I've been an anime fan for over twenty years. The first anime that I can remember off the top of my head is Alps no shoujo Heidi that I watched when I was about four or five. I actually only started reading manga a few years ago; I began with shounen and shoujo, and then was introduced to seinen and josei.
Dislikes: Dragon Ball GT (Toriyama had nothing to do with the story; anyone who says it's canon is either misinformed or in denial), Bleach, Kingdom Hearts, Fruits Basket, CLAMP, Square-Enix (they used to be cool when they were two separate companies), Final Fantasy VII Compilation.
My Ratings Guide
10 ~A work of art that's unlike anything that came before it, or has revolutionized its genre. Clever writing, satisfying characterization, and musical score that sets the mood. Of course, the definition of 'masterpiece' differs from one person to another, so there's a possibility that not all people will appreciate it.
9-8 ~highly recommended works that feature a satisfying balance of good plot and characterization for the most part. The reasons why they weren't scored higher could be relating to that a few parts were handled poorly, some things weren't explained properly, or that some key characters weren't as developed as someone might've hoped.
7 ~flawed, but you can get enjoyment out of it.
6 ~occasionally mediocre writing and could lack in substance, but not entirely unwatchable.
lol, i guess our moms will never understand the world of manga and anime, loool. i cant blame them, when i was a kid, i didnt know the meaning of the word "anime". Well my mother´s eyes were like this =_= when she saw my big package of manga arriving, loool, im sure she didnt like it, because she really hates when i spend money on these type of things.
i took a look at the art of swan, its really beautiful*.*
well, amazon to me is dead, they sent me the manga with more than 2 weeks late, and i paid soooo many for the delivery T.T damn them. that website seems cool! i had never heard of it, thank you^.^ i also got another reccomendation from a guy of the website http://www.bookdepository.co.uk guess what? free delivery!!!! and more cheap manga. i was almost crying when i heard that guy tell me that he ordered from there and i was extremely satisfied with them. Free delivery T.T only if i knew a little bit sooner T.T
well sometimes i have this urge of yelling at Kagome fans and telling them just to shut up, but i control myself. c´mon. are they blind? we jealous of Kagome staying with Inu at the end? no. absolutely no. First of all, i always knew he would stay with her no matter what because they were the protagonists, and that´s usually a rule in shoujo. But clearly he stayed with her on a very so-not-full-of-emotion end. It was like "yeah, lets stay together, since we got through so many stuff", not the "im gonna stay with you because im so in love with you". Im a big fan of Rumiko, i mean, she was clear in her position, that was "They stay together, they like each other, but! if kikyo was alive..."type.
its not Kagome character who makes her hateable, its her fans=_=
You enjoy horror? what type of horror? light horror, supernatural, or bloody horror?;D
i enjoy the most the light one. im watching the airing horror animes, Shiki and Highschool of the dead. Shiki well...lets say im so sick of the theme vampire everywhere. Since twilight movie came, that vampires are everywhere. Although Shiki´s vampires are awful and scary, lol.
Highschool of the dead is all about zombies. it seems to me im watching resident evil in anime, loool. i was really on pain watching resident evil movies, looool. i hate zombies, but its curious because one of the movies i most watch everytime is on tv, is the Iam legend, which has zombies but i love it;D
well Kaname had a lover which was the hunter´s ancestor (including Zero´s ancestor);P yaoi community rejoices (Zero x Kaname connected, loool)! but he loves Yuki;D he does really love her, so no, Zeki fans arent happy, lol. Actually as a Zeki fan i lost my hope for Yuki|Zero long time ago, because im 100% sure, she wont let go Kaname. The only way would be Kaname letting her go. Anyway, i dislike Yuki as main girl. I dont mind Zero to be alone at all, but i want him happy with himself, i want him to accept what he is;D
well then i guess ill try to watch the tv series first;D Evangelion is one of those classics like Sailormoon, Rurouni kenshin and saint seiya;D (although i dont like saint seiya original, only the lost canvas). But i heard that the end of the tv series whas like "WTH?" and fans were mad, looool. i guess the movie completed the end of the series?
oh dont worry about it, really;D
so did u enjoyed the trip??;D
im glad your mom is better, but, omg, lol, that´s bad, i know how hard it is to stop laughing when we are laughing so hard. i bet that friend felt a bit bad for her, because he was trying to help and ended up in a mess, lol.
Anyway, yeah, its better your mom dont laugh for some time now, it can damage the surgery. Still its gonna be hard because when we cant laugh, we usually want to do it;P
Well Dear my girls its just another shoujo random story, but the art is very beautiful;D im those type of persons that will read anything just to see a good art, lol. Although ofc, if it has a good story, is much better.
the protagonist of Saver sometimes remembers me Sarasa. She is strong, she can fight, and she disguises herself as a boy, also, she had a forbidden love too.
oh, i left it on hold for now (basara). that, and all the manga i was reading, lol. im trying desperately to read them but my mom hates the fact that i read "cartoons" (that´s how she calls it), so lately i cant read it, or she will say "you´re not studying, and you´re reading that?! you must study and finish your thesis, bla bla bla". Its kinda pissing.
Anyway, i just ordered from amazon all available vols of bride of the water god, which is my fav manhwa, and probably my fav art in all manhwa, and manga. i almost had a heart attack when i saw the delivery price T.T still, i bought it. but damn amazon uk is so damn expensive. ill try amazon usa next time i guess.
Anyway, i wanted to thank u, for your help in inu kik club, after a certain kagome fan commented there. she had some nerve to enter the club just to write that and then leave. Kagome fans are so damn tiring. not to mention, childish. or maybe just dumb, because only a brainless person cant see Inuyasha´s true feelings.
omg, that would be awful if Hino turned Kaname into a Lelouch. although...did u read last chapter? every yaoi fan is rejoicing now. It seems that the hunters ancestor (including Zero´s ancestor, lol) was a vampire woman...and Kaname´s lover. He really liked her.
She sacrificed her life to "become" a weapon to hunters, so they could kill purebloods, although she was a pureblood too. She loved humanity, so she did that without regret.
btw, i wanted to ask your opinion about Neon Genesis Evangelion. i wanted to watch the movies, they are much better rated than the tv series, did u watch them?XD
btw, did u watch Phantom~requiem for the phantom~? its about a killer, usually not my type of genre, but men, i loved it! anyway, you may like it, since you like animes with some action^.^
Oh, alright. I'm going on a family trip myself in a few weeks. How far are you in Strange Journey? How does it compare to other SMT games?
Oh, alright. That's weird, I never got the sense while watching the last 13 episodes that they were originally intended as two separate programs. Even the previews showed scenes from the entirety of the next episode. Either whoever edited them did a really good job, or they were originally intended to be full episodes and the Japanese network made them cut it down.
Either way, I thought it was alright. There were some interesting developments in the latter half, although some of them just seemed incredibly sudden. As you can see on my list, I gave it a 7/10.
Yeah, I checked out a couple volumes of Parasyte at a local bookstore a while back. I'm talking, like, OLD volumes, from something like 10 years ago - the art was flipped and half the characters were inexplicably given American names, 4Kids-style, even though the series is obviously set in Japan. Apart from that, though, I am intrigued. In a way it seems like kind of the standard shonen storyline, but much darker and more gruesome than the norm. It takes guts to make a story arc in which the bad guy kills and possesses the protagonist's MOTHER. What I checked out was an entertaining read, and I'd be eager to see more more if I can find it.
Yeah, I'm glad to hear that Eva 2.0 is finally crossing over. I'll definitely have to see it in theaters, like I did for the first one. It's like a small pilgrimage for Eva fans.
Wait, Summer Wars is getting a theatrical release, or Funimation just licensed it? I've heard many good things about TGWLTT and would like to see it, but haven't had the chance.
well im glad to hear your mom is ok;D be sure to make her rest, its not easy to make a surgery. and you´re welcome^.^
well i only added Death note because of Hidaka, lol. i want to hear her so much making a boy´s voice. really! she is awesome. and well because i also love mamoru miyano, lol, and he´s there too.
hahahah, well i think Nakia is the reason why i have red river on hold for more than 3 years hahahah. im reading Saver now. i like the main girl a lot. She is so my type of girl. she fights like a men, she can defend herself and everyone around her. im loving her personality. Also i loved the way the story started. a tragic forbidden love T.T Really, you should try Saver;D
hahaha, yes, im on vol 10 of basara i think. im on that part where Shuri just fighted against the invasion of the island, and he asked to the europeans to make him a birthday party in the ships with fireworks, so they could scare the enemy. quite clever!
Also finally Sarasa told to her followers that she is a woman. it was nice of them to accept her^^
but damn i keep wondering how its possible that Sarasa havent met Shuri in her Tatara´s uniform, and how much time they will going to take until they face each other in battle. and why the hell Shuri doesnt tell her he is the red king, when he already told the others=_= . And also, wow! Shuri is only 18! i thought he was 24 or something lol.
oh Kaname is the most popular chara in vk fandom. well actually:
Zero is more popular in Europe and China.
Kaname is more popular in Japan and in south and north America.
well i dont dislike Kaname. i understand his pain and i now sometimes Zero acted like a brat. But lately has been so cute, it makes me love him even more. He is slowly accepting himself and he actually wants to talk to Yuki, but she runs away T.T
but well i doubt Yuki will leave Kaname, lol. i just dont want to see kaname or Zero dying in the end, but i have this weird feeling one of them will. if Kaname dies its unfair and i wont like it. If Zero dies ill die too and never read a hino matsuri manga again.
And jeezz i hope Yuki changes. She pisses me off a lot because she doesnt do anything at all except being a bother for kaname and Zero and Aidou which is her babysitter=_=
she is so cliché with that personality of hers...oh but well, lets see.
Okay. I can send you some good demon passwords if you like - although I guess they won't really be useful until you're at a sufficiently high level (and I haven't yet gotten any really weird demons that can't be obtained by ordinary means).
By the way, did you ever get Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey? It's pretty fun, and certainly addictive. If you do get a chance to try it, I'd be curious to know what demons and play-style you use, and also how it compares to other SMT games.
From what I hear Geldoblame gets developed considerably in the prequel. He's also voiced by Dwight Schultz in that game, which is a hell of an incentive to play it. I'm probably going to start on it when I'm done replaying Chrono Cross.
I'm just starting in on the second story arc. I'll let you know what I think of it.
Well, Xelha literally becoming the ocean sounds like something from mythology, doesn't it? It would've been cool if they had gone with that. Either way, the scene felt very sudden when I played it; my memory is hazy on whether there was a general lack of foreshadowing, or whether I just didn't perceive it. As for Melodia, I think it's kind of a Golbez syndrome: if you spend half the game setting up a character to be the big villain, it feels pretty damn cheap to decide at the last moment that they are actually good and just being mind-controlled. In fact, mind control in general is a horrible plot device and it should be erased from fiction, especially when used as a twist. Also, both Kalas and Melodia's predicament seems to send the message that if someone doesn't SEEM like a bad guy, they're not. I dunno, maybe it would have bothered me less if I had played it years ago, when I was far less cynical than I am now. But if you're going to pull off a happy ending, you've got to make a cynic like me believe it (especially when you've spent your entire game hinting at darker elements of the plot).
Although really, the single biggest blotch on the ending (aside from Xelha coming back at the last minute) is Geldoblame popping out of the ground for no reason when you least expect it. It's so jarring and nonsensical as to be unintentionally hilarious. That the ensuing battle is painfully long and tedious lessens the humor, but certainly doesn't help matters.
Princess Tutu is... interesting. I was initially taken in by the concept and I like the characterization of Duck - she's charming without being cloying. But the whole postmodern, surreal twist to the tale - that it's all the events of a story book, escaped from the pages and manipulated by the storyteller who's also the narrator who's also dead - is starting to wear thin for me. Is the series set in a story-book world, or a "real" fantasy world upon which the story-book elements have magically intruded? If Duck and Rue weren't raised as human children, how can they be students at the academy? Wouldn't someone have noticed that, y'know, they don't have FAMILIES or PASTS? Maybe I'm not supposed to think about that, but the story makes its placement on the scale of surrealism vs. magical-realism somewhat unclear. I'm a little unsure about the pacing, too; they move from playing the magical girl formula to deconstructing it quickly, which is alright, I guess, except that I feel like the characters haven't really been all that well established outside of their story-book roles. And Mytho is so much like Kaworu (minus Kaworu's sinister streak) that it isn't even funny.
That said, while the last couple episodes have worn the premise a bit thin for me, I'll continue watching to the conclusion just to see how it's developed. I could really go either way this point.
Well, I'm glad to hear your mom's okay. My grandmother went to the emergency room a couple months ago; we all thought for sure she was going to die, but then she pulled through at the last moment.
Really? I was kind of disappointed by the ending to BK. It just seemed to be all over the place. First we're led to believe Melodia is beyond salvation... but then she comes back. Then the islands fall to earth, which you would think would be a major disaster, but no, everyone's partying about it. Then there's the scene between Kalas and Xelha, which is indeed very touching, but kind of sudden, both in terms of their relationship and Xelha's promptly-revealed fate. And then there is her sudden resurrection, which is completely out of nowhere and really throws a curveball into the tone of the ending once again (honestly, that part in particular feels like it was added in at the last minute just to avoid having a bittersweet ending). Personally, I think a better ending would have been: Xelha is gone for real, the party helps Kalas find the strength to move on, and the game ends with him venturing out into the Ocean to meet with the Great Whale and get Xelha back and keep his promise to Fee. Sure, some people would have felt that it was inconclusive, but it would've been a lot better from a storytelling standpoint.
Is there a way in which you can avoid Xelha coming back at the end? If so, it might be kind of like Final Fantasy VI; the "bad" route actually makes for a better story.
oh! im really sorry to hear about that T.T i hope your mother is better? well dont worry about it, really, take all the time you need to reply, we all have lives besides MAL. Its okay to reply only when you can^.^ i wish you mother gets better:)
oh well, many people think that Kagome´s voice is Hidaka´s voice, because they really look alike if we take a look at Akane´s character from Ranma that Hidaka voiced. She really looks like Kagome. Which means she is an amazing outstanding voice actress, because when i found out she was the one voicing Akane i stayed like this 0_0
loool, i agree that Red river had some weird stuff, lol. it was my first manga;D and i never completed it, lol. i intend to, but yes, Nakia was making the story so boring that i left it on hold...for 3 years ;P but i do like Yuri. She can be a bit dramatic sometimes, but still i like her. Kail...he´s okay. he´s just another random prince.
i like Basara´s art a lot. it reminds me a lot of the old art where the characters had bigger eyes, its a beautiful design:D well not that i dislike a bald Shuri, but i hope his hair grow in the end XD Actually i keep wondering how would he look like with very long hair, lol. i bet he would be amazing! i mean in ancient times, men used to have the hair so long as the women , lol.
if u love an outstanding art then you definitely must try Bride of the water god. ok, the story is a bit cliché, the human girl in love with a god, etc. but the art makes me stare and enjoy every detail. the sceneries are so well designed. amazing:D
also just read last chapter of VK. Poor Kaname. it seems he suffered a lot on his past T.T Yuki is seeing his memories. he´s already 10 thousand years old =_=
I suppose I agree that it wouldn't fit to make Kalas irredeemable, but his redemption would make more sense as the climax of the game than to come about when you still have at least a good quarter of it left to play. On the other hand, they could have gone with the idea that revenge can completely consume a person, and that there is a certain moral event horizon beyond which even actions with understandable motivations become unacceptable; but I suppose that wouldn't fit very well with the idealistic undercurrent in most of Kato's games.
Glad you've finally gotten a chance to play RD. I hope you know how to use save states, because chances are you'll need 'em. Let me know what you think once you get into it.
Well, with FFIII the Mogmail system is in-game; you have to speak to a Moogle to initiate it. You also have to have your DS Wi-Fi system set up, which requires connecting to a wireless network, assuming you have one available to you. I'll check tomorrow to try and get the specifics of how it all works, but I'm pretty sure to send Mogmail you have to get someone's Friend Code and input it. Again, I'll check it and get back to you.
