Don't watch the show looking for an explanation of the plot. The show is about the characters rather than answers about their world.

I agree with everything you said. The situation in KgNE is very extreme, but it's portrayed so realistically I'm ready to believe it. The only actual flaw that I can find is the fact that I can never remember its name; that's why I always have to copy-paste it.
As far as Nana goes, I've always been skeptical to pick it up for several reasons. First, I am very biased towards shojo genre as I usually find it really hard to watch. Second, the manga is still ongoing, so there is a chance that anime either ends abruptly or changes the ending.
I have seen Clannad After Story, and it is second only to Kimi ga Nozomu Eien in romance animes I've seen :)
As for School Days, I think it's unwatchable to begin with. :D It's been awhile since I completed it, but I remember being shocked from the stupidity of every single character there. Their logical thinking didn't make sense to me.
