I see you like Rurouni Kenshin to. Not alot of people know bout this but Eichiro Oda actually worked as an assistant to Watunuski. You may recall a pivotal scene about a straw hat as well involving Hiko Seijuru. Thats why this upcoming arc of one peice is going to be something very special to the author because it represents the first time he worked on anything since Rurouni Kenshin and i am sure there just be a load of throwbacks to his first work.

Thanks for all the info. I like OP so far, it's not as good as HxH or Gintama but it's still nice

Trust me you haven't even really graced it yet. It gets so so so much better :p Some people have to understand that one piece is HUGE, i mean even around 350+ is only like the 25% mark of the story line. But many of the slower character centric arcs are very relevant to understand some of larger plot points later on. There is foreshadowing just in abundance, probably more then you realize. Hell i am still going back after -re-watching certain arcs and always finding new things that have been planned by author hundreds of episodes ago.

For example? Who is the character that supposedly climbed over the red line into the holy land of the government. What were the implications of that event and who was it that he rescued. You get introduced to this in the arlong park arc but its very pivotal for what happens later on.

I think foreshadowing is what oda does an amazing job at and although you have to wait to see many of these "secrets" unveiled in the story, the pay off is so worth it.

The way i look at is naruto is kind of a heavily formalic story where each major arc connects into each other in kind of a seamless way. One piece on the other hand is a "character driven story" where the characters seemingly becoming the driving force behind the narrative. But as you get further, the narrative will become more seamless and things will be more tightly woven as opposed to separate episodic adventures.

Naruto is a great story but i think it doesn't hold a candle to the way ODA foreshadows things and carefully plans future events. Naruto is kind of more layed out straightforward with exciting twists and turns at certain major mile stones. Some things are planned, but not nearly as well crafted as one piece and when all is said and done. I truly believe that the finale of the story of OP will be that much more amazing because the author has everything orchestrated up to that point.

They both have there flaws, personally i think the growth and development that naruto goes through is alot more deeper then the character luffy. I also like the story of naruto and how it deals around a very heavily dramatic and emotional tale full of dark undertones where as one piece is more of a layed back comedic adventure with certain epic moments sprinkled here and there.

Naruto's story is about an adolescent child thrown into a world with corruption, conflict and war at every corner and he has to survive the trials and tribulations of the many dangers as a shinobi, but watching his maturity and his growth as he contends with the many depressing and dispiriting moments through out his life as he grows to become an adult. I think is one of the series strongest points.

Not exactly similar, but if you mean comedy with a lot of funny/weird scenes in it then watch D.Frag. It's sooo good.
DeadlyRaven Sep 12, 2017 3:01 AM
Well, Oreimo is okay, but I wouldn't exactly recommend it. (._. )
Some scenes are funny, but it's not every episodes at all...
DeadlyRaven Sep 12, 2017 2:58 AM
Oh, it's from Oreimo, maybe the second season, not sure.

Marinford is quite simply most fans favorite arc in the series for alot of reasons That is why i am even more excited to see what this upcoming current arc will be like, as the editor compared its quality to that of marinford.

Naruto shippuuden had alot of ups and downs throughout its entire course, but i will say the studio absolutely went all out on the "final battle" you honestly have to see it to believe it.

Anyways just stick with the series as much as you can, try to refrain to much from spoilers and honestly the story only improves the further you trudge along.

Good god your topic is full of nothing but cancer. Honestly this is what makes it so hard for people to get involved in a new shonen series. Well i am going to give my personal perspective on it and it’s better to hear this from an actual fan and not some troll user that just wants to bash the franchise or the anime series. First of all i have to get this out right now. Fairy tail is not even remotely by any stretch One piece's equal in terms of writing or story involvement. They maybe similar in design but my god Eichiro oda and is a far more craftier author then Hiro mashima. I mean hell i gave fairy tail a rating of like 5 and one piece a rating of 10 if that tells you anything.

I think the issue with alot of ongoing shonen series is "consistency" and that seems to be something that has plagued shonens for so long. Writers fall out of ideas and start to contradict their story in alot of ways or will go in just very bizarre directions. (bleach for example) Or some writers may just end up completely destroying their characters and writing them off and the story becomes sort of nonsensical (fairy tail). Naruto was my childhood and it will always be remembered as something quite special to me since its my gateway drug into Japanese subtitled anime. But overall i would have to tip my hat to Hunter X Hunter or one piece as being the two most dominant shonen series out there today, especially one piece with the author's ability to craft a story for 20 long years with good execution and foreshadowing and still remain consistent to this day. That is a feat that is almost unheard of for any kind of author in this medium. Especially for Shonen Jump.

Well its why ive always held one piece in very high regard. I am not just some blatant biased fan. The kind of commitment and dedication that these authors undertake and their confidence to see such stories end on a high note is always a good thing. But Eichiro Oda clearly has a solid foundation and direction of where the story is heading and he knows full well what he's doing with his manga unlike other authors. It is that kind of change and dedication that makes all the difference for a mangaka. So really i have doubts in my mind that the series will continue to impress me and end on a solid note judging by the fact that he said he has the entire final arc mapped out already.

I usually tell fans to watch at least upwards to episode 24 or 32-33 as this kind of showcases oda talent behind some of his more deeper writing and characterization. Episode 4 is what I consider the first decent episode so let’s see how you feel about that. Being a fan of fairy tail yourself since you commented on it, i can't wait to see how you draw comparisons. Good god I consider them not even on the same level.
Well give it a shot and I think you will enjoy it, it starts off somewhat slow in terms of the core narrative, but there is something to really enjoy bout a series that has slow-build ups with a very satisfying payoff in the end and one piece really manages do this very well. As you continue watching, the story will only tighten its grip. The current arc, the editor of the manga actually said will be the most amazing arc ever witnessed in the story line. Now that is a huge claim from the horses mouth him self but damn its never been a better time to jump on the one piece bandwagon.

In my list of shonen series when speaking in terms of the long runners, it would go something like this:

One piece - 10
Hunter X Hunter -9
Naruto - 8
Naruto Shippuuden - 7
D gray man - 7
Bleach - 6
Hitman Reborn - 6
Fairy Tail - 4
