I appreciate your support once again, and I will definitely give LotGH a look sometime, being I can't say no to an anime that shows what made older anime so great. :D (also, I am a fan of director Noboru Ishiguro)

On another note, it appears they even accepted my second picture for Omori as well, which is shocking.

Also, figured I'd slip you a final comment to let you know I finished my latest blog. I decided that since it would be too hard to document trends in the human condition within the history of anime, being my viewings have been primarily 80s and 90s anime, I decided I would choose some examples of anime that have left me thinking about the subject when I saw them. If there's anything more you're ever curious about with any of the series I mentioned, feel free to ask. I'm always good for it! ^_^ (any questions or feedback is always welcome)

Also, I got myself a new computer and now I can watch anime online again (hooray!), though the second season of Hell Girl and Baccano! have both been licensed, which makes my timing pretty bad with seeing those, but I am happy I get to watch some Natsume Yuujinchou and Sayonara Zetsobou Sensei nonetheless! :D

I know this is weird to mention, but I suddenly looked at the Obscure Anime Club we were both in and just realized you replied to my querie involving Yoiko. I really appreciate you did that for me, thank you! ^_^

I submitted a picture for Omori, so I hope the moderators approve of it! ^_^ (if not, then it's back to the drawing board!)

Also, I'm still working on my blog right now, so I hope to have something for you to read by the time you log back on. ^_-

I'll see if I can whip up a sceenshot of him at some point, that's not a bad idea! ^_-

Also, that Human Condition Blog is a lot harder to put together than I thought, but if worse comes to worst then I'll just post something in the meantime. I've got plenty of time tomorrow to work on some stuff so something will pop up from me at some point. ^_^

I know this is kind of strange to say, but after viewing the entire Hell Girl series, I can certainly say it was a good series. However, the DVD set I purchased happened to have an interview with the director, Takahiro Omori, and a few other staff members. What made the interview special for me is I got to see what he looked like for the first time, being I've never seen the man's face anywhere on the internet.

I've seen many wonderful interviews with Mamoru Oshii, seen one with Hideaki Anno, seen some with Isao Takahata, and even a few with Yoshiaki Kawajiri. But the fact that one of my big favorites finally had a visual representation somewhere was cool for me to experience, especially when he joked about how he was on a week long vacation when he was asked to do the series, and he originally thought he was going to be an episode director, but was later surprised to find out they wanted him to do the whole series! XD

Also, there's a picture for that BGC movie on ANN right now. ^_-

I know--it really made me laugh. And I love the music.

It reminded me of Gorillaz, actually... It does seem fun, in a cartoony way. What's up with the bear ears! :P

tehnominator | 11-25-08, 2:01 AM
Oh, I was going to write reviews for them later today. I didn't get a chance to yesterday because right after I watched them, I had to leave the house.

Went to see the new James Bond flick: Quantum of Solace. It was...really sexy. Which is odd, because I am generally not a James Bond fan.

And to answer your question: Kung Fu Love.

gaguri | 11-24-08, 7:35 PM
Check your Inbox for my reply :)

And lol, no, I'm really not that much of an expert in films, it's only natural for a Korean to have watched some of the best of Korean films.

gaguri | 11-24-08, 4:54 PM
Well, I am not exactly the type looking for bad films to watch (huhu), so I'll just recommend the good ones I've watched.

Foul King: Not exactly deep, but I enjoyed it for its hilarious comedic value. It's worth noting that it's directed by Kim Ji Woon, who is another one of the great Korean directors today .

*off-topic on Kim Ji Woon
He directed Tale of Two Sisters and Bittersweet Life. I have a hunch that you might have already watched Tale of Two Sisters, but if you haven't, it's what one might classify as a beautiful horror (the phrase coined by the director himself). I think Le Portrait de Petite Cossette is a beautiful horror as well (the korean word for 'beautiful' has a more, hmm, elegant connotations to it). As for Bittersweet Life...I'll let this awesome trailer speak for itself. O the bittersweet poetry that is mafia tale.

The Good, The Bad, The Wierd: Speaking of Kim Ji Woon, this is his latest work, incredibly fun, also recommended.

Memories of Murder: Oh...one of my favourite crime/mystery films. Definitely watch this to taste the unique flavour of the mystery genre.

Secret Sunshine: I loved it. A heart-wrenching drama with that Korean flare, and just full of these

Shiri: Hmm. This was a big hit mainly because it was unconventional in many ways, at least for Korean film industry. I thought it was bit better than average film. Even the star performance by Choi Min Su (old boy) and Song Kang Ho could not turn the characters memorable. Nevertheless, interesting political story between North and South Korea.

JSA: Directed by Park Chan Wook, which is why it's bit disappointing considering the expectations. Lot more geared towards mainstream, still pretty good imo, interesting politics between North and South like Shiri (bit deeper in this case), features yet again all star cast of Lee Byung Hun (another splendidly awesome actor you might want to get acquianted with in Korean cinema) and the heroine of SympathyLadyVengeance.

And of course, you've already watched The Host and SympathyMr Lady Vengeance.

...I should just collect all these posts and make a small Korean movie section ^_^;;

Also, any feedback or suggestions is always welcome from you, I find myself becoming more confident when I know there's people who always appreciate what I have to say like you do! ^_^

Boy, this blogging hobby of mine is really giving me a lot to think about! XD

If you're wonder why it's been a while, it's because I've been watching Hell Girl, which is quite the interesting series thus far. It inspired me to make a blog about "The Human Condition in Anime" or something to that effect. It reminded me of Boogiepop Phantom or even Serial Experiements Lain when it shows people and their desires and circrumstances take them over. It's like when I see the people in that series desire vengence, to the point of never caring to damn themselves, it just says something profound to me. Well, maybe "profound" is a strong word, but I suddenly felt the urge to talk about it, yet I'm unsure as to how to organize it.

I will try and put out something soon enough, more than likely I will have time on my next day off to post something until then. ^_- (my head's spinning with all the anime I want to do another Extra Magic segment on too! XD)

gaguri | 11-22-08, 1:25 PM
Ah forgive me for bringing up Gankutsuou, what was I thinking. Although I think the bigger problem was with how "loyal" it tried to be.

And you bet I'm looking forwards to Thirst...few things I want to say about my expectations of this film, just in case you're interested ^_^

- The lead actor Song Kang Ho is one of, if not the best actor you will find. I have yet to see a performance anything less than stellar from him. Iincidentally, I have also yet to watch his movie that is anything less than stellar, so I hope it stays that way.

- There was a lot of buzz about who was going to be the female lead, since it required heavy sex scenes a la Old Boy/Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (ow! yess!). Kim Ok Bin is hmm. Well, she's the girl that turns up on youtube if you search "Korean Beyonace"...and now she's going to act as a broken midwife. Well, I'm sure Park Chan Wook chose her for a reason and she didn't have to sleep with him ^___^b

tehnominator | 11-22-08, 10:07 AM
*grins stupidly* Well, I doubt I make it better, but I did lament over the lack of reviews some other titles had. I felt that, hey, anime is anime, manga is manga, just because it isn't popular doesn't mean it's not good.

Oh yeah, Nobue rocks all socks off. I just love the way she acts, pretty cool, in a laid-back way. And it's just awesome to see how she interacts with these kids.

Love your profile pic. Alpha is the best--it hurts to think that a great series like Yokohama Kaidaishi Kikou had to end...
