I currently have Texhnolyze on hold, haven't seen either Berserk or Black Lagoon, but I
can give an opinion on SAC and Ergo Proxy. One significant thing that might deter
future watchers of SAC is its professionalism. The characters don't come to any
rhapsodic turning points and neither do they elicit any of the same emotions from
the viewer. Sure we may empathize with them occasionally, but their cool intellect
isn't exactly the easiest personality to bond with. (Is there any surprise that the
Tachikomas connect to us the most? Ironic, no?) Overall the plot is sound and the
execution is well done. If you can't stomach it, at least watch the Complex episodes
(Main story).

Concerning Ergo Proxy, I seriously stress the importance of understanding western
theology or knowing a little about existentialism. Otherwise, one might end up being
the mass of people who understood nothing about it. I found the beginning to be highly
promising, but the middle became, to put it politely, free time for the directors to
experiment with their own ideas and our patience. Nonetheless, the ending delivered all
the despair it was expected to. Personally, this one is stuck in a limbo between 8 and
9.

I think Big O is a bit more entertaining than Ergo Proxy (which is dreary) and still
contains a poignant existentialist plot. I'm definitely not saying it's better, but the
series is a bit more lighthearted and therefore palatable to someone who casually enjoys such topics. Or maybe it's just nostalgia on my part?

As far as I am concerned, Monster is the crème de la crème in the
genre of seinen. The main characters may be perceived as single
minded, but it efficiently contrasts the hero and the antihero.
Besides, we already have some memorable minor characters to grip us with their
dynamic histories. I would recommend watching some 7s or 8s before
watching Monster; I'd argue that you'll hold them to higher standards
after having watched Monster, thereby enjoying them less.

Scoring is srs business. I envy you for every 3, 4, 5 and 6 you've given.
