Here are my suggestions to you for what you should watch that most USA people are watching or have watched and consider "classic" or popular. Use the search at the top of the site to find the pages on each of these shows and where you can download them.
Bleach - (Action) It's just like Naruto in a way. Its easy to follow. It's about a human becoming a grim reaper.
Death Note - (Dark, psychological, mystery) about a human finding a "death note" that allows him to kill whoever he wants by writing their name in the note book.
Elfen Lied - (Dark, Action, romance) About girls that have long invisible hands that are sharp like blades that can kill people.
Cowboy Bebop - (action) Almost like Outlaw Star. Basicly its about a group of space bounty hunters.
Cowboy Bebop movie - (action) A movie that's a spin off from the series. You can watch this first if you want.
Neon Genesis Evangelion - (Action, Mecha) About teenagers becoming pilots for large organic robots that are supposed to protect the word from "Angles". It's a very religious/anti-religious series. There's also several movies.
Chobits - (Romance) boy finds robot girl, falls in love, live happily ever after.
Fullmetal Alchemist - (action, magic) About two brothers that learned Alchemy and tried to use it to bring back their dead mother. One boy loses his body but his soul is attached to a suit of armor. So both brothers join the military to learn more about Alchemy and to solve the issue of getting back the body for his brother.
Trigun - (Action) good gun/ western type anime.
Blood+ - (Dark, Action) About Vampires and a girl thats considered a full blooded vampire killing them and trying to kill her sister.
Ghost in the shell series 1 and 2 - (future, mecha, action) kind of like CSI/born supremacie and matrix all wrapped into one.
I could go on...haha check out each of the shows I've mentioned and see if any spark your interest. You could also check out the Naruto page and view the "user suggested" area for shows that other people liked as much as Naruto.
