summed up as "stop and shoot the cyborg killing machines".

If you liked
Sundome
...then you might like
Nana to Kaoru

Both stories feature a pair of highschool students who are brought into a strange relationship because of their fetishes. Although there's a lot of kinky stuff going on, neither go "all the way." Expect a lot of teasing and sexual frustration.

If you liked
Zettai Shounen
...then you might like
Dennou Coil

Zettai Shounen and Dennou Coil involve children investigating unusual events related to rumors and urban myths/folktales of their respective locales. What is regarded as "real" is questioned in both stories, and the key to solving the mysteries is locked in the protagonist's murky past.

If you liked
Gunslinger Girl
...then you might like
Aria the Animation

Both shows use detailed visuals and evocative music to create a European atmosphere (GsG is set in Italy while Aria's setting is based on Venice).

The two stories also feature female protagonists who are very much dedicated to their professions, and each one is accompanied by an authority figure. For some reason never given, their jobs seem to be open only to girls.

If you liked
Zettai Shounen
...then you might like
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni

Sure, Higurashi is gruesome and disturbing while Zettai Shounen is a violence-free series that goes at a lethargic pace. However, the two are somewhat similar since both involve characters trying to figure out supernatural mysteries occuring in rural settings.

If you liked
Narutaru: Mukuro Naru Hoshi Tama Taru Ko
...then you might like
Alien 9

The opening animations and the first few episodes would lead some to think that these two are merely lighthearted shows about kids with cute aliens. Beware the Trojan Horses!

If you liked
Saishuu Heiki Kanojo
...then you might like
Ai-Ren

The two stories feature young couples whose love endures through the hardships of war. Expect lots of drama and tragedy.

If you liked
Aria the Animation
...then you might like
Kamichu!

Colorful visuals, pleasant music, lovable characters, and interesting premises of fantasy and nostalgia. Both are relaxing slice of life stories about cute girls with unusual occupations. If you enjoyed either of these, watching the other series is a must.

If you liked
Death Note
...then you might like
MPD Psycho

Mind games, Machiavellian methods, and mass murders. If you found either of these titles interesting, you might want to also try out the other one since both involve unorthodox detectives hunting down serial killers. However, MPD Psycho is definitely not for the faint of heart with its sexual imagery, explicitly gory death scenes, and mentally unstable characters.

If you liked
Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou
...then you might like
PositioN

Typical Ashinano story: taking a slice out of an ordinary person's life and giving it a few surreal twists of fantasy and/or sci-fi.

If you liked
Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou

Kumabachi no Koto

Typical Ashinano story: taking a slice out of an ordinary person's life and giving it a few surreal twists of fantasy and/or sci-fi.

If you liked
Gunslinger Girl
...then you might like
Ai-Ren

The two series feature characters who try to make the most of what's left of their short lives despite their miserable circumstances. Both contain a unique mix of despair and hope although Ai-Ren explicitly favors optimism with its didactic and somewhat verbose text while Gunslinger Girl gives only a few hints and may be more morally confusing for some readers.

If you liked
Blame!
...then you might like
Claymore

Transhuman warriors locked in a battle for survival against hordes of genocidal monstrosities. Two no-nonsense series loaded with fast-paced action but without the bitter aftertaste of excessive drama and didactic sermons that plague many shounen titles. Both feature taciturn and somewhat amoral protagonists who survive against all odds in order to fulfill their personal missions, with the fate of the world hanging in balance as well.

If you liked
Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou
...then you might like
Ai-Ren

Two slice of life titles with similarities in their premises. Both stories show human civilization as we know it coming to an end and through the course of the series, the characters learn to treasure apparently mundane experiences and to value life for its evanescence. While Ai-Ren is much more didactic with it's somewhat verbose narration and extreme situations, Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou makes use of more subtle imagery and dialogue to deliver it's message.

If you liked
Zettai Shounen
...then you might like
Kamichu!

Both series feature supernatural phenomena occurring in rural areas. The stories are also slowly paced, reflecting the laid back lifestyle of the locals.

If you liked
Gunslinger Girl
...then you might like
A Kite

In both shows, the young killers themselves are the most tragic victims.

If you liked
Gunslinger Girl
...then you might like
Blood Alone

Lethal young girl has a thing for her guardian while he's just trying to play the role of responsible elder brother. (Aw...) Both series also feature regular people who are somewhat forced into unusual occupations due to their tragic pasts.

If you liked
Aria
...then you might like
Yotsubato!

In the eyes of the innocent, the world is always full of wonders.

If you liked
Yotsubato!
...then you might like
Ichigo Mashimaro

Cute kids doing cute antics. Two titles that will draw laughs and sighs as they celebrate the innocence, evanescence and nostalgia of childhood.

If you liked
Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou
...then you might like
Yotsubato!

Another light-hearted slice of life title. Stress-free yet not saccharine, it's perfect for the jaded manga reader or anybody who wishes to see the world in a new light.

If you liked
Dogs: Bullets & Carnage
...then you might like
Gunslinger Girl

Although the setting is an unnamed (and probably fictional) city, Dogs: Bullets & Carnage has a European atmosphere similar to Gunslinger Girl. Both titles have plenty of blades and bullets flying around but have considerable amounts of drama and character development give the readers a balanced diet of style AND substance.

If you liked
Kamichu!
...then you might like
Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu

The premise is somewhat similar: give a young girl godly powers and see what happens.

If you liked
Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou
...then you might like
Aria

Both are slowly paced slice of life series. Due to its brighter atmosphere and the moé appeal of the characters, ARIA is a good choice for helping people get used to the genre before introducing them to YKK with its more mature and melancholy insights.

If you liked
Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou
...then you might like
Mushishi

Local legends and supernatural phenomena; just another day in the lives of the characters of Mushishi and YKK.
