About SlipperSleaze
My interest in anime peaked in the early 2000's

These days I'm mostly rewatching things from around that time.

I've read only rave-reviews about Evangelion 2.0, finally something to look forward to, but I guess the Trigun Movie would fall into that same category as well.

Cencoroll turned out to be a major disappointment, not worth checking out in my opinion. The old trailer is better than the damn movie itself (if you even call it a movie). The Aoi Banguaku Series is the only series that has impressed me this year, possibly the year's best series.

I think I am starting to see things your way more and more as time goes on. I re-watched the series that I first started out with, and it's shocking to see how differently I view things now. After a lot of re-watching, I have much more respect for a few oldies.

My opinion of Serial Experiments Lain is now the complete opposite of what it used to be. Lain used to be one of my least favorite series, but now I am considering buying it, a complete 180... And just like Boogiepop had, Lain also had impressive music, sounds, and animation (not that I need to tell you though, I just hadn't realized it before).

Wolf's Rain impressed the hell out of me the second time through. There is just too much originality (the characters, the settings, the story) and excellent directing for me to still have any complaints. Not to mention the extraordinary music that I hadn't even noticed the first time around...with age comes maturity I guess. Although the premise still didn't interest me a whole lot, I had a blast watching every episode (save for the recaps of course). They don't make 'em like they used to, do they?

Neon Genesis Evangelion is a hard one to wrap my finger around. After re-watching it, I now have all the respect in the world for the directing, but the material itself is what bugs me most -- it just doesn't interest me in the least. It's a hard one for me to rate because the story was executed so well, but I hardly ever enjoyed it.

Same thing happened with Beck: I originally disliked it, but for some reason I enjoyed every minute of it the second time through (the English version that is).
No guarantee that the same would happen to you though, I noticed that you weren't too impressed by it, eh?

After re-watching Trigun once again, I had to bump it even further. I am starting to think that you are always right.

If you do wanna check Monster out, it will be airing this monday just as a reminder.

Awesome music video, I've never seen that one before.
Now you got that beat stuck in my head

I have to agree with you there, you don't see too many professional looking DVD menus. Ha, yeah you are definitely spot on in saying these cheap box-sets don't have much fluff. That much should have been obvious to me from the beginning, but damn, I really should have realized it much sooner haha.

Yeah, I typically go with Rightstuf, unless there is a better deal on Amazon. I've had no problems with either of them thus far.

You may have heard other people say this already, but just be warned that Monster probably won't live up to its reputation until at least 40 episodes in, no exaggeration there. It's difficult to explain why though.

Just ordered and received some new anime titles. I bought both the Cowboy Bebop and Full Metal Alchemist movies, and both were incredibly cheap. Bebop has a particularly creative menu, I was very pleased with that purchase. The default is Japanese dialogue though, which I thought was an odd thing for them to do. I also got the Twelve Kingdoms Complete Collection, priced at only $50. Hell, that's only $1 an episode, and you get to keep it for life. Feels like anime is really cheap now-a-days, very odd.

The series I still have to buy is Ghost in the Shell. A new Complete 2nd GIG box-set was released just this week, and is priced at only $25!? Looks almost too good to be true, maybe that is a new sales tactic of theirs.

Not sure if you are interested, but Monster is going to air October 12 on SyFy (guess they changed their name...I really need to get with the times). I am very anxious to see how the English version turned out. I am not looking forward to SyFy cutting material out however, usually it's the ending credits I believe.

Yea, it looks awesome, I wasn't that excited before because I heard it might be a spinoff instead of a sequel, but the preview built some hype for me.

Yeah man, I remember way back in the day when they posted some info on CENCOROLL, really caught my interest back then (I figure the same went for you as well?). I got very lucky in realizing that it just recently aired or was in someway released. The bad news though is that I can't find much info on how it was released in Japan or how soon we can expect subs. Looks like it will be aired in one month at an anime festival in New York though, so it may already be dubbed in English. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Just stumbled upon the full version of one of the tracks of the Berserk anime, you may already be familiar with the song though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NkYYYew8CUI

Not trying to persuade you to watch it or anything like that haha. What really happened was that by listening to it, I am now on the brink of reading the manga, I am too intrigued by the story not to.

Dont forget to click the 'more' link next to my anime/manga for possible links.

Behold volume 11!

Someone's scanning past volume 11 too, and they're up on mangafox I think.

MEGATRON | 08-22-09, 10:53 PM
lol alright, I'll keep you in mind if I ever do lose my sanity.

MEGATRON | 08-22-09, 9:53 PM
Heh, I've still got it but I don't think I'll be selling with all the trouble I went through to get it, I didn't realize it would become so scarce though. The licensing company going out of business was pretty unexpected.

Deadpool135 | 08-19-09, 5:33 PM
Oh, I see I see. That is one massive screen and a damn good resolution you have! Those are about the only additional things I wish this laptop had. I might have to do it like you and eventually get a desktop computer also, not such a bad idea.

Deadpool135 | 08-19-09, 2:39 PM
Those are some very nice purchases! I think your anime collection will be about the same size as mine now haha. I am in love with the artwork for the Cowboy Bebop Anime Legends box set. I am in love with its DVD menus as well (not sure if they used the same menus with the older DVDs though?) Ah, you beat me to buying Ghost in the Shell, that is one I must purchase eventually. That brand new Champloo box set sure is tempting as well, but I think I might pass on it for now.

If you haven't seen much of Last Exile yet I would suggest testing it out before buying it. It certainly doesn't click with some people. Watching it in high quality is a huge incentive to buy it though, I may have to buy it for that reason alone.

I'll have to hold off on buying anime at the moment because I just spent a large chunk of cash. I just bought a damn-near perfect laptop for about $850. Can't believe how cheap you can get a good laptop for these days. Not quite as fast as a good desktop computer, but with Vista (as much as I hate the damn thing), it still runs hella fast. Plus I got lucky and am able to switch to XP or Windows 7 if I really want to. All of the problems I've had with laptops in the past aren't a problem on this one, I really had to do my research though to find this great of a deal. Have you hopped on the laptop bandwagon yet?

7cupcake | 07-29-09, 12:42 AM
same here :)

7cupcake | 07-28-09, 4:50 PM
hows it going?

Deadpool135 | 07-22-09, 9:12 AM
Every time I re-watch Bebop, it somehow manages to get better and better every single time... I cant stop watching...

Finally got my hands on the Baccano DVDs. Not sure if you are interested in how the English dub turned out or not, but here are my thoughts on it thus far:

The English dub uses some of the loosest translations I have ever seen. For the most part, the loose translations are for the better, but not always of course. I was especially surprised that the English dub totally switched it up from the Japanese voices in terms of emotion and tones, and went on their own agenda. In fact, they changed the dialogue so much that the characterization has slightly changed as a result. Overall though, I do feel that the English version is superior. But of course, a whole lot of greatness is lost.
