read your review of Kino's Journey and it made me sad. I wish Kino's Journey could be loved by everyone as much as I love it, but as you know it's not so appealing to everyone. I respect your opinion and all but would just like to take a crack at swaying you to the other side.
Your review came across like you were very frustrated with the character Kino mainly due to her inaction and seemingly lack of emotion. I myself love Kino for those traits. She's just the kind of person who thinks before they act and she has plenty of emotions despite not being obvious about them too often. I guess I mostly love the character for being able to relate to her more than the more common hero-type main character.
I didn't gather from the show that all they wanted to convey is that people are evil. But rather that people aren't perfect and despite all of the suffering the world can be a wonderful place. As Kino says "The world is not beautiful and that in a way lends it a sort of beaty".

*Random Rant*
Was reading your review of You're under Arrest... your profile picture quickly caught my attention.
I must say, that the term disturbingly badass completely describes your profile pic. Also reminds me of Seto no Hanayome man-ley moments.

It's good to see that i'm not the only one who claims that kino's journey sucked.

The soundtrack to Lupin III is excellent, and lays out plainly for everyone to see that it is a series that is laid back fun and zest, not some big budget, perfect production...at its worst, it is funny at all times, but at its best, it genuinely goes along with the pacing and adds a lot. *insert generic 720p horribly typical modernly bad anime* probably does not keep up!
(If you were playing more of a devil's advocate, then sorry for too serious a response).

By all means, feel free to idea bounce offa me. I own the whole series, so if I'm sketchy on something, I'll just pop it on in and refresh my memory. And the Outlaw Star theme is AWESOME. Truly great song. The ending theme to Gilgamesh, however, is terrible, but that's what makes it so enjoyable. It's a song I can sing just as well as the actual recorded artist. Heh.

Mm, as much as I agree that Ponyo was a bit of a disappointment you have to remember that when you type "...action, danger, and heart-wrenching drama? NONE of that was here!" I think you're forgetting that this indeed is a childrens film. It is aimed at predominantly children, or perhaps families.
The rest of us who love Miyazaki for what he's done earlier have to accept this I guess and just enjoy the incredible art and animations, every singl frame was like looking at a painting. This one didn't even play alot on the underlying environmental themes that he usually pushes quite far.

I hear ya; I too try to write the "devil's advocate" review. And yeah, I also tend to write ones for shows that don't have many...unless it left a really strong impression on me (good or bad) as Escaflowne and Gantz did.
Well, I am flattered and really hope that you enjoy Gilgamesh. It is one of my fav.s now. I do forewarn you to try and at least get to episode 5 before making a judgment call. The initial episodes leave you thinking, "Huh, no idea what's happening, but I'm not turned off." It's kind of like Ergo Proxy that way. Also, as I warned, be prepared to analyze/discuss the ending or you WILL feel cheated. So, I recommend maybe getting an analysis buddy or two and forcing 'em to watch it with you. Oh, and of course, I also highly, highly recommend belting out that horrible, but oh so lovable, ending theme. ^_~

Lol. Just read your review for Ponyo and all I have to say is, clouds, indeed. Great way to put it. ^_~
Also read your review on Shigurui. I watched one episode of that by mistake (episode 7, I do believe), and all I have to say is...disturbing. The art style was horribly grotesque, in my opinion. And based on that one episode, I'd say your depiction of the show is spot on.

Well thank you for saying so. My mom, sister, and a family friend saw that 197 yahoo users gave it an A, so we thought we were in for another Miyazki masterpiece. Alas, that was not to be. The main reason I wrote the review here is because I really wish someone had pointed out some of the issues I mentioned before we spent money watching it. It perplexes me, because, as I said, I love Miyazaki, I really do. I grew up with Totoro. However, that doesn't mean I'm going to just smile and nod when he screws up.
Anyway, thanks for the supportive words. Oh, and I love the profile pic. Made me laugh. ^_~

Right, I liked it too, however it really bothered me how they portrayed Goeman. I thought he lost his cool way too many times, though I suppose even once wouldve bothered me. I like to think of him as a stone, completely calm and cool .

Hello, have you seen Lupin III Dragon of Doom? It's all about Goemon and I was wondering if you had a similar reaction to mine since you have Goemon as one of your favorite characters.
