So I recently finished Konosuba and honestly, I'm not sure what to think about it.
Basically, it's an anime set in a RPG like world with levels and skills and all those geeky terminology that only a handful of people will know. I will give props to the show on it's aesthetics, but comparing the look to the actual content is pretty unfair the way I see it. I say this because honestly, nothing really major happens in the show and each episode feels more like it's own stand alone thing than a chronological series of events.
Nothing issue I had with the anime was
...
the jokes that was kinda it's main selling point. Not saying the jokes were bad, but they did start to get repetitive after sometime making it obvious where the plot of any particular episode was going. This happens because the characters are basically one trick ponies when it comes to personality where at some points I actually forgot their names and actually knew them as "Protagonist", "Useless Goddess", "explosive Witch", and "Masochistic Knight".
I feel like the show does a good job with their comedy, which I won't say is a bad thing, but it kinda just introduces you to a character, shows you their quirks, and have you laugh at them without anything new being added to the character. Sure there may be a conflict or two they face, but by the end of the episode it's almost like it never existed and come next episode it's almost like it completely forgotten that it ever happened.
I can't really fault the show on what it is, because I will admit it's entertaining, but it's nothing I think should be praised as a masterpiece for what it is. Basically, watch it if you want a good laugh, not a good story.

My Hero Academia was an anime that missed it's chance to be a good anime.
It's not like I really wanted to hate it. From the hype it was getting I expected something that would be enjoyable to watch, but unfortunately, it ended up being anything but that which was a huge disappointment. What initially drew me to the show was the superhero theme that the show was suppose to be going for which would've been all well and good had it not been for the characters, the way the plot played out, and most disappointingly the fact that this anime focused way too much on
...
Deku and All Might.
I'm not saying that having them as the main focus is a bad thing, but in the 13 episodes the anime had the other characters basically irrelevant to the point where the only thing that we learn about them are one or two personality trits and what their super power is. This brings up another issue I had with this anime and that is the way the characters were presented.
In all honestly, I found basically every character to be one dimensional cliches of your typical anime characters. Deku was a wimp that wanted to be strong, Bakugo was a jerk with an inferiority complex, and All Might was a Dues Ex Machina hero with super strength. Their traits were so stereotypical that I was able to predict what each of them planned to do in the episodes they were in which made my viewing experience less enjoyable.
Even the so called plot was nothing more than reasons to make Deku looked like a competent hero when really he was just a typical protagonist that wouldn't think before he acted which almost got him killed on multiple occasions. Even in instances where there were less risky solutions he chose the options that no only put his own life in danger, but also left him with more damage than he should've taken because he could'nt control his power which would'nt have even been the case if he actually attempted to trained with his power to avoid all of the unnecessary damage he took which he obviously didn't.
I will say that one thing this anime got correctly was that it wasn't trying to be more that what it should've been. All this anime was suppose to be was a shounen underdog anime which is definitely is, though I will say that in terms of execution it falls short on so many levels. I wished this anime took the time to showcase the other characters because they appeared to be more interesting than the ones we actually got to see in action. All I can really is that Academia is failed potential and with season 2 already confirmed I hope it will be better and actually give a reason to enjoy it.
Watch it if you want. but I won't make you.

So it's time for me to start talking about Soul Eater.
First things first, this anime is about people that turn into weapons and the people who use them to fight. This anime has a lot of well executed fight scenes that make for an enjoyable watch while at the same time keeps a nice Halloween like theme to it that adds to the semi-creepy setting. I say semi creepy because there are moment that are purely comical.
The setting is really nice and adds the darker elements to the show. The show's fight scenes also add to the setting with most of them taking place either
...
at night or in dark areas. The weapon designs for the show also add elements to the show that really completes the Halloween like setting.
The characters are an interesting bunch. They vary from the smart and confident to the relaxed and cocky. Each character has certain traits to them that distinguishes them from the other characters in the providing moments where they either truly shine or just completely displayed with comical reactions.
So basically, this is Halloween the anime. It's filled with monsters, killers, witches, and even zombies. While it isn't the most creepiest anime, it still has a Halloween theme to it much like the a Tim Burton film, but that's just my opinion. I highly recommend it as it was a really good watch.

Time for the next review...Whelp, here goes nothing.
Let's face it, we all want to going into a game and experience it firsthand. So the question arises, what happens when a guy takes that idea and makes an anime out of it?Sword Art Online (aka SAO) is an anime where virtual reality MMOs are a thing allowing people to actually play inside of a game. While this is a really good concept, SAO is not the best example for it.
The thing that made SAO stand out was the fact that the game was literally a game of life and death where dying in game would
...
mean death in real life. This would be an amazing part of the entire anime, but unfortunately the life and death concept is not even expanded on in the second half of the anime.
The main character is another problem with the anime. Kirito, our protagonist, only goal in the anime is beating the game which in turns causes him to become overpowered for the sake of the game which is weird in a game that has a level system. If his levels showed his progression through the game it would not be a huge problem, but the anime has so many timeskips within it that the viewer is left to themselves to guess what he did to gain those levels.
Though the anime had it's problems, it did have some nice touches to it. The voice acting was nice and did not sound awkward while at the same time gave scenes that helped with the overall tone of the anime. The setting was very nice and well thought out, even if it was not expanded on as much as I would have liked.
Saying SAO was bad would be incorrect while at the same time it was not good either. This anime is more of an anime that you would only enjoy if you are the type of guy who asks yourself "What if I was in this world?". This anime is not for everyone, so I'll let you decide if it's the thing for you.

So this is my first review, so keep that in mind. Also keep in mind that just because I enjoyed it, doesn't mean that it was perfect.
What first caught my eye in Tokyo Ghoul was the dark setting it looked to have, but ultimately the setting was more there to sugar coat the story than to actual establish a dark atmosphere. While Tokyo was displayed to have ghouls living and hiding within the city, yet the residents leave their houses at night, the time most ghouls feed, and are not even skeptical of their own neighbors.
The ghouls seemed like the perfect monster to
...
give fear to humanity and the best enemy I would want to see humans fight against, yet we only see them as human looking monsters that wanted to live with their food in harmony. The most normal acting characters were actual some of the most dangerous ghouls the show had known.
Ignoring the censorship, the fights were well done and nicely executed. I say nicely and not perfectly simply because no matter what anime, there is always more talking than fighting.
The characters were pretty easy to read for the most part. Each one fell into a different arc-type making it easy to tell what would happen when one character interacted with another. While this isn't exactly a bad thing, it did make predicting the future of the show too easy for me.
All together, this anime was a good watch. Whether or mot is was a good anime is debatable, but it's not my place to say. Instead, I'll just say that this was a good watch and worth the time I invested into it.
