Say, how are the Rebuild of Evangelion movies? I've been thinking of watching them as well.
Also, how is Simoun? You seem to love it, and it has Toshihiko Sahashi as the guy who does the music, so the soundtrack is probably going to be fantastic.

Dem upbeat tunes, man.

I don't know, the playful music while Eva unit 01 was being swallowed into Rei/Lilith's head through a vagina with an eye in it was just... unsettling.

After going through End of Evangelion a few times and deciding to look up the OST, I found out that they could have Everything You Have Ever Dreamed during instead of Kom, Susser Tod, but went with the latter.
Which song do you like more? Personally I think it would have been better if they played the former.

Oh I've been looking for more manga to read and a good place to start...hmm though it may take me some time to get on I've have both BLAME! and YKK sitting on my external drive for some time.

I hear FLCL has an epic dub. Would it be better to watch it like that?

So the plot itself is secondary to the characters, which is what Evangelion really was about?
Suddenly everything makes more sense. Thank you.

I'd say it's something like a great novel without an abridged or by-the-numbers version waiting for those who don't understand something.
On Rebuild, having seen the decidedly quality deprived camrip of 2.0 I can't say I like how things were handled but I'll leave my pitchfork (or lance even) until after I've seen 3.0 and Final.

That is true and really something that should have taken to heart some time ago. I did both love and hate trying to find how things worked and got lost in it all. At times never really felt satisfied with my own reasoning. I suppose that is just something else to be said of its potential to grab people.
With the way things are developing I sure hope Rebuild end up being worthwhile.

On the subject of Eva as you mentioned, I suppose most people get caught up in the "plot" of Eva and tend to gloss over the meat of what is truly important (the characters and their interactions among a myriad of interesting directorial choices and existential themes)
I don't think that this is particularly a bad thing really, the worldview and...uh verisimilitude of what happens in Eva is so well crafted that most people are probably overwhelmed and get lost in the minutia of it all. For an ultimately unimportant aspect of the series, the worldview, consistent history and incredibly irrelevant religious allusions are pretty interesting I think. They really just exist as dressing and act as vehicle for putting us into the mindset of these characters. Or at least that's what I've found the largely incidental out-of-nowhere angel appearances that advance the inevitable end of things to be.
I think End of Evangelion can stand on it's own in that respect though with it's own brand of surreal visual imagery and incredible production values...but even then it's more of a punch in the gut to already confused watchers at times. This is primarily why I tend to avoid talking about Eva in that there are no real conclusive answers to the "plot"(something that I actually appreciate) and all discussions end up going nowhere and no one ever seems to care about the aspects of the series presented at face value.

Wait, what powers the Evangelions again? Is it their connection to the embedded consciousness, or how mentally disturbed and frightened the pilot is? Something about AT fields being generated by fear or whatnot.

Oh, ok. So the entirety of Evangelion is Shinji deciding whether to get close to others and be hurt at the same time or stay in his own world and never change.
I'll have to rewatch this sometime, I think I'll slowly appreciate it more.

So, because of Seele wanting to fulfill their interpretation of the Dead Sea prophecies, they start the Instrumentality project to 'evolve' mankind, which was the main reason Nerv was founded, am I right so far?
What exactly is an angel? I still don't know if they are just hostile aliens with the ability to generate powerful AT fields, or are they more than that? Adam and Lilith are the ones who trigger Instrumentality, turning everyone into LCL, but just what are they?
So Rei was made by Gendo as a vessel for Lilith so he could trigger Instrumentality when he liked so as to unite with Yui , as well as to help him cope with Yui Ikari's death in the meantime?
There are so many questions that just these are the ones I can think of for now, but I hope you can answer them.
Oh yes, what powers the Eva is the connection between the consciousness embedded in them and the pilots?
