Both are rather dark one-shot manga's set during an older year era during war, that has twists in them that one may or may not expect, but make both stories rememberable.
I personally believe that both of the series have good sword fights, though in truth that is subjectional to ones opinion. To me, the sword fights show a wide range of movement, which I also find to be realistic.
The interconections between the characters are absolutly compelling as teh story grows and delves into them.
Bioth are simple, slice of life stories that make one think about life in new ways.
What do these two anime's share? They share a build of suspence, a mystery that involves both the psycological and the supernatural, with a destinct building of the plot line. Both are dark, but also have an underlying aura to them or some sort of hope.
Both animes deal with girls who have a scary aura to the students around them. It is about how they are ostrazied for being different, one through choice, (Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge), and one through the fact she is different and needs the chance to open up, (Kime ni Todoke). They deal with issues that suround the day to day life and has a somewhat gothic feel to them. The one difference is, Yamato exagerates the situation, while Kime is more realistic.
Both have simular styles and a rather dark storyline dealing around life and death, not to mention a fantastical theme to them, including alternative words or dimensions.
Both have strong willed female characters and alloof male characters, not wanting to have a part in the matters until they are forced to. Elements and swords are also involved, not to mention action scenes.
Both shows deal with the concept of kids with psychological powers, having certain levels, whether they are too powerful or not to be part of society, or if a seperate place is needed for them. They also feature for the main characters, girls.
Something about the coloring between the two I find to be very simular. Also, one has a really stubborn young character in both, either you'll find them very annoying, or you'll love them. There is also quite a bit of emotional depth to these.
These deal with the idea of special powers. Particularly those with children, and wheter or not the children should be treated like normal children, monsters or gifts to humanity.
What would happen if humans were to develop powers? Each of these shows take a slightly different view point on if this should happen and how normal people would react, from the view point of those with power and those likely prejudiced.
Both main characters have a dark past that lurks beneath the surface. Black Cat takes a more comedic outlook on the whole thing, while Darker than Black takes a more morbid outlook.
Both Anime's have a rather... dark motif to them, plus a supernatural twist in them that is not always evident, or becomes less evident as one goes on.
Both are rather dark detective Anime's with a supernatural twist that makes it a little bit different then the norm.
I rather enjoyied the horror in both of these, and the twists in the storyline that came from both.
Both deal with having special powers and abiities, not to mention secret organizations. The thing though is, Gauken Alice is aimed for a lower age level, while Darker than Black is aimed for a higher one, so be forewarned about that.
Both deal with mecha and magic. Both also have stories that are rather on the dark side. I personally prefered Excaflowne...
The coloring in some parts of the movie and the little OVA remind me of each other. Also, there is a simular mood. A main star in each has pale hair coloring, but most of all, it is the mood that reminds me of each other.
The delivery of important letters that help those in darkness in some way or another, that is the overall theme of these two anime, though there comes a difference with the genera and place, the feel of those letters being delivered is awsume
Both have simular, rather gothic art styles with some differences and they feature witches.
Both the Ayatsuri Sakon Anime and the Detective Conan movie have mystery/mysteries that suround antinquities of Japan, not to mention the history of Japan. Both are chalk full of information.
While the Detective Conan movie touches upon Holmes lightly, the other Anime brings to life the Queen of mystery's work, adding in a new character, possibly a bit older then Conan, and quite likely not as helpful as our favorite shrunken hero.
A good deal of people recomend these two together because they are simular. That is where it ends, they are simular, but one should expect some majorly different senarios between the two. But the simularities... training monsters, traveling, growing up... are the things that might mean if one likes one, they might like the other.
Spiral and Tantei Gauken Q both deal with mystery sindicates that they are out to stop. There is also a rather dark mood to both shows, though Spiral is probabbly the darkest of the two.
The cases in Tantei Gauken Q are rather on the extreme side, where the murder is... not so much bizare, but they have a level of depth to them. I found the same with this Detective Conan Movie.
I don't wish to give away much of the plotline of the movie, but let's just say that mechanics and injunuity, much like the mechanics for puppets like Ukon, are invovled. Plus, Kito Kid and Sakon are both ventriliquists...
Agatha Christie work is mentioned sometimes by Conan and others in the show. Many a mystery story has found insperation in her work.
Petshop of Horrors - Both are mystery based, supernatural and both have a simular art style.
Both of the girls in this are preteens who are growing up in their own way and go through life learning to believe in theirselves, same as their friends. Their is a magic theme to both, and the art work is in each very nice, though it should be mentioned that Mahou Shoujo Tai Arusu is rather different then the norm art style wise.
Both offer a twist on the vampire genera.
While the story lines are rather different, there is an air of mystery about them, an unsolved part of the whole matter that while one can try guessing about the ending outcome, unless one has seen them before, done research, or pays close attention, one might not get the jest of what is going on with everything until the very end. The endings are for the most part, unexpected, or with such a twist that it is like wow...
Both have demons in them, in different asspects. Except Yagaya no Oinari-sama is a lot more light hearted then Amatsuki.
Both have modern and non-modern aspects to the story line. They also have demons of some form or another.
Both have a very simular theme based around a boy samurai or ninja who is surrounded by girls, clueless to the fact that one or more like him. Nijuu Mensou is probabbly geared more towards girls, while Asu no Yoichi is geared more towards boys... and has panty humor in it.
Both have very koi female lead characters, who are rather naive about certain things. They also have anime figurines in the show. Both shows are rather simple, rather sweet, mild story line that is rather relaxing.
Both Anime's have a rather dark side to them, yet still manage to have the lightness that is needed to pull it through to be very likable. I also see Sakon carring Ukon around all the time, and Razel ends up carring around her teddy bear.
Raven, stuffed toy rabbits, naive main character who has a darker side, the unknown, need I say more, other then the story lines tend to be very dark.
The two main characters remind me of each other, except I am more liking of the main character of Pandora's heart as the one in Suteki Tantei Labyrinth is even more naive and tends to see the world through rose colored glasses.
Bleach is simular to Pandora hearts in that they have simular elements to them, yet these elements are put into place in the story line in completly different ways, making them two completly different stories with simular vibes.
Both have Shingami, though in one case it seems that the shingami play the bad guys. There are also action scenes in both.
Shingami are prelevant in both Anime, though each is different in their own way. the art level is also very detailed and high end.
Hanyƫ reminds me of the demons in Inu Yasha... the cute ones that is. If one happens to like the other kind of genera, then one might try the other on for size.
Demon of some sort or another apear, though the concept behind each are very different. There are also a ton of sword play in there that works beatifully.
Both of these animes have great sword fights. They also artistically do period art, though Bleach also has modern things in it.
I liked the gun fights in both, though Black Cat tends to be a lot darker and Trigun is a lot more humerous.
Somewhere I read that the two manga artists worked together before they became famous. Let's just say their styles have major simularities.
They are both mystery series, though Ayatsuri Sakon plays in it more. What drove me to recomend it more was the concept of 'puppets' that run through both shows. Also, the opening to Suteki Tantei Labryinth has some things that remind me of the closing for Ayatsuri Sakon.
Both have Shigonami, though in Bleach it is the concept that they take the souls to their final destination, in Shigonami, it is deleivering the last message of the dearly departed to the living. Appologies for the spelling of a certain word.
Both of these are based in elementary school and are made for the same age group roughly and have a very perky attitude most of the time, though sometimes taking a more series tone.
Both of the main heroines have a very naive out look on life and a very positive can't be brought down to the dumps.
Like the main character of Fruit Basket, the girls in Lovedol are trying to live out their dreams. While for them it is to make it through to become singing idols and she wants to get through high school, they still have high hopes. One of the girls from Lovedol has a not so good life too.
Both have simular art work for one thing. The other thing is, they have a very... exagerated sence of the storyline that makes one laugh.
While both of these anime's are of different genera, both have a very simular goth vibe to them. This is rather hard to explain unless you watch it. The coloring is simular and so is the depth on the characters.
Both of these are the supernatural mystery type. Both deal with some force that is causing problems, though El El is more liniar and Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro is more arc format. Both are slightly bizare in their art work too.
Both are detective mystery series that deal with the Japanese culture. Ayatsuri Sakon takes it from a more modern persepctive while Sakura no Ichiban actually takes place in a different era. Also, the drawing style is simular, yet different.
Both Detective Conan and St. Luminous Mission High School happen to be mystery based, though the second is more supernatural while the first is more detective based. They also have twists to the plot line that no one expects.
Both take place in a high school setting, both have a boy character who crossdresses as a girl, one because he has to, one because he wants to. Also, both happen to have supernatural events happen. In Happiness! it is magic based while St. Luminous Mission High School is mysterious disaperances. They have slightly different flavors, but they are still nice.
Ukon and Kenchin look very much alike. This is due to the fact that the two manga artists supposidly worked together early on. This being said, while they are different genera, the styles of the artists are very simular.
1. The outfits of the magic girls have simular detail.
Both are race of the magic girls to obtain something to become the number one, in one case to become a princess, and in the other to become the number one magic girl.
Sakura is basically a high school Detective like Kudo, except that she is female, lives in a different time frame and retains her teenage size. She goes to a 'finishing school' for young ladies, but practices the Kendo from her fathers dojo. Her older brother is a police officer and she walks into things.
1. Both shows have unkown organizations. |
