Hayate is one of the most overrated anime of all time. For a randomness lover like myself to diss it so badly when its theme IS randomness, it's really bad. I amazes me to find out how many actually like it. I gave up by episode 7...
Well, I think regardless of what you start, all of those are class acts, even Air. You probably won't be disappointed with any.
Bamboo Blade was one of the best when it aired, though I must say it gave a rather sub-standard build-up to it's actual plot. We see randomness for 20 episodes, before the story finally kicks in. Kinda late, I would think...

Maybe 4 is abit too low for it, but I'd say perhaps 5? There are 2 distinct groups. The first that say it's excellent. To prevent any spoilers, I'm the group that thinks it doesn't answer anything. Based on the first 7 epis, it would have easily been a 7 and above, but it got pulled down after that.
I think you'll like it, though. Just a feeling. :P
Also, regarding you question on Higurashi previously, why have you dropped it now?

I'd like to recommend Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei to you, given you appear to like random anime (though it is strange you didn;t like Pani Poni Dash, which I thought was an ingenious random anime as well. Far better than the likes of Hayate no Gotoku).
