I haven’t seen OPM yet but if the gifs and memes are anything to go by, Trigun reminds me of that sort of comedic style. Characters with a heart of gold, scenes that are over the top, silly, but ridiculously heroic. I agree, right up your alley. It’s interesting you mentioned world building for Gintama, I was only aware that it was a parody on pop culture and not anything more than that. I usually give shows about 3 or 4 episodes to find their groove, but with your advice I’ll give it more time if it needs it. Now just gotta wait til I’m in the right mood!

It feels nice when someone gives you a little care and attention, doesn’t it? I remember the first time someone gave one to me that wasn’t a one-liner or an obvious throw-away. It was weirdly inspiring and a nice sentiment, so now I try to emulate that feeling and do the same for others. Glad to hear it's appreciated! Hopefully I wasn't too off the mark. That thread is probably one of my favorites on here for how insightful it can be.
Ok let’s see, do I have any recs… hm. I’m surprised this one isn’t there (it's a big one). Have you heard of Death Note? I wonder if you would like it, since it takes itself seriously and is a bit more critical, but the philosophical themes I feel you would appreciate. I see Cowboy Bebop, so, how about another ‘90s title, but it’s the desert instead of a space setting - Trigun. There’s guns ablazing, wild west-esq adventures, and who doesn’t love a total badass as a protagonist. Everything about it is just, super fun and crazy. I rec the dub on this one for convenience, but also I’ve never seen the sub for it so I can’t back that up. The english voices are great though, especially the protagonist. This last rec is iffy since I see you lean toward shounen, but I gotta throw in a female lead title + I see you enjoyed Madoka. If you’ll give it a chance, Princess Tutu is a rewarding experience (dark themes, yet whimsical, gentle, a great cast of characters and lots of meta). The dub and sub are equal imo, but I (ever so slightly) prefer the dub. A lot of love went into that project, and I absolutely hope it breaks your heart lol. Hopefully there’s something in these recs that was useful!
Oh wow, I can picture that so vividly. Good to hear it’s not in danger of being dropped. I think the place you stopped is right before the story really kicks into high gear with what it’s best known for (Dark Tournament saga). Togashi’s Heaven’s Arena arc in HxH was super inspired by that season btw :p I’m excited for you to see it!
Now I'm the one with a question. Is Gintama really worth getting into? I miss having a long series to be invested in, and I know it’s supposed to be really funny, but I heard it takes… a long time for it to “get good.” I think someone mentioned around here it takes 100 episodes? Is that true?
