I haven't seen .hack either so I can't really comment on that comparison. I does sound like it could be interesting. Not sure if I'll ever actually get to watch it though since I don't have as much time for anime as I used to. And that will be especially true when school starts in two weeks now.
It is definitely different than what I expected. I wasn't anticipating much more than a silly comedy but the drama has been really gripping. What's SAO? Sword Art Online? I'm not watching that one, what's it like?
