I enjoyed Michiko to Hatchin a great deal, although I may have ditched some of my critical tendencies along the way out of stubborn fannishness. I'd still say it's my favourite show from 2008.
That whole non-shooting thing from our heroine I think is really important, as was the sudden delicious jump into goofiness during the tense face-off in the last epsode when Hatchin jumped on the badguy's face. Michiko uses her martial arts kinda like a shonen jump protagonist - she knocks people out rather than killing/shooting them, and when faced with a more 'high level' badass her athletic kicking hax deserts her utterly and she gets humiliated (not killed). The use of violence is a big part of why I found the show so loveable - it has cruel and hopeless scenes, alongisde realistically depressing characters like Hiroshi, and yet it somehow manages to work as my cartoon fix at the same time.

It's kind of interesting to get a peek at the different ways people seem to watch - like your own massive 'current watching' list. Plus, the scoring systems here look like being a cool way for me to hunt down new series. Though I'm beginning to think the entire world of online anime fans is in fact a conspiracy to get me to watch Aria.
