Since I've posted a review now (which I was trying to avoid doing), I suppose I should add in the method I use to rate the anime I watch. Aside from the fact that I'm a bit lenient, my scores tend to be higher because I'm very good at finding the kind of anime I like. That said, here it is:
1-5 (F): I don't know, I've managed to avoid anything like this thus far. I'd most likely drop anything below a 5. This despite the fact that I try hard to finish anything I start, and try not to rate anything until I've completed it. (Pokemon is the exception to that rule, because everyone knows that season 1 is the only real season... just like RBY/GSC and the first two Pokemon Stadiums are the only real Pokemon video games... and Base, Base 2, Jungle, and Fossil are the only real sets of Pokemon cards. Please. Get your newfangled garbage off my lawn you blasted kids. Why, back in my day...)
6 (C-/C): The series or movie does an ok job, and wraps itself up decently despite putting me through frustration (and not the good, I'm connecting with the characters frustration either) with some of the things it did.
7 (C+/B-): I thought the series or movie was decent, and I'd be willing to watch it again with friends. While I didn't connect with it very well and it didn't do a stellar job evoking whatever response it was going for (be it comedic, serious, etc.), it interested me and I did get some enjoyment out of it.
8 (B/B+): The series or movie was very enjoyable. I had a good time watching it and would watch it again at some point at least once. Whatever it was going for, it succeeded. Despite this, there was just something about it that holds it back from being a 9 (most often something I can't quite put my finger on, I just feel it).
9 (A-/A): I connected well with the characters and the series or movie held my attention by whatever means it chose to use. I found the characters interesting and the story compelling (if it didn't rely too heavily on an overarching plot, then the characters and the things they went through from episode to episode were compelling). I'd watch it again at least once. This is also the level where I recommend a series or movie while I'm still watching it, and then recommend it again after completing it.
10 (A+): This one could even be an AA+ rank. I loved the characters and the series or movie grabbed my attention and didn't let go. Not only did I have to finish it, I also had to check to see if there were any sequels or OVAs and look into any manga or light novels that may be available on the series or movie. I'll also try to acquire figures of some of the characters. If I don't have anything else to watch, I'll watch it again. If I know anyone who hasn't seen it, I'll make them watch it (and try to do so at my house, so I have an excuse to rewatch it again). I will keep recommending it to people regardless of any disinterest they may try to display. No amount of discussion will ever convince me that the series or movie is anything less than the greatest thing since sliced bread, and you're much better off just nodding and saying "Yeah, I thought it was pretty good" than ever revealing even the slightest hint that you thought otherwise.
Aside from that it should also be noted that 6s, 7s, and 8s wrap things up decently to fairly well, whereas 9s and 10s (depending on the tone) either have a bombshell ending that leaves me completely satisfied (possibly craving a sequel, where appropriate) and then tapers off smoothly into a relaxing conclusion, or (in cases such as Azumanga Daioh) simply flow nicely into the calm and relaxing ending.
