About Skins2153
I like any anime with a good story to tell. Over used plot devices drive me insane. As long as w/e it is sucks me in I'll probably enjoy it...that is unless it pulls a Death Note and ruins the whole experience (the last bunch of eps never happened).

School Days' final episode ALMOST redeemed the rest of the show. Almost, but not quite. Without it, I probably would've rated it a 2, but I can't deny how I enjoyed that final episode, even if I already knew what impeccable seacrafts were coming. :P

Bokura Ga Ita is already on my list by the way, I dropped it after ten episodes I think. The show really started to bore me after the first few episodes because, well, nothing ever seemed to happen and the art style isn't just one-of-a-kind, it's also very unpretty in my opinion. When the show started to take a turn for "oooh, this boy is so pretty <3", I realized I was in fact not a girl myself and stopped watching immediately. I tried reading the mango a little after that, and it was even worse. Yeah, I guess Bokura Ga Ita just isn't my type of show.

Anyway, I see you liked Mai-Otome. Weren't you, y'know, pissed off that the show was some sort of farfetched fanfic of Mai-HiME? I started watching the show hoping to find some answers, but instead I got magical girls in a fantasy world bullshit. I thought you, as a fan of the original, would have to hate it more than I did. :P

Hm, sports anime seem fun. I never really tried my hand at one but I would, if there weren't around 10 other shows I absolutely have to see first. As for Suzuka, I heard about it and a lot of people compare it to the likes of Love Hina which... doesn't get me excited. On top of that, you're correct, I'm not into romance anime. Mostly because I've never seen one that actually does a good job of it.

I do hand out 10s by the way. If I'd never seen Evangelion, I'd probably use it more often, but as things are now, there is a huge gap for me between Evangelion and the shows I rated a 9. I do have to say that Cowboy Bebop, Mushishi and Kaiba made me wonder if I wasn't just being a fanboy and if perhaps these shows deserved a 10 as well, but I want it to be clear that EVA hit me on a personal level while all other anime did not. The first anime to match my EVA experience will get a 10 as well, but it's unlikely that's gonna happen anytime soon. And no, Evangelion isn't perfect either. It is however, as the description for a 10 says, a Masterpiece. I really wish we could rate tenths, so I could give EVA a 9.9 and Cowboy Bebop a 9.5.

"Grave of the Fireflies" is a powerful dramatic film that happens to be animated, and I know what the critic Ernest Rister means when he compares it to "Schindler's List" and says, "It is the most profoundly human animated film I've ever seen."

Well, the thing is, I never thought Schindler's List was that great either. As I said, I've been through far too many movies of this kind to be able to enjoy them at this point. I'm not saying Grave of the Fireflies is bad, but I just didn't enjoy it at all. To many people this movie is "the best movie I never want to see again", but seeing as how I already saw pretty much the same movie ten times before it, perhaps I never wanted to see it to begin with.

Melancholy? You mean Haruhi? I scored it a 9 and that pretty much means I thought it was excellent because I never score 10s. It's not among my personal favourites though, it's a little too generic for that, but it was still highly enjoyable and overall a job well done by Kyoto. Overrated? YES. But good fun nonetheless.

And you're probably going to like Kaiji, because the ending sucks. :P Try not to drop it after two episodes, it's something you gotta get used to at first. I can't believe you've never heard of it by the way, it's one of the most popular shows of 2007.

PBz0r | 09-18-08, 1:01 PM
Bus Gamer and originality? You had best be trolling. If you liked it so much, watch Kaiji. Its premise is kinda similar, only this time it's good.

I only watched a few episodes of Kanon and Air and that sorta stuff because I can't stand anime based on (Key) eroge, and I can't stand Kyoto Animation either. Clannad only served to confirm this: the characters' personalities made no sense to me and overall felt incredibly empty. Fuko, Kotomi, Tomoyo and the gang were some of the most autistic characters I've ever seen in any anime, and I just don't like them that way. KyoAni has pretty much proven the average otaku does, and I hate them for that, but not me.

Now, for one of the most praised movie productions in anime history: Ghibli's Grave of the Fireflies. The first three minutes of the movie, I was blown away. It was emotional, powerful and most importantly made me feel incredibly sad. An excellent start. The other 90-ish minutes however, disappointed me to no end. This had everything to do with my history regarding WWII-movies: I think I've seen every Pianist, Schindler, Pearl Harbor, Last Emperor and La Vita e Bella out there and so the constant slaughter and pain and hunger and images of wartorn communities started to, well, bore me. Now I only saw Grave of the Fireflies a few months ago, so perhaps I would've given it a 10 in 1988, but now the only thing that was sorta new to me was seeing the Japanese side of the story and the absence of Jews. So what do you get? A kid whose parents die and who's starving and it's so saaad and he has a little sister and she dies and then... what!? The movie's over!? What's this bullshit? In the end, it was all the same stuff I had seen a thousand times before and the ending was sudden and pointless (and as you know by now I care for endings as much as the rest of the show). I respect what it has done for anime and how great it was twenty years ago, but I didn't enjoy it at all, so that's why I gave it a 7.

pffffft shota-kun is 10x more manlier than fagkoto could ever hope to be!

PBz0r | 09-17-08, 5:39 PM
Hm, I thought you had originally done two reviews, must've been someone else.

I agree Bus Gamer wasn't half bad for a show with no ending, no plot, barely any characters, crappy animation and no point in the entire show, aside from marketing upcoming manga volumes (because that was the only reason they made those three episodes). On the other hand, I can't say I enjoyed it. At all. It's still better than Chobits though.

Anyway, it's pretty obvious you don't care about endings and animation quality as much as I do. :P Oh, and what did you think was so great about Clannad? I hear half of the international anime community thinks it's the best show ever these days, and I don't understand. I never thought it was especially funny, I never liked the moe (read: "stupid") characters, the only thing it has going for it is the animation quality... which I as deducted, you're not supposed to care about! :P

PBz0r | 09-17-08, 10:50 AM
I always pretend the 13 episodes in the middle never happened. Then again, the best episodes in Death Note are ways above Mai-HiME. Episode 6 (think Naomi, Penber's wife) is still one of my favourite episodes in any anime. Good stuff.

So anyway, can you explain to me why Chobits, Naruto: Shippuuden and Bus Gamer score higher on your list than Ghost in the Shell 2? I mean, I've seen a lot of people's ratings, but this... :P
Oh, and why did you delete one of your reviews?

PBz0r | 09-16-08, 2:01 PM
Ah, so you WERE trolling. I was kinda expecting that.

As for Mai-HiME, when you don't account for episodes 1-13 and 26, I can sort of see why you enjoyed the show. But those episodes are still in there. I can't review only half of the show.

I enjoyed the video btw, pretty BALLIN'. :P
Yeah, that was bad, sorry.

PBz0r | 09-15-08, 6:05 PM
Never mind, I saw your ratings for Mai-HiME and Chobits. So, up for a little flamewar? I'd say: make your move.

Cool, let me know what you thinK! xxxx

Kettricken | 07-01-08, 5:06 AM
It really really depends what you like to be honest. It is quite an over the top anime, there are alot of predictable things that happen and scenarios! But i love that kind of thing and i adored the characters! I loved the ending but if you didn't like it the anime just might not have been for you! ^ ^

Kettricken | 06-29-08, 11:16 AM
Hmm, i suppose it is in a way strange! I take it you didn't like it much!! ^ ^ xxx

animedreamer240 | 06-29-08, 10:23 AM
I'll put my recommendation here as well. You have to check out Legend of the Galactic Heroes. It has masterpiece ratings and highly intelligent characters. At first I didn't know what all the fuss was about, but after giving this anime just 10 episodes of attention, I love it already. <3 It's also rather old, but aren't the old ones just great classics?
