"There's no point in being grown up if you can't be childish sometimes".
Hello there, welcome to my profile!
To be honest, I wasn't planning on writing anything here, since I thought it would be pointless. After all, who would be interested in visiting some random profile? Well, unless the statistics are wrong, it seems many people visited it, so I guess I should put something about me here.
It goes without saying that I like anime and manga (Duh!), but not to the point of being an obsession, even though that humongous "Plan to watch" list may suggest the opposite (there is a perfectly good reason for the size of that list, I swear!).
(EDIT: when I originally wrote this I completely forgot to write something about my other hobbies (thanks to Akunin for unintentionally reminding me of this fact). Oh, well, better late than never.)
I listen to all kinds of music, although my favorite genres are Jazz and Heavy Metal (kind of a weird combination, isn't it?). As for books, I don't have a favorite genre, but my favorite author is Terry Pratchett. Regarding TV shows, I got hooked on Doctor Who thanks to a friend who wouldn't stop talking about it. I also like playing video games every once in a while (especially RPGs and Strategy Games). Finally, and above all, I love anything that makes me laugh, so I consider myself a fan of things like Mystery Science Theater 3000, Monty Python's Flying Circus and some web shows like the Cinema Snob, Brows Held High or Read Right to Left.
As you can see in my profile details, I'm from Spain, which of course means that English is not my first language, so don't be too surprised if I write something that doesn't seem to make much sense: it's probably just me trying (and failing) to break the language barrier.
Well, I guess that's it. Thanks for reading this and please, leave a comment if you feel like it. Bye!
P.S. And now, that awkward moment when the Fourth Doctor calls the British Ministry of Defence in real life to warn them about the Daleks.
First things first! Happy (belated) Birthday!
I was going to wish you happy birthday on the 3rd! But I didn't get a chance to :(
Oh phew! I was certain you had died! XD
Nah, I assumed you were just busy. That sort of stuff happens!
That must be tough, I hope all goes well with preparing for your exam. I didn't realize you wanted to be a teacher, that's awesome! What sort of teaching?
Though I'm not nearly as busy as you are at this moment, I do have times where I don't log on to MAL for over a week, which I find quite strange since I used to be on here almost every day! That was back when I had more free time, though. So I'm not as good at reply on-time as I used to be!
I read the first chapter of the Sherlock manga. And you are correct. It is basically word-for-word of what happened in the show. The only thing that was different was the fact that it was manga-style, and there were times that I couldn't help but laugh a bit at the occasional distorted facial expressions. It was almost as though they were going for a 'realistic manga' style.
I am hoping that the future chapters change and become it's own separate story. Maybe add a few more unique elements into the plot. Because...like you said, if they are just copying everything from the show then it seems like it's a complete waste of time!
Haha! Right!? Who on earth watched that bit of animation and thought it was acceptable!? I wonder that quite often with many shows in general, whether it's anime/cartoon or even live-action shows. They could hire just about anyone in the world to say “that is awful. Were you drunk when you made that!?”
Ah yes! You definitely need to watch the new DW episodes!
I quite enjoyed them (I won't give away any spoilers of course!) but what really irritates me is that the fans never seem happy whatsoever.
As you probably know, one of the episodes is called “Dinosaurs on a Spaceship” and you can imagine what is included in that episode. Yes, dinosaurs! And I went to a forum online after the episode aired. I mean, it wasn't the BEST episode I had ever seen but I enjoyed it! And sure, it's the fan's problem if they didn't like the writing or the pacing of the episode...but honestly the #1 complaint I heard from people was “those dinosaurs looked fake!” “the dinosaurs weren't realistic!”...Well no-duh! It's not as though they can hire some real dinosaurs to come on set! And also, the dinosaurs weren't even bad! Haha, though at the time it was shortly after I had watched “Invasion of the Dinosaurs” from Jon Pertwee's era (which I really enjoyed)! So in my mind I was thinking “holy crap! Look at how much the CGI has improved since the 70's!”
Oh, now I'm a bit excited to see how Neon Genesis Evangelion ends! There's only been a few animes in the past that I watched and thought “what...what just happened?”
That's sort of how I felt by the end of Black Rock Shooter (TV)...well, not so much “what just happened?” but more along the lines of “...why would the creator choose to do this? They're making it worse!”
I didn't realize that the writer was depressed when they wrote it, that's sad.
Once my schedule settles down again I'll have to work on catching up / finishing Neon Genesis. Gah! I keep telling myself this, but never seen to get around to it!
I hope your workload doesn't overwhelm you!
Don't worry about taking time to reply XD I'm just glad you're alright!
And once again, Happy Birthday! :D
Hey, Threepwood!
It's been over a month since you've been on MAL. Just struck me as odd since, in the past, you visited every few days or week at least.
I waited a little while to make a comment about it because a week or 2 of being absent is normal for everyone, whether it has to do with work or school or just normal life in general xD
Hope everything's alright and that you're just busy with other things.
Look forward to hearing from you again!
Oh my god, what!? Sherlock is getting a manga!? YES! I hope it turns out great! That would really be sad if it ended up being terrible T-T It would be interesting to see it turn into an anime as well! Has there been any Sherlock Holmes anime? From doing a quick search I didn't find any immediate “Sherlock Holmes” anime, but I'm sure there has been some that are inspired by Sherlock Holmes. Such as Detective Conan, since they mention Sherlock Holmes all the time XD
I would absolutely love to see Doctor Who become a manga! I think that COULD be really awesome if the right person gets their hands on it.
I think, or at least a part of me hopes, that after some time all uber Bleach-fans more or less start to dislike it or get sick of it. I know it took me quite a while to get to that point actually...from prolonged exposure to other better written manga / anime, haha!
I was explaining to my friend that, in my opinion, at this point there is almost no way for Tite Kubo to “save” Bleach, or rather make it exciting again. There are very few things he is willing to do that would surprise the audience. Everything Ichigo does is so obvious and unoriginal!
Oh my god. I would strongly advise you not to check out the Naruto fillers XD But if you really want to, I can only wish you the best of luck!
I think if I had watched those filler episodes with friends it would have been a great laugh and we would have had an awesome time, just like with any horrible movie or show. It's great to make fun of! But if you're watching it alone...honestly each episode feels like it's 2 hours long. I think I paused each episode about 20 times just to say “okay, time to check my email...and get a snack...and maybe watch something else!” and then an hour later I would watch another 5 minutes of it and take another break.
I honestly would love to meet the people in charge of those fillers...just to see if they were right in the head. Nobody on planet earth (other than little kids who enjoy almost anything) could possibly watch all of those and think “damn, this is awesome!”
But honestly, not including fillers. The most “what the hell” moment of Naruto ever has to be from Naruto Shippuuden, when Naruto fights Pain (I think the correct spelling is “Pein” but it adds to the hilarity of the sentence when talking about the fight between them and calling him Pain). Have you seen it before? I think THAT fight should be legendary!
It started out pretty awesome, the final 'showdown' between Naruto and Pain which was going to be epic! At least we all thought it would be. But it ended up turning into the fight that made me laugh so hard I think I ended up choking on my on spit.
The only explanation I can come up with is that the animators went on strike and left the animating to 10 year olds.
Every movement was just painful and hilarious to watch. They looked like they all had no bones in their body. At one point Pain gets punched in the face and his skin LITERALLY ripples like water. Obviously he has no skull in his head to prevent his face from becoming rubber.
Oh my god, yes! I looked it up and someone had made a .gif of it!
and then of course there's this lovely image I found along with it!
That is one fight that I would encourage in the universe to watch...and I'd love to hear the actual reason behind this atrocious failure of a battle!
Yes! I thought the same thing when going from Series 4 to 5. And actually I just kept watching the episode for a bit because my first thought was “well, I guess everything will be explained later”. But it wasn't even mentioned and that's when I realized I must have missed something.
XDDD I love the Bohemian Rhapsody reference though! I wish my mind worked more like that because it would be much more entertaining!
I had actually watched the episode “Dalek” a few days ago, and it reminded me that there are times when the Daleks have more meaning than just being pests! That may have been one of the only times in DW that I actually felt bad for a Dalek, lol!
I'm really glad Moffat's era hasn't overdone it with the Daleks, but I sincerely hope he brings them back again in some way.
I definitely thought it was odd that Oswin was able to last that long in the middle of a Dalek asylum, but I guess I didn't suspect anything. I just thought “well alright then! Doctor Who logic!”
That's why I think Moffat did a great job with dropping hints along the way, but making it subtle enough that I didn't think too hard about it. But then when everything is revealed I have that “Oooh! That makes more sense!” moment.
I was trying to think of all the ways that Oswin could be the Doctor's companion and then have her fate lead up to that point in the Dalek Asylum. But then I was thinking...she said her name was “Oswin Oswald”...strange name, yes. But we know that his new companion's name is “Oswin Clara”. So that's why I'm thinking that they're not the same person. But I don't know! That's why this is so fun! Speculating!
Haha, I accepted the reasons from Amy and Rory, that Amy gave him up because she couldn't have kids, because it was better than any other explanation I could come up with. But yes, that definitely occurred to me: they could easily adopt a child and raise it as if it were their own. But maybe for her, the idea of not being able to have any more children was the most heartbreaking thing in the world. I thought it was strange that they didn't once bring up Melody / River. They didn't get to raise her as their own child obviously...but she's still their daughter!
Um...does Evangelion get incredible “messed up” later? Haha, when you say that I'm thinking along the lines of “things get so incredibly muddled and complicated that it doesn't make sense by the end”. Some shows do that and they don't always end up great. I hope Evangelion doesn't end terribly!
“...he knew that his rival had the ability to steal, or at least cancel, his Bankai. And yet he used it anyway.”
EXACTLY! Renji was about to do the exact same thing actually, after he WATCHED Byakuya's bankai stolen from him and his reason was something along the lines of “but without our Bankai's how can we defeat them?” That's some solid logic right there! Way to go, Renji! XP
My friends find it amusing that I was such a Bleach-fanboy (I say fanboy because saying fangirl, to me, means I just drooled over the male characters whenever they took their shirt off...honestly they're not that attractive! Plus they're drawings!) and now whenever I talk about Bleach I mainly just criticize it. I don't know at what point I started transitioning from “Bleach is pretty awesome...except the story is not great” to “Bleach is fun if you don't care about plot or characters and only want to watch muscled men slice each other up”.
Bleach was the first of the Big 3 that I started. My friend had started watching it, had gotten through the first 8 episodes and said that it was better than he thought it would be. So I started it soon after and was hooked pretty quickly.
Naruto was the second of the Big 3 I started (though much later after Bleach), because a friend of mine said it was pretty awesome! But she did say that the beginning wasn't that amazing. When I started watching it (this was back before I even read any manga, so I was only watching animes) I honestly could not stand Naruto, haha! He was just an annoying little bastard! But even though I never became a Narutard (I think that's what Naruto fans call themselves...though that seems just rude) I eventually started to enjoy it enough to watch the whole thing...but the fillers killed me! Honestly I wanted to jump out a window by the end of “Naruto” because the fillers were just crap!
Lol! I remember starting One Piece! And I started with the general reaction of “...this is a bit weird” because it's just not what I was used to! But before too long I was telling my friends “it's weird...but for some reason I can't stop watching it!”
It was One Piece that turned me into a person that “never drops anime”, because if I had dropped the show at the beginning like I had thought about doing...well I would have missed out on my favorite anime!
Ooh! Even if it's just rumors that would be awesome if they had specials for Doctor Who after Series 7! Then it wouldn't have to conflict with the story entirely.
Though I really don't like that David Tennant's Specials are not considered episodes, since it is a major part of the story! When I was watching Doctor Who on netflix, they didn't include the specials because they weren't “episodes”, you can imagine how freaking lost I was at the beginning of Series 5.
But anyway, if they made specials that were entirely outside of the regular DW plot-line, then that would work fine for the show, right? The writers wouldn't have to force it into the story or anything like that.
Really? A live episode? Why!?
I mean...that could be awesome...maybe XD
I hope they don't do that!
Haha, speaking of making Daleks scary...
In the rare event that you haven't watched Asylum of the Daleks, just ignore the rest of this bit until you have. But I really doubt that's the case. Still, I'll put it under spoiler.
Asylum of the Daleks, in my honest opinion, was one of the better Dalek stories we've had in NuWho. And I think Moffat actually did a great job of setting up the story really well and did in fact make the Daleks seem threatening. Specifically the part when the Doctor gets cornered by a number of them, I'll admit I got pretty damn nervous there!
And I really loved the plot twist at the end with Oswin...I'm really not that smart, so I didn't see that coming at all. Watching the episode a second time, I noticed all the times that the Doctor was dropping hints such as “where did you get the milk?”, I just really didn't think about it much the first time.
But anyway. I really loved the start of Series 7 with the Daleks! And I'm curious how they will continue since Oswin wiped all their memories.
And we know that Clara (Oswin) will be the Doctor's companion later this season...I have no idea how Moffat plans on explaining this.
I really hope it isn't like with Martha. In series 2 they had the actress Freema Agyeman play Adeola that worked for Torchwood. And when Martha showed up as his companion they just explained it off in a few seconds by saying Adeola was Martha's cousin. Ha! Yeah right, more like twins separated at birth or clones! XD They could have done something really fun with that actually!
Anyway! I liked Oswin. If it is the same girl as his future companion, I think she will be the first of his companions to actually have a knowledge of the universe and is incredibly clever and intelligent.
Unless of course in the Classic-Who they had a companion who was also very intelligent, but that I haven't gotten to yet.
Yes, I did watch the Pond Life mini-episodes. The first 4 were all very fun! And then 5 came along and bam! What the hell! My first thought was of course “Rory waited for 2000 years for her! There is no way those two just fought and broke up like that!”
Oh, I guess this part goes under spoiler tags too.
I'm glad they were able to settle things in Asylum of the Daleks though. I would have been pretty upset if those two got divorced. Moffat did have me going there for a bit, though!
There are several things in Doctor Who wiki that they talk about which aren't canon...and if they aren't canon I sort of just ignore that they exist. Because sometimes it makes the story even more complicated than it needs to be!
Like the fact that, I think it may have been in the movie or something (not sure about that), that the Doctor says his mother is human...well that was quite a bomb to drop! There is no way that makes sense! In the canon-story, humans weren't allowed on Gallifrey and Time-Lords had a strict rule not to interfere with anything, which I assume includes going to Earth and getting a woman pregnant!
Never had the Doctor before mentioned being half-human, which seems like it would come up at one point!
And then in The End of Time, “The Woman” was up for speculation from the audience as to who she was...but I think I remember reading somewhere that the writers had intended for her to be the Doctor's mother and even the actress was told she would be playing the Doctor's mother. And she was definitely not human.
Oh, I am also very bad at dancing. Seriously, very bad XD the amount of practice it would take to be as good as those guys at dancing...wow! It's very impressive!
When I heard the Evangelion theme, it reminded me that I need to finish watching Evangelion! I had started it a little while back, I really enjoy it so far! But I didn't get all that far into it, haha! I need to go do that! Well since I have a few hours of free time today, I think I'll do just that!
I had finally caught up on the Bleach chapters.
You're right. I don't buy it either. Byakuya being dead I mean.
From Bleach in the past, it takes a hell of a lot more damage to kill someone! Even if someone got their head cut clean off from their shoulders I'd be skeptical, haha! All that happened was, some quincy guy stole Byakuya's bankai and used it against him. So Byakuya “died” from his own Bankai. Not only would Byakuya feel so humiliated by that fact that I think he would rise from the grave just to get revenge, I also just think that it wasn't enough to kill him. It wasn't dramatic enough. If he IS dead, that would be the most anticlimactic death in the history of manga.
The one I'D be worried about is Kira (that dude with strange blonde hair that covers half his face), he got about 80% of his torso blown off, leaving a giant flipping hole in his stomach! Yet nobody gave a crap about him XD everyone is all just mourning Byakuya who is most certainly still alive.
If they had ended Bleach after the first big arc where they rescued Rukia, I am sure people would be more happy. Some authors need to know when to stop. If the popularity is high, they keep writing just to please their fans even when they've run out of ideas. But, in my opinion, some of the best writers are the ones that had an idea, wrote it, and stuck to that.
The ones that come to mind, for me, are Fullmetal Alchemist (manga) and Death Note. Both are huge hits in Japan and around the world. Both told their story and ended quite nicely.
I have no doubt that Fullmetal Alchemist COULD have continued and I'm sure the mangaka had some more ideas for the characters, and even I was upset when it ended but when I think about it, I am so glad they didn't turn it into an incredibly long-running manga because then all of the events in it would have felt more meaningless.
When you say 'docudrama' I immediately think of something along the lines of History Channel recreating past events with actors!
I think everyone is expecting a multi-doctor story, so if they don't do anything like that many fans will be pretty angry!
Hm...what if...they did a series-long anniversary!! Have those 6 Doctors in for the entire 8th series!! XD I don't think that would be possible actually, but then we'd get a TON of time with each Doctor! So each Doctor could have plenty of time to be there!
Oh jeez, that's what I've been most looking forward to if there IS going to be a multi-doctor story! Is to see them all bicker and poke fun at each other! It would be interesting to see how previous Doctors behave toward their somewhat childish, bow-tie wearing current-self!
My friend and I were talking about what could possibly be this new monster that Moffat warned us will scare everyone!
We jokingly made fun of the fact that Daleks are meant to be menacing and terrifying creatures but are really more of a nuisance than anything else. But then he and I both agreed that if Moffat REALLY wanted to he could probably make the Daleks seem more terrifying than any of the other writers could. I'm hoping that the first episode of series 7 “Asylum of the Daleks” proves to be an exciting episode with Daleks.
Yeah! When you mentioned legends of boats disappearing it reminded me! I have always thought that they should make a Doctor Who episode about the Bermuda Triangle. All those disappearances! They've GOT to be caused by aliens!! XD Unless of course they've already made an episode about that in the Classic series that I haven't gotten to yet.
The video on your profile right now is awesome!! Damn, they're good at dancing, I'm jealous! And I love that song, too!
Haha! Don't worry about it, that's happened to me before. But what was even better when I rewrote my message to the person the next day and commented, I checked again later to see if it had been posted correctly only to find both of the posts there. Which, I suppose it could have just been an incredibly delayed first comment (24 hours delayed) or MAL was just finding ways to mess with me! So I ended up rewriting the comment for nothing! XD
That's a good point...how did the villains become stronger while dead? Or did the main characters just...not get any stronger whatsoever?
That's so typical of shounen animes, haha! Having everyone who died NOT stay dead!
Recently in Bleach (spoilers...not that it's a big deal lol) apparently Byakuya died. I haven't been completely keeping up with the chapters so when I heard about that from people I thought “...is he REALLY dead? Because I'm pretty damn sure that this same situation has happened about 500 times before now.” I'll have to decide for myself whether I think Byakuya is dead or not when I get around to catching up on the manga.
I would almost have to applaud Kubo if he did finally kill off a semi-main character. Haha! Maybe Kubo is actually incredibly clingy to his characters and it's too painful for him to let them go! Sorry, I just had a brief moment where I visualized Tite Kubo weeping in his chair for the death of his character, so to make himself happy he brings them back magically!
Okay I'm just being mean to Kubo now XD I apologize!
Concerning the DW 50th anniversary in case you hadn't seen this on BBC News!! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-19192040
To ME it sounds almost like...they're going to have a giant montage of clips from Classic Who leading up until now. But maybe I'm wrong, they did say at the end of that short article that casting will be confirmed next year, so that implies that there will be some new acting involved?
I don't know! But 90 minutes seems too short to me! Maybe I'm just being greedy XD But I was hoping for possibly at least a 3-part episode (with of course, as many Doctors involved as possible) because then it won't be as rushed and it would give enough screen time for each Doctor to have their time to shine! If you have multiple Doctors in one thing I feel like they should each have the time to be the center of attention! Especially if we start bringing in the old Doctors! For the NuWhovians who didn't watch any of the old series, they should have the time to get to know these older Doctors at least a little bit!
But again, maybe I'm hoping for too much! Your thoughts!?
Oh jeez. If Steven Moffat plans on doing doing all of our common fears, I'd hate to think what else he will do! Haha, my friend follows his stuff on twitter (I don't use twitter so...I only know about these things from friends) and a little while ago he had tweeted “See this new monster I've invented? This is a GOOD one. This will SCARE you. Oh yes.” Oh, Moffat!
I would actually enjoy seeing him make a scary fear-driven episode based on water. He could remake or create a creature based on the Sea Devils or something! Sea-creatures and deep-waters are terrifying (in my opinion) because we are completely useless in water and really can't do anything!
And they haven't done any water episodes yet in NuWho have they? They will need to eventually!
Thank you! I am feeling better, not wonderful though. It's my 3rd week being sick now xD I have only been able to leave my house once this whole time, which really sucks. I had plans of going on vacation for 10 days, but that has now been canceled due to my current health. But that's alright, I'll just have to make the best of it! :D
I think the worst part of the whole “bring every single villain back to life” is that they STILL have trouble defeating them! It's been quite a long time since they sent those bad guys to their graves, the heroes should be at least 10x stronger now...they should be able to fight them off easily! But no, that would be too quick! Even in the manga I feel like the fights are being dragged out, god knows how long the anime will drag out each fight!
Haha! When I first started watching the Three Doctors, I guess my first thought would be that he would respect his previous incarnation, sort of like meeting up with an old friend. But nope! Pretty sure the first things they say to each other are insults! Maybe they think of each other more like siblings? Always finding new insults and sometimes mean things to say, but never really meaning them? Not sure! But it's amusing nonetheless!
I remember seeing an interview with Matt Smith a while back; and if I remember correctly, after he was told he was going to play the role of the Doctor he had to lie to everyone and come up with excuses because he wasn't allowed to tell anyone that he was the new Doctor. I'd like to think that the people who will appear in the supposed 50th anniversary special, episode, movie (or anything else) HAVE been contacted and are just denying it because they can't make it public. That's what I'd like to think rather than “oh my god, nobody has been hired yet? What the hell? Is this anniversary even happening?”
I heard (from a rather unreliable source so don't quote me on this) that Tom Baker has already said he will be appearing for the 50th anniversary. So I would be very excited to see him! And they did have that short special with David and Peter Davison a while back, so (to me) it seems as though Peter is still interested in playing the role of Doctor and appearing on the show. But I haven't heard any news regarding the other Doctors returning. I can only imagine David Tennant will be one of the stars in it; I can't imagine he would decline the offer.
Oh, well when you explain the Silence and Weeping Angels like that it sounds even scarier! XD
I'm going to be thinking of that now whenever I walk downstairs and go “wait...what did I come down here for?” Haha!
I would pay to watch some kind of crossover between Super Mario and DW! That would definitely make my life complete in some weird way! XD
Oh dear god xD That Tick Tock DW video just made my day! I've heard parodies of Tick Tock but I do have to say that is probably the best one I've heard!
Sorry about the extremely late reply! I got really sick recently and haven't had much chance to get on the computer. XD Some respiratory infection or something, but I should be feeling better within the next 2 weeks! :D
Lol, that's true, if the cookie jar just kept going deeper everything would be out of reach! I wonder that too with the Doctor's pockets, which he says are bigger on the inside, does he lose stuff often? It would be like digging through an old woman's purse, you can't find anything in that mess!
Yes! That's so true! The bad guy (pretending to be good) will always save the main character from certain death or something and then later turn on them. If they really wanted him dead...just leave him to die in the first place! Unless they have some master plan of watching them suffer before death! Or they need them for some really odd reason...
Haha, not many writers take children from their series and turn them into drug addicts! Oda has definitely made a situation where I think its required to hate the bad guys who have done this! That's just cruel! And very creepy too.
With all the characters that will show up in the future, I hope it isn't like what Kishimoto did with Naruto and have ALL the bad guys (dead and alive) show up all at once! When they resurrected every single villain from the series I thought “are you freaking kidding me? You've spent hundreds of chapters killing these guys and now you bring them ALL back!?” That to me is the ultimate 'I need to drag this series out longer'. Not to completely hate on Kishimoto or anything...but that was not a smart move in my opinion xD
XD I would LOVE to see a “twenty two Doctors” story, especially with soccer lol I love that idea! You're a genius!! I just watched my first multi-doctor story the other day! 'The Three Doctors' from season 10. I thought them all interacting with each other and insulting each other was hilarious haha! I also loved seeing the old Doctors. But anyway, back to the point xD I'm sure he would end up running into himself if he came to that many hundred incarnations. Lol, or he would just become extremely limited in where he could go!
Haha, I too have a difficult time picking which monster or enemy is my favorite.
I don't know if they're my favorite...but I really like the Silence because the idea of them is really interesting. The fact that you can't remember them makes them a very tough enemy to fight and I really like that about them, so the Doctor and companions have to get very clever when it comes to facing them. So I really enjoy the Silence!
Next to them I'd say the Weeping Angels also intrigue me! Like the Silence you can't exactly run away from them because if you turn your back...bad things happen xD Moffat obviously really liked the idea of them NOT being able to turn away from their enemies...I also love that the Weeping Angels remind me of the Boo ghosts from Super Mario, haha!
But aside from monsters, one of my favorite enemies is most likely the Master (because I always love the arch-enemy character, like the Joker in Batman and such), but then again...when I think about it he's one of the only significant enemies in DW I've seen so far that /isn't/ a monster-creature-thing. Haha, the only Masters I've seen are Roger Delgado and John Simm, I haven't yet gotten to the other Masters so I can't decide if I like them yet! XD
The funny thing is, on the website where my parents apparently bought it, the cookie jar has all the details and one part even says “not bigger on the inside”. I honestly couldn't tell if that was meant to be a joke or not XD I'm sure somebody out there was incredibly upset by the fact that their cookie jar wasn't larger on the inside! Imagine all the cookies you could hold!!
Haha, I completely understand why that is your least favorite way of characters being introduced. Having the new guy completely 'pwn' is pretty much the definition of every Bleach villain, lol. For villains, that would probably be in my top 5 least favorite ways of introducing a villain...I'd say one of my least favorite ways that writers introduce villains would be when they have a random character show up and claim to be an ally and then later we “find out” that they are actually the bad guy...I mean, we ALL knew they were bad the moment they stepped onto the screen! There are times where writers have the 'good guys' turn out to be 'bad guys' and I'm okay with it, especially if it was written well enough that they convinced me they were a good guy.
My least favorite way of introducing characters in general would be the common shounen or shoujo approach: “Class! We have a new student! (Insert name here), why don't you go sit at the conveniently empty desk right next to our story's main character!”
Caeser Clown reminds me of an evolved form of Caribou xD And I'm not even sure why, actually. Concerning Caeser though, I have high hopes for him so far. Actually, any character that appears on One Piece I generally have high expectations and am always wanting them to be fun or exciting characters. Since he in some ways resembles Magellan's personality, and seems to be even stronger than Magellan, I'm hoping he will end up being a good challenge for the Straw Hats to defeat.
Haha! At this point though, the Straw Hats have a LOT of enemies they still need to beat! Luffy made quite a few enemies at Marineford, dunno if they'll end up fighting all of them later on, but who knows?
That theory of growing a second heart actually makes sense xD I enjoy people coming up with logical explanations like that!
There are times though that I don't think anyone can or even tries to apply logic to the show. Like with the 13 lives part...I guess some people think he has infinite lives now because all the other time lords are gone. But RTD pretty much went “lol, nah, he has 507 lives!” Explain that, Russell!! Where did that number come from!? XD
Random question! Which monster or enemy is your favorite in DW?
Oh, well Doctor Who is very obscure around here too. There is nowhere nearby to buy any DW related franchise; my friends had to order it online and have it shipped here. I guess my parents had picked up on my latest interests and also got me DW things (I assume they called my friends and asked them what to get me...), which of course they also had to order online. Just a T-shirt with a Tardis on it and then this thing (I would take a picture of it and show it here, but it's easier to just find it on google)
I have no idea what to do with it xD it's about 11 inches tall, so it's fairly small. But it has no real use other than to look pretty, haha! It's actually a cookie jar. The top opens and everything, but it scared the crap out of me when I first opened it, because when it's opened it makes the Tardis noise, which is quite terrifying when you're not expecting it!
Oh I didn't even think of that. You're right, we haven't seen Law's crew at all! >_< I'm so slow to pick up on details. That would make sense though, if something did happen to them he might seek out help from his 'friends', I know Luffy considers Law a friend but I'm not quite sure if the feeling is mutual.
Well...turns out it wasn't Vegapunk xD that's a bit of a letdown. Who the heck is this Welgo? Whoever he is...he seems like a jerk. That's all the opinion I have of him so far, lol, just that he's a jerk.
All the Strawhat crew and Law seem to be in a bit of a pinch at the moment though. Things are picking up though! I'm excited for the new chapters! We're finally starting to meet the new enemies. That new guy Caeser Clown seems pretty dangerous. When he first revealed that his ability was poison gas I immediately thought “Oh haha! Luffy is immune to poison!” Turns out Luffy has the same idea earlier...maybe he's not as immune as he thought.
That's true, it would be quite annoying to be writing for Doctor Who and have to know ALL of the history of the show. Though it definitely seems like they have a good knowledge of its history. And with things that aren't always consistent, the fans often manage to come up with some explanation for it, not always logical explanations but they usually manage /something/.
Seriously!? He sabotaged the show? Wow, that's crazy! And childish. Haha! I can't help but feel like that's such a childish way to take out his anger on a show he doesn't like. I hope he got fired eventually XD that's just ridiculous.
Lol! I didn't even think of that. It's probably true! Other worlds were probably just getting slaughtered because of the Doctor's absence. But also, without the Doctor being on earth I'm sure it would have been invaded at least 50 times by now if he hadn't been there.
I'll admit, that bit of dialogue you wrote had me laugh pretty damn hard XDDD but it's also true! If he had accepted his offer...that would have caused more trouble just to save him!
With enemies like Davros I feel like their 'level of threat' decreases quite a bit when they have to wheel themselves around in a half-Dalek-mobile. We only saw him the one time in NuWho though, I haven't gotten to him yet in the classic-series, so maybe he will seem more threatening then.
Thanks so much for wishing me a happy birthday! :D
Highlight of my birthday is the fact that my friends got me a sonic screwdriver xD
(In response to your other message)
Oh don't worry about taking time to reply! I sometimes reply about a week late. Though that was mostly during the school quarter.
I'd really like to think that Law wants to form an alliance...just to form an alliance; become a stronger group against their foes and what-not. But I also can't shake the feeling that something else is going on. But maybe that's just because in most mangas / animes that I know of, whenever an alliance is formed...it never ends up well. So I can't tell if I'm actually getting the right idea, or if anime and manga has just convinced me to believe that alliances can never be formed. The “No honour among thieves” idea.
Ooh I would love if it was Dr. Vegapunk! I can't think of who else it could be... unless of course it's a character we know. I even took the time to stare at the mysterious-man's shoe for a minute to see if I could identify him from that XD didn't work at all. I have no clue who it could be (from previous character's we've met).
That's what's great about the mangas compared to anime (for scenes like this). There's a bit more suspense when it comes to revealing characters. In the anime, if it IS someone we've met before, it's much easier to tell because we can hear them speaking, and their voice actor is what will give it away before we see them. Haha!
I'm really hoping the third Iron Man movie is great! Right now, after the Avengers, the creators have a pretty high bar set for themselves. So it would really suck if they had an awful movie. I'm not sure what to think of it at this point...there hasn't really been anything released. BUT thanks to Reddit and Imgur, people have posted some pictures from the film set of the movie. With Tony's extremely patriotic suit of armor! XD It's like Iron Man and Captain America merged to become Iron America! I don't know if you've seen the picture yet. Me and all my friends have come across it at some point XD
I can't help but laugh a bit at the outfit...Me being an american that points and laughs at extreme patriotism... I don't think that's what they were going for with this new outfit, but still... It's a bit amusing.
With the first Doctor, I am most certain that the writers didn't think the show would become this ongoing sci-fi hit! They have several things in the beginning that are definitely inconsistent with the later story. Such as, I remember in the very first episode (or second episode...one of the two) that Susan told Ian and Barbara that SHE named the Tardis, but we know from later on that all the Time Lords with a Tardis call them 'Tardis'. And then later, it is implied that the Doctor only has 1 heart. The Doctor and Susan say they're from a different planet, but that's really about it, nothing special there. I think the writers later on just decided to forget about those details and hoped that the audience would forget about it too so they could develop the story more. Which is fine with me! Lol.
Oh that sucks! I haven't gotten to the 6th Doctor's era yet, but I'll take your word for it XD Always sad when that happens, bad writers take over a really great story and ruins things a bit.
This is true, I have yet to come across a Doctor that I hated. Though I've only seen 1, 2, (still on) 3, and then of course 9 through 11.
I am really loving the 3rd Doctor! A lot! He has some of the best lines and moments I've seen of the Doctors so far! Though I can't say that for sure, since there's probably plenty of things to look forward to still! At this point, he is still in exile on earth, and at first I thought it was a bit disappointing because I loved seeing the Doctor go through time and space. But have actually found myself to really enjoy how 'limited' he is at the moment. He has to be more clever with solving problems. And we actually get to see a lot of his intelligence that isn't always shown other times. Especially in NuWho where they usually solve problems by running xD which isn't bad at all! I don't mean to sound like I'm insulting it. But seeing the Doctor actually sit down, think and work out problems is really interesting! Right now I'm thinking of the Silurian episodes, where the Doctor actually spent a great deal of time sitting in a lab and using his knowledge of science to create a cure for the virus that the Silurians had sent out into the world.
When watching the “School Reunion” episode from NuWho, I obviously hadn't seen the Classic series yet, but was able to quickly figure out that Sarah Jane and K9 were his previous companions. Which, I thought “oh that's cool” but probably didn't find it nearly as exciting as I would if I had watched the Classic series first! XD I'm really looking forward to having Sarah Jane as a companion though. Seems like a lot of people enjoyed having her!
Ah, yes. I really think the Daleks will never be killed off! Sometimes it feels like whenever the writers had no idea what to do for the episode – bring in the Daleks! At one point in the new series, my friend was watching it and the Daleks has supposedly been completely destroyed (as always) and she asked me “are they really gone this time?” to which I replied “yes” as a joke...sadly, she became really excited because she didn't realize I was joking...saying “Oh thank god! They were getting a bit annoying sometimes!” I didn't have the heart to tell her the truth, so I let her find out for herself about 3 episodes later when they showed up again XD
Sorry about rambling! I tend to do that quite a bit!
Sorry about the late reply! I had a pretty busy week. It's my last week of this school quarter, so I had a few finals and other stuff I had to take care of. In fact tomorrow is my last day of this quarter 8O oh wow! I hadn't really thought of that! Daaang! I'm almost done for the quarter! Awesome! XD
Just recently caught up on One Piece. I had fallen behind a few weeks xD
Wasn't expecting Law to offer an alliance with Luffy.
They all got their bodies back xD I'll admit it was amusing to have them all switch for a while, but I'm also glad they didn't stay like that for too long. Even after having them changed for a while and with their 'faces' on their head I was having a bit of trouble thinking of their person in a different body...if that makes any sense.
I chose probably the worst time to read all the new chapters. Haha! Recent chapter ended on a bit of a cliffhanger and One Piece is going on break next week! Damn my horrible timing!
But anyway, concerning Black Widow and Hawkeye!
Yeah, Black Widow definitely had more of a role in the movies leading up to the avengers, in Iron Man 2. But maybe, to me, that didn't feel like enough because in all honesty I didn't really /love/ the 2nd movie...at least not nearly as much as the first. It would have been a cool enough movie except that the bad guy (Ivan Vanko) had quite possibly one of the most boring 'final battles' of any villain, in my opinion. I think his battle with Tony and Rhodey at the end lasted literally about 2 minutes. Maybe that's just me though. I'm a bit picky about movies and their pacing. When the movie has a great build-up and then a really, really fast ending I get a bit disappointed with the creators / their editing because then I feel like they wasted too much time getting me excited for something that just fell apart at the end xD
I barely even remember Hawkeye in Thor! When the trailers for the Avengers first came out and I saw him, me and my friends all thought out loud “who is that guy? ...I recognize him I think...” I haven't seen Thor in a while though, and I only watched it the one time. I should probably watch it again, lol.
Oh! I didn't realize that Matt Smith's favorite Doctor was the second. That makes sense though!
I actually found that I really enjoyed 2, it almost felt like a relief after the first doctor. Not to hate on the first Doctor at all! But he was, at times, a bit too grouchy and stern, especially when he was being protective. So once 2 came along, he seemed much more carefree and actually had some very amusing parts! The other day I managed to finish the episodes with 2 and have now gotten to the third Doctor, John Pertwee. I haven't gotten far yet with his era since, like I mentioned, I've been busy with school XD But I've finished his first season (season 7). And already I had some nerd-excited moments when I realize that there are several things in the NuWho series that are directly related to this older series.
By that I mean I watched the episodes from season 7 “Doctor Who and the Silurians” which I got very excited because in the new series he met a group of Silurians. And then I remembered the Doctor actually telling them in the new series that he met a tribe of them before.
Same with the small white box from Patrick Troughton's time, in his very last episode he created a small white box which was used to send a message to the Time Lords and I immediately thought of the white box the Doctor received as a distress signal in “The Doctor's Wife”. I guess they're called 'Hypercubes'.
Haha, sorry, ranting. I tell my friends all of this and I know from the way they respond they find it all very, very uninteresting xD
