Umareru Kachi no Nakatta Jibun ga Anna no Tame ni Dekiru Ikutsa no Koto (holy shit that's a mouthful, let's just call it Umareru) is a pretty odd manga series. I wasn't compelled to continue reading it for beautiful art, witty humor or a compelling and original plot. I kept reading it to see how much more shocking the series would become. It has a sort of "let's go on live leak and watch fucked up videos" appeal to it. You just watch to see how much worse it can get and depending on what mood you're in, that's enough to keep it entertaining.
The story
...
follows a fat hikikimori named Izuya who after learning his school age crush is pregnant with one of his best friends child, gets drunk, falls off a school building and dies. After being killed though, he finds that he traveled back in time to when he was 11. He then vows to get his crush and fix his life for the better. So it basically follows the same premise as Erased but the difference being that in Erased, it was about a man trying to stop a serial killer and in Umareru, the main character eventually gives up on trying to make his life better, says "fuck it" and just does whatever he wants. This gets into some real messed up territory involving murder and rape. I found myself reading just to see how much worse the main character can get. and maybe I'm an awful person but that was actually entertaining enough to me to keep reading. That isn't all there is to it though with a supernatural mystery and an antagonist get involved. The story never gets too deep or anything though. It's more or less the same kind of entertainment like reading fucked up copypastas on /b/ or something. Luckily, the manga is only about 20 or so chapters long so it's short and to the point. Something relevant is always happening, there's a consistent pace and the story doesn't overstay its welcome.
Umareru's art is extremely average. There's never really anything exciting here. There were a couple of panels that looked above average but nothing amazing. One gripe I have with the art though are the character designs. They're just too bland and generic. The only character who stood out was the main character and he just looked like a young version of L from Death Note complete with the same outfit and haircut. Everybody else's designs are just painfully average and I sometimes even got characters mixed up because they look similar. In short, the art is just mediocre.
The character designs are representative of the actual characters. There's not a whole lot there. The main protagonist and antagonist are the only real interesting ones here. The exception would be one of the MC's friends and she's only interesting because the writer uses her to demonstrate that kids aren't only aware of sex but some are even curious, something you don't see a lot in media. Back to the main character Izuya though, he's an awful person but you can't help but kind of sympathize with him at the beginning and it keeps him endearing through the story. He's not a bad person at first. He's just someone who got the shit kicked out of him from life and you actually do get the feeling he actually really does care about the people around him at first. He eventually just realizes that what he does doesn't matter and just becomes a psychopath. The antagonist is also interesting for her motivations and back story which I won't spoil here but are genuinely surprising.
I oddly enough, enjoyed this series very much and it makes me feel kind of sick saying that. As I said before, this is the shocking kind of entertainment. It's the same draw that you see for something like Elfin Lied, a series I despise. The difference here between that show is that it doesn't just start in fucked up territory, it eases you in. A hot shower is enjoyable sometimes but you can't just start off blisteringly hot, you have to start warm and turn up the heat and that's something Umareru understands. If the idea of watching someone slowly become a psychopath sounds interesting to you, give it a try. It definitely isn't for everyone though.

Nichijou is a prime example of how success isn't a sign of quality. Nichijou did awful in BD and DVD sales in Japan, not even being able to sell a thousand copies in the first week of sales but, this is one of the most funny, charming and consistently entertaining shows I've ever seen and I know I'm not alone on this. Imagine that you take the randomness and wacky characters of FLCL and mix it with the style and sense of humor of Azumanga Daioh. The outcome is a lot better then you'd be able to imagine. Before you write off what I'm saying
...
as just hype, let me explain.
Story
As the title implies, the story follows the ordinary lives of some high school students. The catch is that these aren't ordinary high school students. It's just a bunch of lovable goofballs getting into wacky misadventures. There's really nothing else to it. No character development, no drama, no symbolism or even sense of progression and the show is so much better off because of it. Its simple and humor focused plot makes the show just that much better
Art
Just like with the plot, the show carries a very simple art style. Character and environment designs are clean cut and never too complicated. The style also changes to fit the situation on a regular basis in order to reinforce the comedy of the situation. It's something you see all the time in other anime, especially in series that are animated by Bones, but it's done incredibly well here. The animation becomes more complicated and energetic when the show gets into the hyper active style of humor and it becomes more and more simpler and slow when it gets into the slower type of humor. It ranges from highly detailed to bare bones simple and often even mixes the two but it never crosses the line and becomes bad.
Sound
While the voice acting is remarkable and the actors do an amazing job with a wide range of emotions, the same can't be said for the ost. The music in the show isn't very memorable or interesting. It compliments the mood well enough but it's not something you're going to listen to outside of the show itself. I honestly can't think of a single track while writing this review. It's not bad by any stretch of the imagination, it's just kind of unremarkable. This isn't the case for the opening themes. They're both hyperactive and varied perfectly reflecting the show. Go watch the first opening and you'll know exactly what you're getting into. The voice acting is exceptional. There is no dub but even in Japanese, anyone can recognize the great voice acting. The voice actors portray the characters perfectly. They frequently over act but it just works with the show.
Character
As I already said, the show follows the lives of some high school students. There's also an incredibly advanced robot that's indistinguishable from human (besides the key on her back), an eight world scientist who reached the singularity to create this robot and a talking cat. The characters are just a bunch of idiots that do nothing more but get into funny situations. There's not a single one of them that won't put a huge shit eating grin on your face at least once.
Enjoyment
As you can probably tell, I enjoyed this show immensely. It's essentially the Japanese equivalence to Spongebob due to it's hyperactive nature. It breaks my heart to know that there will never be a second season to this show because of its poor sales but hey, that gives more incentive to enjoy what we do have.

I'm going to be honest, I was really excited for Zankyou No Terror. You have my favorite director, Shinichiro Watanabe, teaming back up with my favorite composer, Yoko Kanno, to produce an anime with studio Mappa. Cowboy Bebop and Kids On The Slope are two of my absolute favorite series. It would be sacrilege for me not be excited especially with the trailer they showed off before it aired, but the important question is, did it live up to my expectations. Well, yes and no. Let me explain
Story
It's not often that you see for a thriller anime this grounded in reality like. There's no super
...
powers, magical girls, demons or shinigami. Zankyou No Terror manages to be unique and engaging without trying to get ridiculous like a lot of other series tend to do. It also doesn't treat the audience like a bunch of kids. Just because it's about terrorism doesn't mean that it's nothing but explosions and military style gunfights but it does have a couple of action scenes, it's a thriller after all. This series is pretty much all about mind games and it pulls it off very well but it has it's fair share of issues. There are a few plot points that happen after a new antagonist is introduced in the latter half of the series that just felt... dumb. To avoid spoilers, I won't actually talk about them to avoid spoilers but you'll know them when you see them. There's also the issue of the ending. Don't get me wrong, the ending itself wasn't actually bad but it's presentation felt a bit rushed. It's like 3/4 into the last episode, the producers just said "oh wait, this is the last episode" and then sent a frenzy of plot points your way and it all feels anti-climatic. To restate myself, the ending isn't actually bad, it's just the presentation. It could of really benefited from another episode.
Dispite a few short comings, Zankyou No Terror had a very solid and well presented story. 8/10
Art
Mappa did a fantastic job with the series. The animation reaches Five Centimeters Per Second level of quality on multiple occasions. It's incredibly crisp, detailed and consistent. The incredibly detailed animation is also accompanied by some gorgeous lighting and great cinematography that showcases everything at creative and interesting angles. All this is also accompanied by some good character designs. Everybody actually looks realistic. You don't see the regular anime designs with big eyes and outrageous hair. I really like the designs.
The animation in Zankyou No Terror is absolutely stunning. 10/10
Sound
Yoko Kanno is the composer. Need I say more? She brings her A game here and it's some of her best work yet. Each composition fits the mood perfectly. The voice acting carries this same level of polish. Despite there being no english dub, the voice acting here is incredible. The actors really know how to potray the characters
Just like the animation, the sound is executed flawlessly. 10/10
Character
The characters are easily the most disappointing aspect of Zankyou No Terror. They never get any real development and the little they do get just feels pointless. The main character, Nine, is just soooooo boring. Twelve is a lot more interesting and actually gets developed but it's just so they can shove a pseudo romance thing where it's really not needed. Lisa is easily the worst of the bunch. She's a useless klutz. That's the beginning and end of her character and despite a lot happening to her in the series, she never develops. There's only one character I can say I actually like and that's Shibuzaki. He actually has an interesting back story, good development and expresses genuine emotion.
The characters are so mediocre with only one exception. They're easily the worst part of the show 6/10
Verdict
Zankyou No Terror might suffer a few pacing and character issues but this is still a very well done show that you shouldn't miss. 9/10

Uhhhhhhh. I don't know where to start with this one. Not being a massive Metroid fan (only having played Zero Mission and a bit of Prime) I don't think I should really review this given the deep and involving lore that this epic requires knowledge of. (obvious sarcasm is obvious).
Story:
The story follows every Doujinshi artists favorite bounty hunter, Samus Aran as she does stuff or something. Okay, there is no story. It's just a bunch of lame jokes revolving around Samus's love for round things (no, I'm not going to make a joke cause that's too easy), and when I say lame, I mean 46
...
year old dad joke lame. They're really that bad. These honestly seem like strips you'd get with a capsule toy or bubble gum or something so you can't exactly ask for Evangelion.
Art:
The art is actually quite good. It takes on a very cutesy look and OHMYGARD, SAMUS IS ADORABLE IN THIS!!!!!! It takes a very clean simple look that just looks really cute and combined with the bad jokes actually make this really charming
Character:
Who can forget such great characters such as scientist #1, Scientist #2, and last and certainly least, Scientist # 3 and who said Samus. Remember how Samus is supposed to be this broken soul who's few allies have met death so she secludes herself as to never be hurt again which along with PTSD caused by the memories of her parents being murdered in front of her have turned her into nothing but a shell of a human who lacks the capability to express even basic emotions. Well, forget that. Now she's just a ditz who loves round things.
Enjoyment:
GOD WHY!!!!!!!
Overall:
I guess if you like Metroid

Wow. just simply, wow. It's astonishing just how much a fictional story can just hit you like this one does. It was a journey that honestly made me want to be a better person. I just love this show. It's amazing in every sense of the word, may I dare say it may even be perfect?
PLOT:
The story of Clannad: After Story takes place as you'd expect, after the original. Nagisa and Tomoya are now dating and we get to see everyone do more or less what they already did in the first series for almost half of After Story, but eventually they graduate and we
...
get to see them grow as members of society. I had a problem with how they handled the first episodes at first, but looking back at it I'm happy they did it as it developed the characters and made the second half all the more emotional. And yes, before you ask, the second half will probably make you cry on multiple occasions unless you happen to be lacking a heart. Unfortunately though, the same can't be said for the ending. It's a confusing mess and it feels like the writers wasted all their creativity and just tried to cram a happy ending where it really wasn't needed, and when I say it's confusing, i mean it's confusing. it may not reach Evangelion levels of confusing but i was still left scratching my head saying "wait, that's it". The plot was still amazing and left a massive impact on me. I have a feeling it's a story that will stick with me for quite a long while.
ART/ANIMATION:
This is where the show kinda hits a low point. It's only really a low point when compared to how well the rest of the show is handeled, but a low point none the less. It's not that the animation is bad, It's just that the animation seemed bland at certain points. There are certain points where the show looks absolutely beautiful but outside of those moments, it seems like KyotoAni was holding out on us simply because of those moments. The show also doesn't have a real definitive art-style other than a little moe. It just comes off as a little bland , but it isn't a deal breaker. The animation is still stunning during the emotional bits and ESPECIALLY in the opening. The opening is amazing both visually and musically, it's a feast for the senses. in short the animation is good when it wants to be, no, amazing when it wants to be.
Sound:
The main score is just the same as the first series which was just the same as the visual novel, which was composed by Jun Maeda. He isn't really famous for that much other than this and Kanon. It's decent at least but there are only like 2 songs that stick out to me. One of them is the instrumental version of the great big dango family and the other one is a song titled "The Girl's Fantasy". Another thing to say about the soundtrack is, the opening song is B-E-A-UTIFUL. I touched upon that in the animation part already but it just needs to be said. There are just no words to express the beauty of it. The score however is meh, but the opening song is good enough to carry the soundtrack. As far as the voice acting goes, It's also meh. I dont necesarily know about the recent re-dub but the original english dub is sub-par. I overall recommend the japanese dub over the english dub. In the end, dub=meh, score=meh, op song=GOD
Character:
This is when Clannad: After Story hits it out of the park and out of orbit. The second half kinda trims the fat and only focuses on the most central characters. Tomoya, Nagisa, and a new character named Ushio. They are all a joy to see on screen and the interactions between Ushio and Tomoya are some of the greatest I have ever seen in anime. Their chemistry together is just amazing. Same goes between Nagisa and Tomoya. I was originally afraid that I might not be able to take the series as seriously because Nagisa wasn't the strongest character but all my fears were abolished as After Story's plot goes on, her development is handled masterfully and it just made the more emotional scenes all the more devastating. All the other characters are still in here but they get shoved over to the side and are no longer central characters. I'm okay with that though as it's Tomoya's relationship with Nagisa and Ushio that really sell the show and make it a breed of It's own. The characterization is simply some of the best I've ever seen.
The Verdict:
Clannad: After Story is a show that really made me feel raw emotion which is rare for me cause I"m a rock. Okay I"m lying, my feelings are actually as delicate as a glass flower. It's a beautiful journey that made me actually reflect on my life and made me want to change as a human-being, however, some issues in the plot keep it from being perfect. But hey, nothing's perfect. And the characters and their interactions do more than enough to make the show something that really deserves a watch. Overall I give Clannad: After Story a nine out of ten.
