Hey there, Doc (and Hats, who seem to be a regular haunt of this joint)! I just (finally!) watched Penguindrum; what a ride! It made me nostalgic for the good ol' times at the CAA with all the regulars, discussing art, symbolism and deeper meaning in anime. Hope all is well with you guys.

If you get a chance to be on, message me somehow if we can Skype over Thanksgiving.

HatandClogs | 10-21-14, 3:46 PM
Alright, awesome! Sorry if I seemed like I was being snappy or whatever, and I hope you're okay now! Just get back to me whenever works for you.

I actually have a friend here who is super into HxH and since I have quit League as of Sunday (which is about 75% of what I used to do at his place, with the rest being anime lel) I'll use that as a way to keep hanging out with him (and another friend, both of them are from the dorms last year).

That's awesome! 7 (or Blazing Blade or Rekka no Ken or Fire Emblem or whatever) is always in contention with Path of Radiance for my favorite FE, it's soooooo good but I love it so much. To counter your nice news, I have been slowly working my way through FFX and it is as good as I remember it being, except now that it's on my copy I'll be able to get more than halfway through before being torn away from it because of that dumb thing called finals.

Also わたしはにほんごをべんきょうします!

I'll keep it shorter this time to ask, do you want to hang out to chat for a bit some time?

HatandClogs | 09-29-14, 10:59 PM
Hey buddy, nine years after Gatchaman Crowds I actually finished an anime. Whoooooo. It was really really good, I haven't gotten that kind of enjoyment out of a show since, well, Gatchaman Crowds. Watching it and White Collar shows me really well that anime is definitely a special form for entertainment that satisfies a part of me that I can't go anywhere else for (well, except Persona 4 lol). Really fun stuff mang. Once I would have wanted to blog about it but college and especially church have sapped my time away in such a manner that I don't think I would ever finish it lol.

I kind of want to start something else but I don't know if I'm in the mood for cutesy romance, shonen fighting, or robots. I'm not sure I've ever had this dilemma before. I also don't know any good shonen fighting that's come out recently that is short enough, but I would hand my firstborn over to someone who could provide me with a modern show like AoEx or Soul Eater.

Oh btw do you want to get together for a Skype chat sometime soon? It's been almost a year since our last one and I've changed so radically that I kind of want to have a chat with you to see what it's like, I mean, I've literally had several life-changing experiences over the past year and I guess I just want to look at you as a bit more of an equal than as your kohai :P Also I want to see what's been up in your world for like the past year, I've like barely heard from you at all (which is primarily my fault anyways)

I just poke around to check things when I'm killing time on the interwebs, though lol I didn't realize I hadn't watched anything in like ten days lol.

HatandClogs | 08-30-14, 12:48 AM
It's alright.

HatandClogs | 08-28-14, 9:18 AM
lol I think we both remembered anime is a thing that exists at exactly the same time.

HatandClogs | 05-19-14, 11:24 AM
They weren't too bad! Just finished Thursday and got back yesterday (we stayed for my sister-in-law's graduation which was fun (well, sans the actual ceremony) but exhausting). Maybe I'll even watch some animus, who knows? I really meant to stay on the Haikyuu train but I think some big stuff was happening in my life around that time and I forgot about volleyball greatness.

Pxi2 | 05-09-14, 4:18 PM
Are you a girl?

HatandClogs | 04-12-14, 12:17 AM
I have a few friends who're in the process of finishing Kuroko and I convinced them that we needed to watch Haikyuu, which was super awesome.

Yeah, Ultimate's definitely an alright show I assume would be totally up your alley since you're so into Black Lagoon already that I assume the fairly static action wouldn't be an issue for you. I should warn you that it's probably the most violent thing I've seen? idk if it would bother you but I guess it would be nice for everyone to be informed that there's a part where you see a vampire chomping on a dead baby, which was fairly shocking and gross.

Aside from the "everyone's stuck in a video game D :" part of Log Horizon, it's not really anything like SAO at all. SAO was all about having very tense survival parts and making everything have big consequences and WE HAVE TO GET OUT OF THE GAME and it felt a lot like a fantasy anime that used video games as a skin. Log Horizon a lot more about "welp, we're here now so what're we gonna do" and it's really neat and I really like all the characters and it's just really fun and I have too much fun watching it. It got me playing FF7 which I'm now almost done with and is a really fun game.

That's interesting that you get that from Break Blade, because I totally didn't get any of that feel but my experience with RPGs with that era is pretty much entirely limited to FF6 (everyone has been nagging me to play Chrono Trigger since I made friends at college though), so I remember mostly being interested in the fantasy parts and then details like troop numbers and things, which were like very tasty treats I got for dealing with the rest of it (she's 12 and has huge boobs, isn't that ~hilarious~?)

What about Nadesico makes you think I'll like it so much in particular?

HatandClogs | 04-02-14, 8:34 AM
It's alright. The action reminds me of Black Lagoon a lot, but with more crazy supepowers (but a similar lack of choreography, Ando has spoiled me so much) and it's pretty freaking crazy (Nazis show up by episode four I think? and now it's a crazy vampire Nazi invasion of London) and has the most hilarious depiction of relations between the Catholic and Protestant churches. The animations alright I guess but it's nothing particularly exciting or woah, no like crazy well-animated sequences and there's a lot of CGI. I'm having fun watching with a friend whose pretty new to anime (this is his third after Black Lagoon and the Mass Effect movie, and I just got him to watch Baccano!) but otherwise I dunno if I'd keep watching it. tbh, maybe I'm a bad person because of this but I really like Log Horizon a lot more, in a legitimate and not "oh it's fantasy so I'll like it" way.

Kaiji is alright so far. I'm not as into it as I expected to be and since, as far as I can see, I just finished the first arc, I was thinking about putting it on hold, but I haven't decided yet.

On the one hand, since it's just been the first arc, I don't really know what to expect next and want to give it a chance. On the other hand though, it's been 9 episodes which is a lot and should be enough for a show to grab a person if it's going to.

MangaRocks | 03-28-14, 6:41 PM
I loved it. :D I mean, there was certainly a bit too much fanservice (and Ragyo's... well, you know) throughout the series for my taste :P , but oh my gosh did I enjoy it regardless. :D Plus, as I mentioned on my post on CAA today about it, I couldn't be happier with that ending! :)
