First series that I identified and saw as an anime was 'Slayers' seen on VHS dub tape somewhere around 1997. Took a break till 2001, had another brief stint, and then picked it back up again at the end of 2003. Been my hobby ever since. Been to Anime Boston, Portcon Maine, Otakon, and Anime Detour Minnesota. (Though the Minnesota one was a lucky fluke.) Cos-played characters in "Spice and Wolf," "Scrapped Princess," and "Bleach."
My hobby lead to the start of my teaching career. (Though due to the economy, I'm not teaching at the moment.) I got to teach a course on Japanese Animation to high school students in New Hampshire for part of the 2008-2009 school year. Many of my students watch some of the same anime that I do. Keeps me young at heart. Hehehehe.
Many of my completed series have 'extra' series along side them which I "might" not have bothered to put on there. (These include Ova's and specials and such.) This makes my total number of 'series watched ' lower than it might appear. My list is also incomplete as I've seen pieces of series and not bothered/remembered to place them here.
My rating scale is such:
9-10 - Fantastic works - If you havn't seen these series, I say, "SEE THEM NOW."
8 - Very good stuff - Strong chance of you liking it regardless of genera.
7 - Ok Anime. Might be worth watching, depending upon your own personal tastes. Something about it made it worth watching to the end.
6 - Something of value, but not to everyone. Usually something about it made it worth seeing, but not everyone would agree. Read blurbs about the series before watching.
5 - Bleh. Some series were just 'available' so I finished. Others, forget about it.
4 and lower. DON'T WATCH if you value your eyes.
