I'm just an old fashioned fellow who enjoys a good adventure. While I'll watch most anything, I prefer anime that know how to tell humble stories over pretentious ones that lose themselves in a convoluted plot. In the end, storytelling for me is far more significant than the story itself (of course, having both is always welcome).

Shows longer than 26 episodes just aren't generally for me (Often I'll even have a hard time digesting 26 episodes); I feel time could be better spent experiencing a wider variety of anime. Obviously, that means I don't watch most of the mainstream shonen series's. However, I try to check out some of the more popular shows alongside with the lesser known ones.

When I rate anime, generally use this guideline:

Design:
-World design "Is the setting living, believable?"
-Visual style/ Artistic flair "Is the art or animation eye catching?"
-Sound design "Is the music & sfx appropriate?"

(Content) Integrity:
-Performances/ Acting/ Dialogue "How do characters sell themselves?"
-Variety/ substantiality "Are the stories worth telling?"
-Concept/ Reflexivity "Is it smart and edgy?"

Structure (Character development falls under here):
-(Episodic) flow/ pacing "Is the storytelling worthy?"
-Arch transition "Do the stories connect?"
-Overarching coherency "Do the themes function as a whole?"

Overall:

Design, Content, and Structure all weigh equally in most cases, though sometimes one or more aspect is impressive or terrible enough to affect my overall impression.
